Are Lake Erie perch a different species than the perch we used to catch in the sloughs of the Mississippi? I remember them as tasting much like Bluegill and sunfish.

Have never eaten bluegill or sunfish. I just know Lake Erie perch is a very mild white fish. I think it's the best. Ocean perch is different and can, have a fishy taste.
Come thru Alliance sometime, pick me up and we'll go to Brennan's in Grand River, on the shores of Lake Erie. Best perch around. Dutch treat, of course. OK, I'll buy the cold ones. 🐡🍺

Oh. There are white perch, which nobody eats and yellow perch, which is the good one. Small fish but oh so good. Similar taste to walleye. Hope that helps! 🐡

Both are yellow perch, same species. The Lake Erie perch are probably coming out of cooler water and the fish's diet also has an effect on the flavor. I think the perch in Erie might eat more insects that the fish you caught in the Mississippi. Not sure.

I prefer the flavor of perch over bluegill and walleye. The entire state of Wisconsin is aware of perch as they used to flock to Winni to harvest their 100 perch per day. Maybe they still do but I think the limit has been reduced.

I extend to you the same offer I made to retagent (see above). Let's go for Lake Erie perch. We could have a few cold ones and swap stories about our teams. Easy for me to say, now that I'm on my own.

I'm not BDB but I can tell you that perch are lumped in with other pan fish like bluegill, sunfish, crappie, etc. and the daily limit is 25 total.  It might be different for the great lakes I'm not certain.  Personally I'm catch and release.  I love catching fish but I don't much care to clean and/or cook them.

Caught a really nice 5 1/2 lb largemouth Sunday and my fishing partner caught a nice 3 1/2 lb one.  Both on an 8" purple rubber worm.  We only caught 5 fish in about 3 hours but those two made the time worthwhile.

I'm about 90% certain that I'll be buying a new boat this weekend.  17' Crestliner w/75 HP Merc outboard.  Assuming the test drive is satisfactory that is. We've been looking for months and finally found what we wanted, a combination ski/fish boat that seats at least 6.

A great offer thank you!  Who knows when I will be back but you really never know.  :)

Everyone seems to be fishermen. I'm too hyperactive to sit still long enough. Does anyone play golf? We could talk Titleist ProV1 vs Callaway Chrome Soft. Vokey vs Cleveland.
Just a thought. Since I'm old, it doesn't seem to matter much. Wait! If I'm old, shouldn't I be into fishing? I like chess.  Love to play Bridge. Maybe I'll just ship myself off to "the home". Could play checkers with the other inmates, er, patients, er, residents.
Oh well, keep up the fish stories. Love that Lake Erie perch. 😀🐡🍺

MUC57 - Thanks for the offer. I am an avid golfer (4-5 times/week) If I remember (too lazy to go back and check) you posted something about living in Cali. Do you winter there? If so, where? I head out to the desert for a couple weeks every winter. That would be more doable since I don't get east much since I moved to Cheeseland.

I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for 16 years. Don't winter there, though. Would love to. Haven't played much golf lately. Kinda lost interest since my lady died last July.
I used to shoot in the low 70's. If it got any 🍺hotter than that, I wouldn't play. My handicap? Every club in the bag. Shot 68 once. Did a little better on the back nine. I know these are old but still workable.
Best to you on your golf! Hit one for me. May all your drives go long and hit the fairway and all your putts drop. What could be better?
I just remembered the last time I played. Damn windmill did me in along with the clown's mouth.
Great talking to you. ⛳️🏌

Ah, my friend. We have to go get a few Milwaukee's Best sometime. How about some Lake Erie perch too? Loved what you said - the good ones never get old (same goes for the jokes)!
Getting closer to football season. May all of our teams play well and win lots of games. ☠🏈🍺🐡

Yes, I would go have a few cold ones with you - along with Lake Erie perch, even though your team broke my heart more than once!
We all know the Mark Twain quote, thank you. True about the witnesses. That's why I like to play alone. I have shot some really incredible scores. Darn, no one was around to see them. PGA Tour quality stuff. Only I will know the real story.
Good luck to The Warhawks this season. Would love to see them get back as they were a few years ago. ☠🏈🍻

Make that "the entire state of Wisconsin" minus BDB. If it ain't Friday during Lent then I'm no expert. And then it comes down to whether the McDonald's or the Burger King drive thru is more on the way for a couple fish sammy's.  ;)
