It is my understanding that when setting brackets for 8 teams, #1 is at the top, and the number two team in the bracket was at the bottom, number three was in the bracket above them and the number 4 team ended up against the number 1 team in the second game. Is that not correct?

Yes, but these brackets are not payed out like the NCAABB brackets are. Top ranked team is on top in each quarter bracket, eighth and pairing.  This means BU was the fourth ranked team in their bracket.

To illustrate:

#1 vs. #8
#4 vs. #5
#3 vs. #6
#2 vs. #7

Perhaps Pat or someone else that does a lot of bracketing can enlighten all of us, or maybe just me, on how brackets are put together.

And given the placement, SJU seventh ranked overall and BU 15th.

So, it's like this when looking at these football brackets?

#1 vs. #8
#2 vs. #7
#3 vs. #6
#4 vs. #5

Not sure what you mean, sorry. They don’t hold strictly to seeds in order to save money.  In your bracket, UWW is 1, NCC is 2, Trine is 4 and BU is 3.

And then the others are distributed trying to stay true to seeds at minimum cost.

Oz, thanx for your patience. I would think that the NCAA would try to get the top 4 seeds in the bracket to not have to play one another in the first round (except in Texas) and try to seed the tourney along the "accepted method of bracketology".

If it was, that's why I think the Johnnies got robbed, as they become the third seed, not the second. Conversely, BU gets the second seed in their bracket. It's such a nice thing when everyone plays with the same "rules", but when the "rules" are not followed, it makes it hard to follow just who is ranked where for hosting in subsequent weeks.

Massey Prediction for Wartburg @ Bethel:

Bethel a 71% win Probability.
Score prediction 31-24 good guys.

FWIW ... I'm also guessing Bethel was an underdog according to Massey last week, so grain of salt and all that.

Massey has you three-point underdogs last week, 28-25.  Your defence outperformed.

Sure did! Actually, we played about exactly how I thought we would. This D is legit.

The seeding is usually 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, exc. However, welcome St. John to the south. You got 1 seed(2nd in national) vs 4/5 (7 in national) HSU  4/5 seed Berry facing 6/7 maryville. 3 ( should be a one at least two in the other brackets 3 national) vs 6/7 seed Martin Luther 2 seed (10 national)Whitworth vs 8 seed who cares. St John enjoy this week because you have to face two top ten teams just to get to semis(one that should be a semi game) Welcome to the South where we get messed over almost every year lol.

As expected, folks are not very happy on the Texas board. The first-round issue is nothing new, but they see it as the toughest bracket and it's hard to disagree.

For what it's worth, the commitee chair is a coach who might never need to recuse himself in postseason proceedings. His team lost to Mac this season.

It sounds like the committee didn't want to go this route, but got their hand slapped by the NCAA and told to make things 'Regional' again in early rds and avoid flights at all costs. But you know the easiest way to spell Dumb is N-C-A-A

AO- give us the UMAC low down on Martin Luther. GAC beat them the first weekend in non-conference play.

BTW- isn't this the same school who knocked the Johnnies out of the Hoops Tourney this past spring?

No that was BETHANY Lutheran that kicked SJ2 by 30+ on its home court..... same conference & denomination thought.
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.
