For those of us without a horse in the race, a couple of notes concerning "what ifs".

If St. Thomas wins, and UMHB wins - the Tommies travel to Texas.
If St. Thomas wins and Linfield wins - looks like the the Tommies host.

Here's where it gets kind of interesting, at least for me.

If Del Val wins, they host next week
If Husson wins, they still travel (most likely).
Both Brockport and Wesley would travel to Del Val, regardless who wins that game.

If Wesley wins out that bracket, they travel to St. Paul.
If Del Val or Brockport wins, looks like the Tommies travel.

For the Tommies to have more home games Linfield has to beat UMHB and Wesley has to beat Brockport and Delaware Valley.

FWIW - Linfield looked really good to me this past Saturday. Can they beat the Crusaders? Yeah, they could. Others will use statistics to show probabilities, but in my mind, this game is too close to call.

And in the Del Val bracket there appears to be a lot of parity there as well. I'll throw a dart and say that Brockport would be a great game against the Tommies.

It's been a great playoff bracket so far.

Thanks for throwing these scenarios out there art. I think I agree across the board, even with us heading to Brockport if that's how it shook out. So I guess I cheer hard for Wesley and Linfield this week so I have the chance at going to a couple more home games.

SUMMIT!!!!!

Amazing how a week ago, so many were jumping on PJ's boar, hailing him as the greatest coach to ever walk a sideline in MN....after a record worst loss to NWern, I doubt anyone wants to get near his leaky boat. I've been saying since he was hired Fleck is Brewster with  more success on his resume but equally inept for the job. I give hi m 3 more seasons before he's run out of town.
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

The ballsy Frostburg State fake punt won Play of the Week this week. Well deserved, even though I went full homer and voted for Loeffler.

I think a Brewster comparison is slightly unfair. And, I didn't hear anyone jumping too high on the Gopher bandwagon last week. I heard far more local commentary on just how far the Huskers had fallen.

Fleck is a proven winner as a Head Coach. He took a perennial bottom feeder in the MAC and built a legitimate power that could compete with upper half power five schools. Whether that MAC success translates to the B1G is yet to be determined, but I think it would be best to give it a few years.

Disagree, big time. Coaching changes bring a ton of attrition, and that first year is always difficult, unless you're a perennial power. I wouldn't look into the Northwestern loss too much, especially considering the Nebraska win two weekends ago. College kids, especially in the instant-gratification world of today, need to be coached on process more than anything. Overhauling a culture is a three-year job, and you can get your ass handed to you in the Big 10 by anybody if you're not careful, ask Ohio State what happened in Iowa after knocking off #2 Penn State. Also, Northwestern is pretty damn good, they're 8-3.

This was a case of kids believing their own hype after rolling the Cornhuskers. To compare Fleck to Brewster is massively unfair.  He took Western Michigan from the worst team in college football to a 13-1 record and the Cotton Bowl where they were competitive with Wisconsin in the span of three years. Brewster was a snake oil salesman who could somewhat recruit, but when it came to the administration of an entire program, he was clueless. Fleck actually knows what he's talking about and has actually learned from some of the best in the profession. Aspects of their personalities might be the same with the cliches and what seems to be faux-energy, but Fleck's knowledge on how to build a program is pretty undeniable.

Come down off of the ledge, it was one game. Fleck has made no bones that there will be some significant growing pains this year, and that this would be a three-year culture overhaul.

Believe me when I say this, I am no Gopher fan, but I think they'll be in the conversation with the Badgers and Hawkeyes every now and then to represent the Big 10 West in the Big 10 championship, if Fleck sticks around. But I think the ceiling for the Gophers is where Mason had them a decade ago, and where Kill was able to build them up to. Had Claeys kept that job the Gophers would have regressed back to a 5 -6 win team. The most reasonable expectation for the Gophers is probably a 9, 10 win season at best. Minneapolis is not a college sports town. There's a reason NDSU is beating out the U of M in some instances for recruiting. You go just about anywhere in the Big 10, Big 12, South Bend, hell, even Fargo, and those kids know they're the only game in town. There is no spotlight to share. The residents of Columbus, Ohio aren't skipping a Buckeyes game because they have Blue Jackets tickets that night.

Rant over. Is Berry College in Hazzard County? If so, will they be taking a bus painted like the General Lee? Will Boss Hog be in attendance? Will DAISY DUKE be in attendance? Will the Berry fans bring any moonshine? Other mean stereotypes about Georgia.

I kid, was in Savannah, St. Simons and Tybee Island, in September for my anniversary. Georgia is awesome.

Two quick questions-

Looks like most (ETBU & UWL being the exceptions) of the candidate's are playoff qualifiers. Is team success a factor or something under consideration for the Gagliardi?

Is travel covered for the finalists? Or is that something that is on the individuals or schools?

Looks like a fantastic group of individuals!

Pat Coleman

Travel is covered for the finalists.

I'm not sure what all the factors are which the J-Club considers when trimming down the nominees to 10 semifinalists.

The Berry alum that I know did ship me some homemade mead a few months back, along with several craft brews from the local area. If there is moonshine involved in any transactions, it's more likely to be coming from my direction down to Georgia. Allegedly.

Pat, I noticed that John Smith (Husson) was the only semi-finalist with no mention of off-field activities.  I assume that was just an oversight by the writer of the mini-bios?

So what's your problem?
Its just a vary wel writen marketing messege.

I received this message in an email today and actually know a student that was admitted to the college this fall. Of the criteria listed for potential students he demonstrates all but 5 of the 6.

It's been damn near 60 years since the Gophers won a Rose Bowl. The mentality of getting to the Jiffy Lube Bowl vs the 4th place MAC team as having a successful season will not be turned around in one year.

The Gophers B- Ball hasn't made any noise in the Big Dance yet, but remember how Little Ricky's tenure started? It takes a couple years to get his recruits in to the program and contributing. Rome was not built in a day, that's why there are usually 5 year contracts with new coaching staffs.

I will agree with Bench, having 6 major league pro sports in town is a challenge for the Gopher marketing department. Is Fleck a bit over the top? Hell yes, but ask yourself what a 18-23 year old connects with;Fleck's personality or Clayes' personality?
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I agree. Here are a few tweaks, though:

By now you've probably heard about St. Thomas' new Dougherty Family College. If not, here is a quick snapshot of who we are. Dougherty Family College it is a selective, two-year program offering an associate of arts degree in liberal arts. The program is designed for students who:

1. Demonstrate a high level of financial need
2. Want to proceed directly into a bachelor's degree program upon graduation
3. Demonstrate the personal maturity and readiness for higher education
4. Demonstrate the perseverance, resilience and commitment needed to achieve educational goals
5. Have not had ready access to academic, economic, social or other support resources that facilitate academic success
6. Will not require remedial coursework to succeed
7. Have been accepted to St. Johns up in Collegeville, but seek a better chance at success
