This is the best I could find about 1986, but no mention of the train incident:

Quote1986

In Dienhart's last year as head coach his team stormed to a 56-21 win in Collegeville. With the game in hand, the coach backed off in the final quarter instead of pushing for more points. His defensive assistant Jerry Miller would have loved one more score. A decade later Miller was diagnosed with cancer, which would eventually take his life. "We all went out to see him in his last days," Dienhart later told a St. Cloud reporter, "As I went to leave, Jerry called me back and told me: `I'll never forgive you for not scoring 60 on Gagliardi when we had the chance.' "

How many UST(d) grads does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Two. One to do the job, and another to stand beside him and tell you how it's basically an ivy league-quality job.
High sticking, tripping, slashing, spearing, charging, hooking, fighting, unsportsmanlike conduct, interference, roughing... everything else is just figure skating.  ~Author Unknown

What is the difference between a Tommie fan and a puppy?

Eventually, the puppy will quit whining!

Are we talking about the 2 students who decided to sleep on the tracks and were hit? That was an awful tragedy.

Tommie: "What does IDK mean?"

Auggie: "I don't know."

Tommie: "OMG, nobody does!"

As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

What makes you think I didn't order the Audible version? My 8 year old doesn't have enough time to read me a whole book. She's busy reading these comments to me and helping me type out snarky replies.

We were really glad to be able to post Frank Rajkowski's memories of John Gagliardi for this morning.

I think it's fitting that ROR has the photo credit on that one.

Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

Another John story:

In 2001, we played Concordia in the Fargo Dome.  Now, this was before everyone had the new-style turf, and the astroturf up there was brutal--akin to playing on 80-grit sandpaper.

The day after the game, I was manning my post at the Great Hall info desk (my on-campus job).  I'm not sure why, but John came strolling through the Great Hall, and of course, came over to strike up a conversation with me.  Of the several things that John despised, injury was near the top of the list, and the Fargo Dome turf had left many of us with brutal turf rash.  John asked me about it, and I showed him some of the fresh scrapes on my arms.  He winced and asked how long I'd be working.  I told him I'd be there for a few more hours, so he said, "OK, well Peggy (his wife, if anyone didn't know) will bring up some ointment that works great.  Call all the guys and tell them to come get some."

So, and hour or two later, Peggy came in with a bag full of some miracle ointment (it honestly worked amazingly well), and I called the entire travel roster to tell them that Peggy had left ointment for their turf burns at the info desk, if they wanted it.  ;D
