Any Johnnies care to defend the schedule? After Pat and Keith took a few shots at it on ATN.

Does anyone remember when the Vikings signed QB Josh Freeman and GM Rick Spielman could be heard whispering in Freeman's ear during the introductory conference call with reporters? I haven't listened to the podcast but for those who have I'm curious if you can hear Glenn in the background?

Shennanigans!

The last 15 years for the most part SJU has scheduled competent non-conference competition from the WIAC and occasionally the IIAC. Very rarely do they schedule anyone from the UMAC or some other trash bag conference outlier. This year they start with Lake Superior Nursing College and the Convent of Aberdeen, who managed to sneak by Trinity Bible College and Finlandia for 2 of their 3 wins last year. *teeth-chattering sound effect

Some quick thoughts:
Pretty wild weekend for the UMAC, lose 98-0 to the Johnnies, Chazz Middlebrook runs for 288 yards, a 350lb lineman returned a blocked kick for a 2 point conversion, and Nicholas Morrow became the first UMAC player to make an NFL 53 man roster when he avoided the final Raiders cuts.

Was sad to hear Fasching was getting some hateful emails.  I haven't read about anyone at Scholastica being angry about what happened.  I don't think it particularly matters if St. John's 5th team is better than Scholastica's 3rd team.  If the score is 77 to 10, the game probably doesn't get half the negative coverage it did.  There's no shortage of blowouts in college football.   South Dakota beat Drake 77-7 and NDSU beat Mississippi Valley 72-7 Saturday.  Maybe the Johnnies could have scheduled Oshkosh next week, but it's hard to avoid blowouts altogether.  The underrated part in this discussion is how good the MIAC and the Johnnies are.

Scholastica will regroup and bring a better test for the Johnnies next year.

I don't know guys. Even Don Roney avoided scheduling UMAC teams (I think Northwestern being on the schedule in 2008 was probably his doing, but still!). Does Don Roney have more guts than Gary Fasching? Starting to look like it.

Not a good sign. I expect Hamline to beat SJU within the next 3 years.

I can probably drop some off on my way home from work. I've found myself defending SJU over the last few days. I need to do some sort of penance.

Don't hold your breath. There's no legitimate rebuttal. Don Roney scheduled Division II Bemidji State, UW-Stout in their top form, St. Norbert's when they were winning conference championships, Coe College, man! What a lineup. Never beat any of them, but still! Don Roney took on all-comers! Fasching schedules UMAC teams and ducks the Titans. Pretty obvious why UST has usurped SJU as the pride of the MIAC.

I'm loathe to challenge somebody that I know possess superior intellect based on a degree from the prestigious University of St Thomas. HOWEVER, what evidence do we have that Fasching ducked playing Oshkosh? I could totally see Oshkosh thinking they've already got 1 tough matchup in their OOC and not wanting to add another.

Today I had a high school football coach give me a little crap about the Johnnies big win. Then he asked how many times we went for two, onside kicked or pulled some other stunt during the. I'm not sure where he was going with that.   ::) :P

That is your act of penance. Go forth and sin no more.
