Jackson Erdmann was nominated as the MIAC's most offensive player of the week for his performance on the weekend.

He completed a career-high 22 passes, which spread to seven different receivers, on 26 attempts for 264 yards and three touchdowns in the win...

He currently leads NCAA Division III in pass-efficiency rating (225.3) and is second in both completion percentage (.744) and yards per pass attempt (11.7), 14th in passing touchdowns (13) and 19th in yards per completion (15.8). His 225.3 pass-efficiency rating is third in all of college football, behind Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa (238.3) and Oklahoma's Kyler Murray (231.0).

Here are a few highlights form the UST/Cobber game on Saturday: http://www.wday.com/sports/football/4506400-early-miscues-help-st-thomas-rout-concordia-46-7

I know the Cobbers would like to tell themselves they just dug themselves a hole with those three early turnovers, but after reviewing the clip above UST generated those turnovers. It wasn't like it was a bad quarterback-center exchange, a bad throw, or anything like that. Dowdle, Mitchell, and Danhauer made amazing plays.

I think it's time for CC to move on from the triple option. They have the athletes to play with anyone and they are a top 20 team. I think they've reached a point where the offense is holding them back. Especially when they are playing from behind against good teams.

The triple option was adopted by the region as whole because it's all NDSU ran in 70s, 80s and 90s. Many of the HS coaches in the region are former NDSU players from that era (the most notably, former NDSU great Kevin Feeney). Guys like Kevin Feeney took the triple option to Shanley, then Fargo South and (I'm assuming) Moorhead HS. I think was easy for the Cobbers to stick with that offense because much of their recruiting base ran it at some point in HS.

However, most high schools in the area have moved on and are running the read option out of the spread with athletic quarterbacks. Some of the bigger high schools don't need to get that cute because they have the beef to move people around and run a basic pro style offense.

This lack of innovation at the HS level was why a guy like Griffin Neal was able to fall through the cracks and end up a Concordia (of course there was also a guy named Carson Wentz playing at Bismarck Century that all the coaches in the area coveted). It's just too bad Concordia didn't realize that sometimes, when you have once-in-a-generation-talent like Zylstra and Neal, you need to build your offense around them, not the other way around.

When you said Jackson Erdmann was the MIAC's "most offensive player" , what exactly did you mean?

Offensive Player of The Week.  I was just being offensive myself.

Ours has run several times the past two weeks.  Three days earlier it had hit 90!

Well you were right. EC couldn't get it done. I  didn't realize it so lopsided last year. It appears that it was  a very good game though. Pretty evenly matched?  Were you there? Thoughts? EC needs a QB. I forgot to mention that. They do have a nice RB though.

Was Concordia running the same offense prior to Horan?  He took over while I was at SJU, but I can't remember them running anything different.  It was always a headache to prepare for because 1) it was unlike anything you saw/would see in any other MIAC game, and 2) it's tough for a scout team to emulate how well the Cobbs run it.

Prior to Horan, Jim Christopherson ran mainly out of "Pro" sets I-Pro and Split-Backs in most cases (and still is) they always felt like they could just line-up and run the ball down your throat. It was much more conducive to throwing though than the Wing-T stuff they run today.

Thanks.  I remember Christopherson, but I didn't remember his offensive scheme.  Looks like he retired after the 2000 season, which was my sophomore season.  I was dabbling at guard for the 2nd half of that season, so I didn't really have much reason to pay attention to their offense.  In 2001 and 2002, I was back on the "good side" of the ball, and I remember some tough hitting games with them.  I also remember playing them in the Fargodome in 2001--it was terrible.

Sure, I was there. Eau Claire is much improved. Massive offensive line and I thought their QB was their best player when he ran the ball.

Game was closer than it should have been though. I agree with the head coach that the Devils didn't play very well. EC's first touchdown came after a Stout pass interference penalty on a 4th and 19, and the pass was no where near the receiver. Just a dumb penalty. That type of thing seemed to weave through the game for the BlueDevils.

Anyway, we refer to the Eau Claire - River Falls - Stout games as the WIAC "Backyard."  And to win those is usually a dog fight. So it was a good win regardless.

Yeah, their O-line was huge! Spot on assessment of the QB, I should have stated that their passing game wasn't very good. Not sure what to think of RF now. I expected them to put up more resistance to UWO than they did. Thanks for the sconi update. May the Spotted Cow someday flow to Minne!

It's a beer that is only available to be purchased in WI, from New Glarus brewing.

Highly over-rated, IMO.  Not bad, I just don't find it to be notably special, or different from other craft ale.

I like their Moon Man variety quite a bit more.
