Robert Zimmerman

Tomorrow it is Carleton and Macalester.

Must be pretty sharp if he can get into those two schools. Not sure about the tye-dye, but if so, he might as well add sandals to the days attire.

He is pretty sharp, just like his mother.  We just visited, so who knows if he would get in to either?  My wife's tuition exchange does not include Carleton or Macalester, so that might be a major deterrent.  We did see some tie-dye shirts at both!  At Macalester, the tour guide proclaimed that varsity sports play at the d3 level and all varsity sports compete in the MIAC.  Because nobody likes "that guy," I didn't correct him on Macalester football.

We don't consider their football program to be varsity level so why should they?

Well you do have something in common with Mac.  Maria Zimmerman (Bob Dylan's daughter) went to Macalester back in the 80's  ;D

A very Early prediction of the 2018 MIAC Final Football Standings

SJU 10-0 – 8-0            New O will open it up and this could be Johnnies quickest D in a very long time
St Thomas 9-1 – 7-1    Typical Tommy Season until Oct 13th that is.
Bethel – 8-2 - 6-2        Royals will be in Playoff hunt and their two MIAC losses won't be an automatic death blow
Concordia – 7-3 – 5-3  Another solid season, just too much talent at the top of the heap.
Augsburg – 6-4  -4-4   Getting closer to challenging week in week out
Gustavus – 4-6 - 3-5   Gusties still trying to keep pace but its getting harder
St Olaf – 3-7  - 2-6      Improvement is realized just not in the win column
Hamline – 3-7 –1-7     Well at least they have Carleton to insulate them from the cellar
Carleton – 0-10 – 0-8  Four wins in Four seasons? It does not turn for them in 2018.

Over the weekend I received the annual letter from BU about this year's upcoming football team. My take-away from it is this, things changed from last season to this season. And I'm not just talking about the roster. I don't have the letter in front of me, but it seems that three straight 5 and 5 seasons is not setting well. So maybe you are on to something Ratbacker. If, and that's a big if right now in my eyes, Bethel can win its two non-conference games handily, then they stand a chance at 8 and 2 or 9 and 1. I think the schedule is against the Johnnies this year. They play at Bethel and the very next week host the Tommies. That's a tough two weeks.

So you're saying that SJ2 will likely be 4-2 after W6. Sounds about right...

So you're assuming they get by Stout, 3-3?

A feat that the Tommies failed at in 2017.

I'm leaning towards SJ2 being at 3-3, but that sort of sacrilegious talk encourages them to go all in on the Johnnie Smokefest. Nobody around here wants that to happen.

Ugh! And it may have cost them a trip to Salem.

Just stirring the pot a bit. SJ2 has about a 0.0001% chance of losing a game before they meet the Tommies. Even as loaded as UST is this year, SJ2 will be more than capable of winning that game if they are provided an opening of any sort. It's going to be fun year!

I'd like to see the Johnnies run the table aside from a couple of losses to the St Thomases. I'm glad I'm not a lawyer, but Thomas More (Saint edition, not university) is a pretty swell dude.

Pat and Keith, thanx for another fine podcast. I especially liked the tip of the hat to Coach Mike Drass at the very end.

Great, now we have this to look forward to in about two MIAC seasons.

As if the utterly unpredictable targetting calls in the last couple MIAC seasons weren't enough.

I love football but frankly I'm relieved my grandson is on the small side, didn't enjoy playing, and has given up the sport.
