Anyone else think St John's was royally screwed? In order to win it all we would potentially have to beat UMHB in the quarterfinals, Whitewater in the semifinals, & Mount Union in the Stagg Bowl. Going back to 2005, those three programs are the only programs to have won the Stagg Bowl. Thoughts?

Don't you mean UMHB, Bethel NCC, & Mount Union?  ;)

I wouldn't want to face those 3 either  ;D

Fixed it for you.    ;)

Brinker has had a Good type of career at SJU. Very good players, but what might have been had they been healthy??

It still blows my mind to think that he played a significant part of his sophomore year with 2 blown ACL's.  With all of the side loading that happens with O-linemen pushing on you from various angles, it's hard to believe it would even be possible.

I was surprised when they moved Trey Anderson to CB...I figured they'd find a spot for him when QB didn't really work out since he's such a good athlete, but would've guessed the more common QB to WR move, or maybe Safety.  I didn't necessarily think he had the quickness to play CB, but he certainly does.

Did anyone pick this guy when names were being tossed around?  It's good to see a Tommie returning to the fold.

I like the hire, but with his resume my head is spinning. This guy is a legit candidate for a Power 5 AD job. A) What are they paying him? 2) Is something else afoot?

Funny, I was going to compare him (Brown) to Kirk Midthun. Sowilson was scary prophetic in that entire post. Amazing!

Now you're just dropping some old school knowledge on the board! Most guys are probably like, Kirk Who? Anyone who Midthun hit back in the day remembers who he was (or maybe can't remember after those hits  ???)

I said to my BU Alumni brother earlier this year, to me, Brown is an amalgamation of Kirby Carr (run D, blitzing), Brandon Carr (coverage and range), and Nate Voronyak (sheer size and physicality). But he's probably more Midthun than Voronyak in terms of pure 'He's a just a football player making plays." Bottom line, he a get off the bus first guy, who is also an absolute baller.

I downloaded the "Versus Sports Simulator" app on my phone earlier in the season & out of curiousity ran the matchups throughout the entire bracket. It predicts that Bethel will beat Wartburg, 32-24 in the first round before suffering a 30-21 defeat against North Central in the 2nd. The app predicts that St John's will massacre Martin Luther, 62-3 to advance to the 2nd round to take on Whitworth (out of Washington state). The predicted score of that matchup is a 46-11, St John's win. In the quarterfinals it predicts that St John's will defeat Mary Hardin-Baylor, 33-30 before suffering a 27-24 loss at UW-Whitewater. Playing it all out has Whitewater defeating Mount Union, 27-26 in the Stagg Bowl. I hope when all is said & done St John's takes it all obviously! Will be pulling for Bethel as a representative of the MIAC as well! Love reading everyone's contributions to this board!

Midthun was on the amazing Triton team of the mid90s and was QB on team that destroyed JWP in playoffs on their way to state title. I also fondly remember his freshman year at Bethel leading unbeaten Royals into Collegeville late in the season...and Bethel scoring first TD, followed by 52 unanswered by Johnnies. He of course finally got some SJU revenge in 99 with the first Royals W. It was pretty amazing how he went from having one of the most decorated QB careers in MN state history to being a great d-back.

As was Midthun! I love those type of guys! I was totally impressed with Brown!

If we start hearing Med School talk (again) that will be a key that you just might be on to something here. (Alliance Stadium is already built)

I think Midthun was Mr. Football in MN his senior year. Those Triton teams were filthy good.

Coach J tells a great story about that 96 SJU game. Bethel came in unbeaten and ranked in the region for the first time ever. All piss and vinegar, strutting around, feeling like this was the year we got the Johnnie monkey off our back. We go down the field, score the first TD, and Coach J remembers walking up & down the sideline, chest out, just bursting with energy, the team was bouncing off the walls. And then 52 SJU points later ...

But it was a really important lesson for Bethel and the coaching staff in terms of handling success and not getting overhyped in big games.

Yeah, this certainly won't do anything to dispel the UST is leaving D3 rumor mill!?!

When people brought him up as a candidate, I didn't think it was a serious possibility. The pay range must have been a bit higher than I may have thought.  Great hire. Has spoken at a couple of UST events and has always presented himself as a strong leader. He has facilitated the transition back to success for Penn State football with the hiring of Bill O'Brien and James Franklin. Maybe he can chat with James Franklin today and tell him to bring back Erdmann for a final year on scholarship. They need a McSorley replacement.

I paid for a subscription to Stretch so that I would be able to watch St John's home games this season. Does anyone know if the subscription will cover the playoff game Saturday against Martin Luther or will I be able to access those without charge?

I was going to pose this question, too.  For some reason, I seem to remember that the host institutions cannot charge for streaming access for playoff games.  Anyone know for sure?

I finally showed my parents how to stream the games to their TV for the Concordia game.  I got a text from my mom on Saturday saying that they didn't know that SJU started charging.  :o   I'm hoping they can watch this weekend so I know that they successfully did it without me there!  ;D
