My son played hockey with Terrin at the Bantam level. Terrin's mom was my kid's phy ed teacher in elementary school. His dad was the Twins hitting/3rd base/bench coach for many years and now with the Tigers and Gardenhire again. Terrin's 2 brothers are very good baseball players as well.
These people are the kind you love to see succeed.

We went back last night to see the Gophers beat UCLA and by chance, we sat in the row behind Vavra's family as well as the pitcher Meyer's family. Vavra is impressive, he stands out to me as a very good athlete but the Gophers have a bunch of good players. It was a nice win last night. Vavra's mom was there, fun to watch the parents of all these players when it goes to extra innings!

Reusse wrote an article on the Vavra family yesterday. http://www.startribune.com/joe-vavra-monitors-from-detroit-as-son-terrin-becomes-gophers-all-america/484297341/

Thank you for the link! I can imagine Lesa's excitement. And on another MIACPP connection, a couple years ago Joe Vavra spent the American winter coaching in the Australian baseball league for OzJohnnie's hometown team. I sent a local newspaper article to Oz about it and he took a couple of his girls to a game.

I was hoping Oz could talk to Joe for a minute but they didn't connect. My wife talked to Lesa about it a few days later and she wished they had and that Joe would have appreciated it.

This guy Oz, he's everywhere.  8-)

At the risk of sounding uninformed, which I am, who is Terrin Vavra? I'm trying to follow these last posts but I'm lost. Of course, I'm old, get mixed up and forget things. Just curious. I don't really need to know, but the boards are slow so would like to understand what's happening.
As far as Roseanne being fired and the show cancelled, well, ...........................!  ☠🏈🍺😜

Never mind MUC57. And remember, it's 1 part vodka and 3 parts Ensure. Not the other way around.

I'm pretty sure it's 3 parts vodka and 1 part ensure. How about a good single malt Scotch whisky?
I think you're taking advantage of me because I'm old! Well, all I have to say is, "Oh yeah"
And the same to you, fella!
BDB, just a little D3 humor. You're still one of the good guys.
Terrin Vavra? ☠🏈🍺😜

I'm starting to feel it. Caps in 6.

I was able to watch about half of yesterday's game.  The Caps had the jump on them the whole time I was watching.  They were consistently half a step ahead.

Unless the Golden Knights get a new manly name (what are they, Lannisters?) or the Caps go massively off the boil then I reckon this result is all but in the bank.

(I mean, really.  Golden Knights?  That's almost as bad as Thunderhawks.  An amalgamation of semi-hard sounding words most likely to avoid offense for 25 years and escape re-branding costs on all the merchandise.)

An interesting and short video (7 minutes) on the different influences skill and luck have on sport.  There are a lot of interesting factors that determine the skill/luck continuum like the rules, player availability, specialty physical attributes, and the difference in ability between the best and worst players in a league.

The owner of the Golden Knights wanted the "Black Knights" . He is a West Point grad and wanted the same team name, but because it was a rip off of West Point's team name, the league would not allow it. He adopted the same colors as West Point as well.

Well, I did not know that.  Still don't like the name though.

I'm surprised the league kicked up a stink.  I would have expected West Point to protest copyright infringement.

Mrs Oz is watching some crazed show about a woman that had a tumour in her face.  It's a very graphic show and as I'm sitting here barely paying attention and browsing the web I notice they literally peel the woman's face back, slice out the tumour (and one eye), and then sew her face back down.

It's unbelievable what modern medicine can do. And I've just seen one job that I'm very glad I'm a million miles away from. I feel no (and never have felt) motivation to be a surgeon.

(Although the recovery vid they are showing now is amazing. Other than missing an eye (which is just sewn shut) she looks remarkable. A surgeon could have some very rewarding moments if you were so inclined to dedicate your life.)

Yeah, I'm sorry I wasn't able to grab him after the game. I enjoy saying hello to people no matter how remote the connection.

Terrin Vavra is the Rockstar, All-American shortstop for the University of Minnesota Baseball team that just won their NCAA regional and are now headed to super-regionals.
