Congrats to Auggies Nick Heenie, Derek Glynn, Chris Lemke and the punter Jacob Kraft who had a lot of practice this year  ;)

Also congrats to the HM guys.

Brinker, Erdmann, Fasching with the major awards for SJU.

I think Kilgore over Brinker, but that's splitting hairs. They are both ridiculous talents, and to the victor go the spoils.

My bigger beef, all the UST guys over the Bethel guys. Either Bethel's players lost out to UST's reputation/name swag. Or Coach J should have been coach of the year for the job he did with such a small amount of talent compared with UST and SJU.

I think you can make the argument for Coach J based on the improvement from last year. But I actually think the players are the one's who took it on the chin here. Especially on the Defensive side of the ball.

#norespect #keepdoubtingus  ;)

All that said, there was a clear pecking order of 3 really good teams, a big pack of teams, and then the bottom few.

Everyone talked about UST being down this year. Maybe a tick. But I think the Wart result in Rd 1 showed that it's more about SJU and Bethel taking big leaps forward, IMO.

Also, I'll go on record as saying I wish we had an award for best LB/DB in the league.

Stam is a great award for the linemen.

MVP tends to be a top QB, WR, RB type award.

That leaves a spot to honor the top Defensive skill guys at LB and DB.

I'm creating the Carr Award, named after Kirby and Brandon Carr, given annually to the best DB/LB in the MIAC.

Inaugural award goes to ...

Sr. Dawson Brown, SS, Bethel University ;D 8-) (not really joking about the need for this award or it's recipient. Brown is an AA talent, no question. Show me a DB who is as equally elite at coverage, run support and pressuring the QB.)

And to anticipate the rebuttal about Max Jackson. You already got Brinker as the Stam ;) We'll give you Max as Carr award winner in exchange for Kilgore as Stam, but dagnabit, we are taken home one of these bad boys!!

You might be onto something here. UST should have been up this year. They just didn't gel for whatever reason. With the caliber of ball both SJU and Bethel played this year, you won't win with bad QB play and no pressure on the passer (IMO). That being said, I like both our teams again this weekend. The BU game is going to say a lot about the league/UST. I sure hope they get it done. I think SJU is more of sure thing but I do think Whitworth will be better than GAG and will hang around for at least a half. I can't believe you can win the Northwest Conference undefeated and only be comparable to the 4th team in the MIAC.

Dawson Brown is a great Football player, period! IMO, he could have certainly been in the mix for MVP. I'll concur on the Carr Award. Max would get the best Athlete award! He is a rediculous baseball player. I would suggest using him in certain situations as a wideout for the playoffs against UMHB, instant points! Most people don't know this but he probably could have played hockey at SJU too! He was a rockstar hockey player for CDH in HS.

UND just fired Paul Rudolph as OC. The message boards are floating Heckendorf's name.

I had the same thoughts about NCC vs. Bethel. A BU win I think validates UST as a Top 12 team. If either BU or SJU make the Semi's, it's an even bigger statement, but there's a lot of FB on Saturday before we can even dream those dreams.

And absolutely on Max Jackson. He's a baller.

All of this to say, there's a ton of elite talent in the MIAC this year. If Bethel and SJU can keep winning, it should really boost the All Region and All America resumes of all the 1st Team All MIAC football players.

Nooooooooo

Seriously, would they hire a guy with one year as OC at the D3 level?

I knew you'd say that!  ;)

I don't know that they could have gone wrong with either one.  My guess is the voters didn't care for Kilgore's hair, though if that's the case, Erdmann would have been out of the running for MVP.  :o

Who do we need to contact/bribe to make this happen? Do I need to become a UND booster to facilitate this?

They may not select him, but they would be foolish not to consider him. If the success is sustained Heckendorf is gone in the next 3 years. He has a world of opportunity in front of him. Look at Killian with UST. Brilliant play-callers and offensive system guys are a valued commodity in this era of football. I wouldn't be surprised to see Craig Bohl offer him a position assistant position as well. If you are an SJU fan you hope his knowledge and system has permeated among the staff and team.

I'm nothing if not predictable. It's like Bench's annual bemoaning of UND wimping out on the initial jump to D1  ;) 8-)

Got a good chuckle out of the hair comment too. Kilgore has more of a mane, Erdmann's seems better conditioned and maintained. Per usual for a DE vs. a QB I suppose  ;D

Based on this year's results bigger things are in Kole's future. I do hope we can keep him a couple of more years. FWIW, I am told he loves it at SJU.

I hope Kole sticks around for quite a while.  FWIW, his wife is from the area (her mom was a teacher of mine in high school), so hopefully family ties can tip the balance in SJU's favor.  And here's hoping some of that John Gagliardi Football Legacy Fund makes its way to his wallet.  :)
