A very bad DII team.
They beat an average plattville team.
I think SJU wins by 21 at least-depending on the weather.

So will the WIAC get two teams in the playoffs? I don't think a 7-3 or 6-4 team gets in even if they are from the WIAC.

Not a chance. There's a better chance of 3 from the MIAC than 2 from WIAC. Either one isn't happening though.

I reckon Perra is a pretty good QB but he's got the yips something fierce at the moment.  Very tentative throwing the ball so he's taking too many chances to compensate and is getting picked with regularity.
The Bethel matchup is looking more interesting. Nothing would surprise me including both teams playing two QBs. Marsh give BU the best chance of exploiting a very suspect Tommie secondary.

Selection Sunday could be filled with surprises!
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Any SJU fans glad that we played Gustavus week 2 instead of week 9?

UWW looked pretty impressive today, and has improved much since the early season. QB was on target. O line protected him and opened holes. One excellent WR, #6 (Wisniewski?) a couple pretty good WR's Didn't go to the TE's much. Secondary was so so. but otherwise good D. UWSP helped make them look good though, blowing coverages often, missing tackles, and penalties. Same game plan used against UST could work. Will be interesting if they meet.

Thanks, retagent.  When AirJohnnie(tm) is hot then every secondary will be challenged. Let's hope it stays hot for a while yet.

SJU1. 🏆

It's been noted this was the Jays 33rd MIAC title. 27 of them were under John. The first 4 occurred back in 1932, 1935, 1936 & 1938. This is Gary's 2nd title and it moves him out of a tie with George Durenberger, who coached the '38 team, and into third on the SJU coaching ranks in terms of MIAC titles.

The great Joe Benda was head coach for the '32, '35 & '36 titles so Gary will need two more to get sole possession of 2nd. The '35 (GAC & Olaf) & '36 (GAC) titles were co-champs so Gary does sit in 2nd in terms of undisputed MIAC wins.

The Toms have two issues on offense.

Perra hasn't progressed over the last two years as many might have hoped. The tools are there, but not so good with pocket presence, decision making, or looking off defenders. Seems like a great kid, but not quite the level for big opponents. Not so sure Ronnie Jones is the answer for a deep playoff run either. Wonder where Frankl, the Iowa State kid might be. For some reason the QB position in the Caruso era hasn't been true meritocracy, like other spots on the field. It takes a multitude of errors and struggling for the reigns to be handed over to an underclassmen. See Greg Morse, Matt O'Connell, and other when they have struggled for examples.

Secondly, the play-calling took a hit when Killian left. He was a magician. Caruso has a number of strengths as a coach, but play-calling and head coaching is hard to do jointly in a close game, and it shows from time to time.

Good to see the D step up when they needed it most!

I seriously doubt Bethel plays two QB's, barring injury to Roste.

He was playing hurt against SJU, which limited his mobility. Marsh came in and threw well, but he hasn't thrown consistently this year and outside of the SJU game and the first half vs Simpson I. Game 1 he has never been played ahead of Roste.

Roste will be the guy Saturday. He's growing as a thrower, but his running and power are how the offense is built. This is the best Oline Bethel has had in several years. Much like the lines of the 2000's and early 2010's. But they've got some deep threats at WR that will keep a D honest

Bethel D has been really good all year. Very good up front. Very athletic and physical secondary.

Keys to the game:
Can Bethel limit UST's ground game and force UST to beat them through the air?

Conversely, can Bethel run on UST's from 7 and have a pass game that plays off this successful ground game. If BU can't run and is forced to win it through the air, we may struggle. And if we can only run or obsessively try to run and don't take a few deep shots, I have a hard time seeing victory.

These teams are pretty similar on the lines and D. How they run the O through their QB's is the difference.

I haven't seen Frankl in a few weeks. Thought he might pass Jones as #2 but now Dolan has been 3rd in mop up with Sexauer seeing some time after that. Maybe Frankl is dealing with injury?
