Lots of Jackson Erdmann in the podcast for you Johnnie fans. St. Thomas and Bethel get mentioned, as well as Mount Union (for you MUC57).

Oh, BDB.  Is there something in the cheese?

Man Told Cops He Robbed A Bank Because He 'Decided To Try Something New'

QuoteA Wisconsin man was arrested after police say he pulled out a gun and demanded $10,000 from an employee at the Community First Credit Union in Appleton, Wisconsin. The teller handed Xengxai Yang the money, then Yang zip-tied her hands before leaving the bank.

When police arrived, they spotted Yang walking away from the bank wearing black clothing and what appeared to be a ski mask. Officers stopped Yang to question him and when they searched him they found a modified .22-caliber rifle with a round in the chamber, extra rounds of ammunition, zip ties, and the cash he allegedly stole from the bank.

Yang admitted to committing the robbery and told police that he had "decided to try something new today, so I robbed a bank."

And they're off...

Really hoping this doesn't happen but seems like it has momentum.

Interesting.  It seems that St Olaf is pretty danged PO'ed at getting stomped, as are the other small-money programs.  Maybe the behind-the-back two-point plays really aren't greeted with the friendly spirit that UST intends when grinding out triplestomps.

But I'm not sure I even believe this article.  There are facts which are clearly wrong.

QuoteFirst, however, the MIAC schools must vote to change the league bylaws. Currently, the lone reason for expelling a school is unethical or illegal conduct, and there are no such claims against St. Thomas.

Reusse is extremely plugged into this. And he strongly indicates the Oles are leading the charge. St Olaf likes to fancy themselves as some poor mans version of a Midwest NESCAC school like Williams. The problem is they really aren't academically or athletically. They would get taken to the woodshed there too. The Oles have nice facilities and an extremely healthy endowment. Maybe look in the mirror.

What's the end game. It doesn't change your teams national status. You're still a bottom feeder. Imagine if UST was MHB or Mount Union good.

What happens to SJU at their current rate? Equally successful in the big sports the last couple years.

There's an opening in the Midwest Conference if St. Olaf would like to change its fortunes.

Would be a homecoming of sorts for them since they were in the Midwest from 1952-74.

Just imagine if the OAC schools all of the sudden throw Mount out because they can't win against them in football.....If this (I hope it doesn't) goes through...Would the Midwest take them in?

Can't wait for those Johnnie-Macalester games to replace Johnnie-Tommie week. If nothing else, their fans' spelling will be better on Post Patterns but I don't know if I see it having quite the luster.

Maybe Tommies bring Roney back for four years just so they go down to bottom of the standings again and other schools feel okay facing them.

Hoping this doesn't go through but sounds almost likely (wonder if there might be some backlash now that news of the meeting has leaked a few weeks ahead of time, maybe make some of the presidents rethink. Probably not, but maybe.)

It's won't go through. It's extremely petty. And I'm glad to see that both BU and SJU oppose the idea.

Look, it is a problem that the bottom half of the MIAC gets hammered but it's only partly the top half's responsibility.  Our top teams need to be this good to compete nationally.  Maybe there are some things that can be done, like not treating the bottom teams as little other than scrimmage matches, but if the alternative to getting kicked out is to do worse then that just bad thinking.

I reckon there has to be more to this story. Some bad blood. It's too petty to be justified by reason. It makes me think there must be some emotion behind this push.
