Yes, this bracket sucks.  But that so much spilt milk under the bridge.  Time to pick ourselves back up as supporters and ask:

"What is over when the German's bombed Pearl Harbor?"

Yeah, Brockport -- the most suspect No. 1 seed in the tournament -- gets put in a bracket with two other ranked teams. And the UMHB bracket has more top-10 teams than Brockport's does in the top 25.

AO- give us the UMAC low down on Martin Luther. GAC beat them the first weekend in non-conference play.

BTW- isn't this the same school who knocked the Johnnies out of the Hoops Tourney this past spring?

No that was BETHANY Lutheran that kicked SJ2 by 30+ on its home court..... same conference & denomination thought.
Thanks for the clarification Maniac, I knew I could count on a reasonable Tommie for a question like this!  ;D
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

My final post as I've got to get to work on some things, but I'm fine with these insane power brackets. The West suffered this fate for years. But if we're going to be crashed in a power bracket then keep us in our own bracket. The airplane ride to beef up the south makes little sense. Just let the west fight it out like they did before the UMU/IWW period distorted everything.

What's annoying is it sets things up to get perpetuated next year because of the whole 'What did you do in the postseason last year' tie breaker.

Brockport makes the semis by playing virtually no elite teams. Meanwhile SJU or another top team loses in the quarters. And next year they are sitting at 10-0 and the committee says, but Brockport made it to the semi's last year, ergo they have to get the last #1 seed  ::)

If the NCAA is really trying to make things more 'regional' again, this kind of siloing effect will only make it worse.

Exactly.

SJU beat two teams that finished in the top 16. What was Brockport's signature win?

We should start an email campaign to the joker from Lake Forest who's runnng this thing. The selection show host made a passing comment bout the south bracket and that was it. Complete joke selection committee.

And for all the Idiots jumping on this board go away.

You can read up on the Knights via Reusse or D3football's Joe Sager  As sfury and maniac have already pointed out, they do not have a powerhouse basketball team like Bethany is building in Mankato.  I certainly hope Martin Luther can figure out a way to run their veer against the Johnnies to make it somewhat competitive, but their defense has struggled against the lower tier UMAC teams like Iowa Wesleyan and Minnesota-Morris.  It's hard to prepare for the veer if you don't play against it much and they have the athletes to run it well, but maybe not the size to get it going against the Johnnies.

As for the Johnnie's path to the Stagg, the committee chair Catanzaro sounded fairly defeated about the flights and the weak East.  Just way too many weak East teams that can't get to Mount Union without a flight this year.  It doesn't sound like they even bothered discussing St. John's vs Brockport as a #1 seed since they knew it would give the bracket too many flights if the Johnnies were a #1.  They didn't have to go into the previous year's results to break a tie between undefeated teams, it was solely geographic.  On the plus side, as a player I'd be pretty excited about flying down to Texas for the Quarterfinals.

Changing gears for a moment...got home this evening from Iowa City. It was a great weekend visit of my first born that is a freshman Hawkeye. Kinnick is a great place to watch a game especially when the asshole in front of us would sit  down once in a while. I'm not against standing and cheering on a big 3rd or 4th down but this guy was standing om First and 10 from the 25 and our seats were in row and there was nobody in front of him!
Iowa is a boring team and the tv timeouts combined with the cold didn't help. Having watched more SJU D3 games than D1 or NFL I can honestly say that the timeouts have ruined football. Kickoff in Iowa was at 2:30 and we walked out at 6 pm with seconds on then clock in a 14-10 games. There is no reason a game should run that long.

AO brings up an important point.

This is not the National Committee and certainly not the chair's fault. This was straight down from the NCAA. It sucks, because it sets the entire playoff format back a more regionalized era that wasn't nearly as good at competitive balance.

But hey, it's still postseason football and the MIAC is one of the few leagues with two representative (and we don't have to play each other in Rd 1).
