Perhaps the MIAC coaches should make an agreement to NOT schedule any further games with the UMAC.

SJU-98-     St. Scholastica-0
GAC-38     Westminster- 0
Hamline-51  Crown 0
Augsburg-42 Northwestern 7

MIAC-229- UMAC 7 who gains anything of value out of games like these?

Could any of these UMAC teams beat the MSHSL state champ? I sure hope they could however it's apparent that the UMAC is fairly horrible at football.

Two other UMAC non-conference scores worth noting from last weekend:

Millikin 76, Greenville 3
Cornell 62, Iowa Wesleyan 25

Millikin was picked to finish seventh in the nine-team CCIW.

Cornell was picked to finish fourth in the six-team South Division of the Midwest Conference.

At the risk of getting a piling on penalty thrown against me, I took a few minutes to do a somewhat exaustive investigation into last week's games in the UMAC.

MacMurray beat Rockford of the NACC, 22 to 14, who last year won just one game.

Martin Luther beat Minnesota Morris 14 to 7. (This game apparently is considered a non-confernece game, as they play each other in conferenrce action on October 7th.)

Eureka fell to Knox of the MWC, 21 to 28, who won just two games last year.

Iowa Wesleyan fell to Cornell of the MWC, 25 to 62, who won 5 games last year.

Northwestern lost to Augsburg of the MIAC, 7 to 42, who won 2 games last year.

Greenville lost to Millikin of the CC!W, 3 to 76, who won 4 games last year.

Westminster lost to Gustavus of the MIAC, 0 to 38, who won 5 games last year.

Crown lost to Hamline of the MIAC, 0 to 51, who won 5 games last year.

St. Scholastica lost to St. John's of the MIAC, 0 to 98, who won 10 games last season.

So, we can observe and deduce a few things from the above information. Out of the 8 games the UMAC played out of their conference, half the time, they played teams with .500 or better records last year. In only two of their games were the scores close. And the lone win they recorded this past week, was against a team whose only win last season was against the now defunct team of Maranatha Baptist. The guys at D3 Football definitely have this one picked right as being the weakest of all 28 conferences this year.

@AO

Where do your spreads come from, AO?  They're pretty good.  They make the pick'em a real challenge.
I'm always crunching the numbers in my head.

That and making simple adjustments to the Massey prediction.

The tune playing during that scene in The Hangover was Joker & the Thief by Aussie band Wolfmother.  A pretty crappy band that has been around forever and continually changing members but they got lucky, in my opinion, with one of their albums that had that song and also Woman.  Two catchy tunes.  Everything else: garbage.

A question that hopefully stimulates a little mid-week discussion.

What do you think about Illinois Wesleyan entering the top 25 at #14?  I know they beat #3 UWW, but UWW was obviously over-rated (falling to #15 after the defeat).  I feel UWW has fallen to about the correct position but I think IW is too high.  20 feels better to me.

Also, doesn't UWW have the eerie feeling of our 2004 season where we started at #2, dropped the opening game and steady fell down the standings as we finished up at 7-3?  Painful and frustrating year, that.

Pat Coleman

Well, you're introducing a couple of anomalies there, for sure. You say UWW is in the right spot but don't want IWU to be in front of them. Obviously there were some voters who felt that way, since IWU is only one point ahead of UWW. So that means that either a bunch of voters still had UWW in front or one voter had UWW way in front.

IWU was already generally seen as the third-best team in the CCIW, a quality conference, so they had some credibility with voters even if they weren't on a lot of ballots. It's not like Buffalo State coming somewhat out of the blue to win that game in 2012.

I am in agreement in that I don't think this is the last blow to be delivered to UWW this season.

Based on the comments witnessed via social media, plenty of classy Johnnies wish they had ratcheted the score up to 100+.

The fact that you believe that makes me think even less of you, which I wasn't sure was possible.

Maybe next year SJU can work the scheduling to make it happen. Here's a little help from a disinterested observer: http://www.wheelchairsportsfederation.org/adaptive-sports/football

I know I've been know to go low at time or two but you most assuredly have entered uncharted ground. Maybe tomorrow you could take a shot at cancer patients or burn victims.  ??? ::)

OK, clearly I'm a few hours late to this, but this would be the point where I would ask you to provide evidence to back up this claim.

Mr.MIAC

Please accept my apologies for my last few (deleted) posts. My intent was to tease the Johnnies, not belittle any other group of people.

Deleted my response to your posts as well, Rev.

Johnnies, BTW, are fine with attempts at their belittlement, hackneyed and predictable as those efforts may be.

As Rodney Dangerfield told his professor (played by Sally Kellerman) in Back to School, call me when you have no class.

Well yeah. That's how we define class back home, anyway.
