Random thought:  Will SJU ever update their scoreboard?

Not saying I disagree with the need for an upgrade, but what would be a satisfactory upgrade in your opinion? What elements are must-have? Video board?

I don't know, exactly.  10-15 years ago, I would have said a video board was insane at the D3 level, but they're popping up everywhere now.  Not saying SJU needs that, but an update is long overdue.  I don't even know what kind of options are out there--maybe I should peruse the Daktronics website.  ;D

A tradition unrivaled...

I wished John a happy birthday and forgot to wish you one as well. So, Happy Birthday to the other 57. Let's have many more just to pi$$ people off. Best to ya. I'm having a drink right now in your honor. OK, I was going to have one anyway but this is dedicated to you.
Sorry I forgot. My signature explains it. Just for punishment, I hope Mount only beats Muskingum by 45 points. My version of self-flagalation.
Happy Birthday ❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️ 🍺 😃

Video board is just about a necessity at this point.  I think any upgrade that doesn't incorporate one would be a wasted opportunity. My bet is that at least 90% of D3 schools will have video boards in the next decade.

The current scoreboard at Clemens Stadium was installed just before the 2003 season.  I remember watching my first Johnnie game in 2002 when Blake Elliott torched St. Thomas and they still had the old scoreboard--the one from 1970.

Happy Heavenly birthday, John & wishing you many more good ones down here, 57! When St John's announced their "Forward Ever Forward" campaign & announced the athletic facilities improvements I inquired about the scoreboard in Clemens. Can't believe it wasn't included! It's the one glaringly obvious improvement left to be made!

Daktronics' website is pretty user friendly. You can filter by type of display installed, sport, level of play, year of installation, NCAA Division, etc.  I just randomly pulled up this one from Chadron State (D2, out in western Nebraska).  I'm guessing this or what Concordia put in is going to be what you're looking for.

Heck, even Macalester has a video board, and they ran out of the MIAC like scared mice.

I think they changed the numbers by hand when I was a student  :)
Of course, we probably didn't have over 500 attendance and almost all students. You could sit anywhere you wanted. I don't remember if they even charged non-students.
Everything changed after 1963.

Mount Union got a new vid📟 eo scoreboard last year. It's great for live action, special messages and especially for re-plays. Really adds to the overall atmosphere on game day. St. John's should have one since they are a top program. I guess all it takes is money and some cooperation from the administration. Good luck.
I have an idea. Let's meet in the playoffs, in Alliance, and you can see ours. 😃

Today would have been John Gagliardi's 92nd BD.

                   Happy Birthday Coach

My birthday too so I will repeat a story I've posted before.
When I was little I thought all good Catholics had to go to church today because it was my birthday. Later on in life I realized we all had to go to church because it was John's birthday.   :D

Awesome 57! +K to you! Happy Birthday! Two good men born on this day!

Make that at least three - my dad would have turned 100 today!  Alas, he made it to "only" 93.

Happy birthday, 57.  This makes it about 83, right?

Call me an old fart, but I like the old board.  I say keep it and instead build an iphone/android app that will give access to replays over a local wifi network.  Perhaps the radio feed as well so people at the ground can have one ear listening to VOJ as they watch the game.

Keep the old analogue world where the people live as it adds a certain charm that suits St John's and Clemens Stadium.  But let the digital technology revolution still do it's thing and bring an interactive experience to the fans in the stands.  Heck, something like that which creates a unique gameday technology only available at the ground could be an attraction that brings in fans to the stadium.

EDIT:

More justification for the admin lurkers that may be reading here.  Smart phones are ubiquitous.  Use them.  Plus, you'll know exactly who your most loyal attendees are and which game they attend, even on general admission after paying cash for a ticket.  You can make related offers or programs through the app, like alumni or homecoming messages, and increase the entire SJU connection.  All through an app on a device that your customers/stakeholders bring with them.  Centered on football.  Then add the same for hockey and basketball, in the same app.  Now you know your cross-sport customers.  And you can market cross sports.

Anyways.   It's free advice.  I'm happy to consult for nada.

EDIT II: Add in ticket purchases to the app as well.

EDIT III:  Let the app have immersive stats, integrated with the feeds from other MIAC schools so people can keep an eye on those games as well.  Twitter feeds from the school and coaches.  Highlights post game, etc.  But if you want the replays, etc, then you use the app on the local Clemens Stadium network.  Sounds like a winner to me.  Certainly worth exploring with some prototypes and customer feedback.

EDIT IV: You're essentially presenting all the content from the online offer for free at the stadium, with a new skin optimised for quick usage at a game.  Plus whatever other networking content you want to add.  Get the computer science department to whip something up.  I wanna see the prototype already.

I'd settle for putting in new lightbulbs to replace the ones that have been burned out for a couple years!!   ::)
