*cracks open door, pops head in*

Rutter is the best QB SJU will have faced all year, by some margin. NCC over SJU by 13.

*head out, shuts door*

Pera at UST is pretty good. Would be surprised if your guy is that much better. Likely he hasn't seen a defense as strong as SJU.

Hmmmm. I wonder if that is true. Let's take a peek:
Bumping this to add Erdmann's stats

Broc Rutter
181-280, 65%,  2,571 yds, 5 Int, 19 TD's, 160.6 Efficiency

Jackson Erdmann
118-187, 63%, 1,732 yds, 4 Ints, 24 TD's, 179 Efficiency

Jacques Perra
154-264, 58%, 2,340 yds, 5 Ints, 19 TD's, 152.75 Efficiency

I also looked at the performance vs the top two teams in each league (Perra vs St Johns-#2 ranked defense and Concordia-#22 ranked defense and Rutter vs Wheaton-#8 ranked defense and IWU-#23 ranked defense). Given the fact these are 2 of the top 5 conferences in the country and all these teams are similarly ranked in the top 25 as well as on defense it seems decent as a comparison (admitting a small data set)

Perra vs STJU/CM
23-47, 49% 1 Int, 3 TD's, 175 ypg

Rutter vs Wh/IWU
49-82, 60%, 2 Int, 2 TD's, 261 ypg

Erdmann vs StT/CM
24-47, 51%, 2 Int, 3 TD's, 175 ypg

St John's defense is ranked #2 so it's absolutely true Rutter and NCC have not faced a better defense, statistically speaking, I think both teams are battle tested against top 10 quality competition and Broc Rutter has played very consistently in big games.

Pleasantly annoying.   :)

Thanks. I prefer "inexplicably endearing."

I try to steer away from those who make it a point to flaunt their advanced degrees. It's as if I won't think you're intelligent, so you have to wear it as a badge. That, along with your feeble attempts at humor reinforce that perception. I bet you laugh at your own jokes, such as they are, too.

D O.C.

Like sjusection105 said LINFIELD met Gagliardi's teams in 2002 in McMinnville and in Collegeville in 2003.                                  People met and laughed.

What do you know of my advanced degrees? Something tells me you hear the word "douche" often.

Touchdown Tommy

Hi guys.  First time, long time.

-looks like the Tommie posters have taken on the personality of their blowhard coach (notable exception my friend Benchwarmer) I went over there a few weeks ago to see them play Bethel.  Pathetic crowd & I left wholly unimpressed by both squads.  UST was undisclipined, Perra continues to force the ball into bad spots/INTs, & allowed several big special teams plays.  I got a kick outta the PA announcer trying to get the crowd hyped up before the game when there couldn't have been more than 1000 in the stands with over 50% Bethel fans (in a terrible season, no less).  Caruso can try to manufacture tradition, passion, and reverence for UST football(a video board, replays, loud obnoxious PA announcer, D1 caliber lockers) but it won't work unless it's organic.

-105 hit the nail on the head.  There is lots of mutual respect built up over many years between SJU and Mount Union/Linfield.  There's Dennis from LA, Wildcat11, Gig Harbor Cat, Joe Smith's dad, even Bluenote whom we've engaged in many great weeks of trash talk and thereafter mutual respect.  You Tommie clowns could learn something here.

-flights were $79~ round trip to Ohare on a Saturday so there should be a good crew of us flying down.  If there are any North Central guys lurking here, what's the best breakfast spot? Egg Harbor or Eggs Inc downtown?  What about bars near the stadium?  Jackson Ave looks promising.  Any others you guys would recommend?

Chasing MILFs since '82...

I think the QB's are just one small part of the SJU/NCC game puzzle.  From the looks of the stats and relative team strengths I think this will be a game of contrasting strategies.

NCC looks to be a team that tries to run away from the competition.  I mean they try to run a high score that the opposition cannot keep pace with.  Scoreboard control comes first, defense comes second (in strategic priority).

The Johnnies, on the other hand, use a strong defense to strangle a side and let the O score for the win.  Defense comes first and the O grinds over the top (strategically).  The Johnnies have played this way a long, long time with some notable exceptions in the early 90's and early 00's when Air Johnnie (tm) was all the rage.

So, I expect the Johnnie O to put up points in the 20's against the NCC defense.  The question will be can the NCC offense score more on the Johnnies than the Tommie offense did.

Here's an open invite. We do a somewhat regular happy hour in DC that's open to MIAC folks. It's mostly Tommies, but we have compatriots from Macalester, Carleton, Gustavus, and Hamline that join. With the playoffs upon us, all are welcome. Just send me a PM for details.

You come across as so pleasant online, but I don't think there is enough beer in DC too make you tolerable in person.

I come across as pleasant online?

While Rev's online persona is almost as grating as some of the Linfield contingent, I can confirm that he, like they are (I can only assume), is actually a swell human being in person. He joined our tailgate last year in Collegeville and didn't even get into any fights with the kind St John's folks around us. He brought good beer and entertaining stories.

Hey!  Look who's out on parole!  It's good to have you drop by, TDT.

If it isn't TDT!  Glad to see you're alive & kicking.   8-)

Fake News: It's been a while.... the board has picked up week 1 of the playoffs.
Erdmann vs. St. Thomas        (10-22-127,45% 2 TDs, 0 Int) Also, - SJU Team Rushed for 1 Yd.
Erdmann vs. CON                  (14-25-150, 56% 1 TDs, 2 Int)
Erdmann Vs St. Thomas/CON (24-47-277, 51% 3 TDs, 2 Int) 138.5 YPG Avg.

So do we give Erdmann's poor performance against UST a pass because of their complete inability to establish the run and free up the passing game?

jamtod

Since I've got a half-day tomorrow, I started rewatching the St Thomas vs Linfield 2015 game based on the promptings of this board. That o-line and rushing game with Roberts and Waldvogel was a thing of beauty.

Mr.MIAC

I heard Erdmann actually wanted to go to UST, but it didn't work out for various reasons. I'm sure everything will still work out well for him in life.
