The footy season continues apace, Hawthorn not doing too well.  Twins are up, Hawks are down.  It all balances for me.

But I saw this pic of James Cousins playing in the seconds (the minor league team for an AFL squad).  The seconds don't play on the beautifully manicured paddocks with perfect drainage and worn grass replaced by fresh sod every week.  The minors still play old school.  In the mud.

EDIT: That picture reminds me of my high school days playing in the slop.  Nothing felt better than that shower after a cold, miserable, muddy game with a little snow tossed in for good measure.

I played the last game of my junior year of HS against your HS at their football field in GR.  I played in snow flurries once or twice every fall in Duluth, but that was the only game that I played in a full on snow storm.  It was a blast.  Was freezing during pre-game, but didn't really notice after that.

They've got a new field now in GR, at least new from my days. I doubt it's as sloppy as the old one but it would still be covered in flurries.

I can't remember which school you played for, G&B. Where was it?

Yes, the new field is much nicer.

I played a game or two on the old one, down by the hockey arena two, and then they had the new one finished for my last couple of years.  I went to Duluth Central.  Coincidentally, also ended both junior, and senior years of basketball with a loss to / at Grand Rapids, though we did put a scare into the heavily favored Eric Webb led team when I was a junior.  He was probably the best player I ever played against, and went on to have a solid college run at D1 Furman, and then played professionally overseas for a long time.

Played against Rick Rickert too, but while he was clearly very good, being as tall as he was contributed to much of his dominance, while Webb was just on a whole other level as a shooter / passer / ball handler.

Oz, a young Aussie named Hannah Green just won the Women's PGA over at Hazeltine.

Should make the sports headlines down under.
Had fun following my cousin (in-law) around the course on Friday.  I saw a few fans with Australian flags draped around them, but they weren't drinking so they might not have been authentic Aussies.

I just noticed you're +100 on karma, AO.  That was one hell of a hole you dug out of.  How deep was it?  -800?
The deficit may have been worse than that.

Greatest karma comeback in D3boards history?!?

Impressive that you have karma numbers in line with the number of your posts. You're definitely not putting weak stuff on the board.

It looks like Massey has set up his rating system for next year. (https://www.masseyratings.com/cf/ncaa-d3/ratings)

The top 10 with rating and conference are (ignoring the NESCAC):

1. UHMB, .69, ASW
2. UMU, .49, OAC
3. SJU, .48, MIAC
4. UWW, .45, WIAC
5. John Hopkins, .30, Centennial
6. Centre, .11, SAA
7. N Central, .10, Ill & Wisc
8. Bethel, .08, MIAC
9. UST, .06, MIAC
10. Wheaton, .06, Ill & Wisc

A couple observations, UMHB has a little break away but it's pretty tight at the top for first four teams.  And the MIAC will be a war.

Oz

Thanks for the Massey ratings. Just have two questions.
  1. Not familiar with UHMB. To be ranked number 1, I bet they dropped down from Dl. Is it a
Hawaiian school? Could be named for the city it's in. Just curious.
  2. Why wasn't Mary Hardin-Baylor (UMHB) ranked? Being defending national champion, I thought
they would be number 1. Maybe Massey just made a mistake.
I would love to see some accurate rankings. Perhaps they could.................. Oh, Oh! I finished re-reading the whole thing. UHMB vs UMHB. I see, now!

Never mind what I said above. Hey, I'm old. I get mixed .................... ::)
I'm old! I get mixed up and I forget things! Go Everybody! 🏈 ☠

So will he be cranking out all the content at gojohnnies.com?  Interesting.

So a well-known journalist from a major news outlet has been hired to promote SJ2 athletics. When are the MIAC presidents meeting to discuss whether this sort of thing will be tolerated?

It's my understanding that Frank will contribute content on all things SJU. I see this as a chance to really tip the scale in favor of the Johnnie's  music department. Watch out Oles  ;)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

The MIAC would only let UST stay in the conference if it made these equipment changes ( see picture)  when playing interconference play in the MIAC..."UST experimented and decided to move on" ;D

What's the best way to get tickets for the 2019 Tommie Johnnie Game? I went to the website and it looks like most of the tickets are gone?  What's left is expensive or ****ty locations. Isn't there like 20K seats in Allianz Field?  Pretty impressive if this game is going to sell out!...also were do you tailgate and can you?  Plus are adult beverages being served in the stadium?

I plan on bringing my friends from Chicago they are inntrested in seeing what all the hype is about...

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!

CT, it's great to see you. How have things been?

The bubble ball reminds me of the luxuries of college and the time to do useless things.  #1 is considering doing a two-week residential wine appreciation course up in the Yarrah Valley over the summer. It earns the same credit as a full semester non-major elective.  Bloody hell. I want to go back to school.

Hello OZ,

Would like to say it's been a great year, but  honestly it's been pretty ****ty going through a divorce for the first time... And I know I probably should've not said that on the board..😁 I know i just opened my self to some jokes at my expense, but it's fine, I don't mind...it's kinda fun😁 I am really looking forward to football to getting rolling!
