Kentucky Derby pre race there was a feature on horses names with the track announcer and he brought up one beauty: "Hoof Hearted"    ;D
If you don't get it say it quickly, like a track announcer: "Hoof Hearted coming down the stretch!"

One of my favourites is a horse that raced here about 20 years ago.  Waikikamukau.  Pronounced "Why kick a moo cow."

Or you could do one of the more famous names Cunning Stunt.  One of the Dallas sports stations likes to bring that horse's name up to see if they can draw someone offsides.

I know this is a football page but can someone tell me how a team that finished 5th in the conference in softball made the D3 softball playoffs?  I don't get it....

They didn't even make the MIAC playoffs? They must have knocked off some highly ranked teams or something. Interesting.

Possibly...they were ranked #5 regionally but split against each of the four teams that were in the MIAC tournament (U$T, Hamline, Olaf and St Kate's). One more thing that won't sit well w the #COL!

How do you get to be ranked 5th in the region if you only finish 5th in your own conference? ???

I wouldn't worry about this happening again now that the MIAC is going to start championing mediocrity as its core philosophy.

Unlike football or even basketball, where 70+% of the schedule is in conference, softball schedules are about 50-ish% in conference.  That's a lot of games outside of the league where a team can rack up primary criteria points.  This kind of thing is probably pretty rare, but there are enough out of conference opportunities to make it plausible where in other sports there just wouldn't be the time or number of games to have that kind of disconnect between your conference standings and the regional rankings.

I think that if you look at the overall record, CSB was second only to UST but what do I know.  :)

Hamline had the toughest strength of schedule in the MIAC, finished head of St. Ben's in the standings, and took the Tommies into 11 innings for the championship. Hamline got screwed.

St. Olaf's Music Department supports 16+ on-campus musical groups and offers performance facilities that put most other private Minnesota schools to shame. Administrators see music as something that differentiates St. Olaf from its competitors, so they spend a disproportionate amount of resources in this area and recruit large numbers of talented student musicians. St. Olaf has promoted musical excellence so aggressively that it's now viewed as "the place to be" for aspiring student musicians who want to attend a private school in Minnesota. In fact, St. Olaf has been so successful that other private schools are finding it difficult to compete with them in the world of music. Perhaps there should be a cap on the number of students--especially student musicians--allowed to matriculate at St. Olaf. Maybe St. Olaf should be required to share its resources with other private schools in Minnesota to heighten their musical excellence. Another option is to level the playing field by forcing St. Olaf out of Minnesota, where it can compete against schools with similar musical prowess. I don't necessarily have a solution, but something needs to be done. Music at St. Olaf is getting out of hand...

I heard it too, he said the vote could be a move to prevent the MIAC from breaking up if UST is allowed to stay. Also said UST could preempt the vote by announcing they were leaving. Ruesse thought some schools like Gustavus, Bethel and others could call the bluff of the schools threatening to leave in an attempt keep the league intact. Nothing new of course but it did sound like he had good sources. He also mentioned some folks at SJU were telling him to count on 2 more SJU/UST games as it will be a 2 year process to leave.
