If SJU was smart, they'd just plop a small liquor store on campus.

Between students and monks, they'd probably make plenty of money for the school.

A tradition unrivaled...

Or we could buy the La Playette.

Wonder what SJU Student Accounts Office will say when I tell them the tuition check will be a little late this fall because I just bought a liquor store.  ???

fins, somehow I'm guessing that you can write a check for 10 grand and still make the tuition payment.  ;)

BDB

As far as buying an on-sale place, that's a whole 'nother kettle o' fish.

My partner and I considered it once. I mentioned it to my mom who was in a nursing home at the time and not doing well.

She looked at me and said "Bob, you don't know what trouble is until you own a bar!"

That was it. No on sale biz for BDB.

But if we have $100,000 for down payment and another $10,000 for start-up costs I am sure a bank will look favorably on that situation. (sumander?)

BDB, We are a little light on the downer. We like to see 20% on the real estate. Larger Corprate banks look for 30% down.

Can we find a suitable location for $750,000?

The other thing to consider is the grocery store lobby pushing for strong beer/liquor/wine in the grocery stores.
I fly any cargo that you can pay to run

Sumander, 20%-30% down money?

Why borrow any then?  ???  :D

I am used to no down so I guess I am out of touch.

Anyway, there's money out the for an established business especially when guaranteed by substantial credit like this group would have. I got to believe that 10-15% would do it.

As far as grocery stores go, most people like to buy their beer and liquor supplies in an environment that seems suitable. They don't necessarily like to have their neighbor who's at a grocery store getting lettuce see them hauling out a 1.75 ltr of vodka.

Not true. But my ex-wife could.  :'(

BDB, Does Wisc have liquor in grocery stores?

When you have other holdings and an established track record (like yourself) you can get by with no money down.

The grocery market would make a dent in the wine and beer market, though. Doubt that would drive too many package stores out of business. But it's still all about location. And service.

tmerton- the place I took you to was the World Market store, which, to my surprise, had a pretty decent wine selection. As BDB said, good margins on wine, beer you make up on volume.

sumander, this is Wiscy were talking about. There's liquor and beer everywhere.  :D

My liquor stores are open 365. Yes, even X-mas. One of our better days, especially for wine.

I think Fins has the key.... LOCATION! Finding the right location in St Cloud for $750M might be a challenge.

(just playing devil's advocate here) That's my job ;D

Cord Glory

Ole decided one day that he was going to enter himself in the local wrestling meet.  It was widely known that the Ivan, the Russian, was the clear favorite, because he had never lost a match.  Ivan's signature move was called 'the pretzel' and no one had ever gotten out of it.

Ole is doing farily well, and at the end of the day, he ends up wrestling Ivan for the championship.  Within the first 10 seconds, Ole gets put into the pretzel. Shorlty after, in an amazing display of wrestling ability, Ole reverses out of the pretzel and pins the Russian.  The crowd is stunned.

After the match, a TV reporter asked Ole how he did it.  "Well," Ole said, "When i was in the pretzel i looked straight ahead and there was a pair of nuts right in front of me.  I bit them as hard as I could." Ole Paused,  "Its amazing what you can do when you almost bite your own nuts off."  :o

To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kind of scary. I've wondered where this started and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus, and a clown killed my dad.
