Not my first perch, my favorite are fish caught through the ice. The cold water probably makes the meat firm. That was my first Lake Erie perch and it was excellent. I agree with you; it would be very hard to find something better. This may stir the pot here in Minnesota but I prefer perch over walleye.

Thanks to you for the conversation!

We were up at the family cabin over the long weekend and caught some Trout up in Michigan. I think they are the easiest cooking/grilling and eating fish in the world.

Pardon me while I drool over the thought of your trout cooked over a grill.. Love it! Have you ever had Lake Erie perch? Tastes very much like walleye, just smaller and, usually, no bones.
I have baskets for grilling fish on the grill so it doesn't stick. I'm on my own now so don't do as much grilling as I used to. The lady I lived with for 24 years died one year ago tomorrow. Certainly changes the way you eat! And live your life.
But thanks for the story. I can live vicariously through you guys.
Best to all our teams in the upcoming season. ☠🏈🐡🍺

Heading to "Lake of the Woods" next week in pursuit of the wiley walleye! Hoping for several shore lunches! and a few for the freezer to boot! "Lake Michigan" perch the following week while in Green Bay. With the wedding behind me, summer has arrived for the MiacMan!

Are Lake Michigan perch the same as Lake Erie perch? Probably. Where is Lake of the Woods? Let me know and I'll find it on a map. Will think of you having a great time while I sit in Alliance watching the grass grow. Go get 'em. And a few Milwaukee's Best to go with the fish. Excuse me now while I wipe the drool off of my face. Enjoy! 🐡🐡🐡🐡🍺🍺🍺🍺

Hey MUC, Thanks!

I'll have several cases of the "Best" iced down for the trip! Fishing is like grilling to me, I can't do it without a beer in one hand. "Lake of the Woods" is the largest lake in Minnesota (not counting Superior) it is located at the furthest northwest corner of the state (part of the lake is considered Canadian waters)

Thanks big guy! Have a great trip. I'll have a few cold ones for you while you're gone. Hell, I'll even have a few cold ones for you when you come back. As we say in Romanian - Noroc (cheers)! 🐡🐡🍺🍺😄

MUC57 - Yes, I have had Lake Erie Perch and smoked Whitefish. I "grew up" just East of Erie, PA North of Jamestown, NY. Came to play football at Bethel in 79 and have been in MN ever since. Headed back to the old stomping grounds at the end of the month. I'll wave as I pass by your place.  :D

Thanks. Gave you a +k because you're one if the good guys on these boards. Know the area where you grew up, a little. Have been to Pymatuming Deer Park a few times. Neat place. Give a toot on the horn as you pass through the Buckeye State. Well, not the whole state, but north of Alliance, where ever that is!  Travel safe. 😄🍺🚐

Just spent 5 days up on Vermilion, only had a line in the water for maybe 2 hours the whole week.  Probably a combination of the weather being too nice to stay on the boat instead of in the water and the fact we had enough walleye in the freezer for the fish fry before the week began.

Must have played with Jimmy Miller. He is such a nice guy! I'm sure he was good team mate.

Wow, AO.  What a sunset.  It's the things like that which make me homesick.

I don't think you're talking about Vermilion, Ohio, on the shores of Lake Erie. Where is it? In any case, sounds like you had a great time. Color me envious. Lots of walleye, huh? You could have called. I had nothing planned. Oh well, keep me in mind for next time.
Good luck to all our teams in the fall. ☠🏈🐡🍺
