Karma dings. Chuckle.

Soft as butter Tommies live to ping my karma.  I could post an inspirational picture of Mother Theresa saving the poor of Calcutta and I would get dinged five points.  I'll prove it tomorrow after today's ping-happy grumps get their once-a-day timer reset.

I only ding your karma when you have bad takes.

The MIAC started out the season at 7 and 2, which is the number I predicted last week, but two of the teams surprised me. Augsburg won and the Johnnies struggled. Because the Johnnies struggled, their game took much of the luster off of the Cobber game where they lost in OT. I won't be surprised, and those reading this shouldn't be either, but Concordia is a team that other teams shouldn't discount lightly this year.

This coming week only 7 teams are in action, as both St. Thomas and St. John's have their second non-conference games during their scheduled "bye" weeks.

Augsburg hosts Concordia Wisconsin who also won last week. However, the Falcons beat arguably, the worst team in D3, while the Auggies won by beating a team that has been in the middle of their conference. The Auggies should not struggle too much chalking up a win at home.

Bethel is on the road this week with the first of three MIAC-WIAC games scheduled for the upcoming weekend. They are headed to River Falls, where the Falcons are coming off a win against Minnesota-Morris. Bethel looked pretty good this past week against Simpson, and unless they shoot themselves in the foot, should leave Wisconsin with another win in this young season.

Carleton is also headed to Wisconsin this weekend but headed to non-WIAC Lawrence College to take on the Vikings, who posted a win against Grinnell last week. The Knights looked good against Macalester, and I don't have much doubt that they will also do well against Lawrence, coming away with their second win for the season.

Concordia is the second team playing a WIAC opponent this week, as they host Whitewater. It is my hope that the Cobbers haven't lost their confidence with the OT loss last week against La Crosse. I do think that this again has the makings of becoming the game of the week, as it should be a hard fought close game that could go either way.

Gustavus is the third MIAC team to do battle with a WIAC team, playing Stout. This should be a win by the Blue Devils, as the Gusties don't look to have as much horse power as the Johnnies did this past week.

Hamline traveling down the street to Macalester is kind of a head scratcher, as both teams lost last week and did not look good in doing that. This is the annual rivalry game for the Old Paint Bucket. I don't know which team will lose to the other.

St. Olaf traveling down to Luther is the last game of the weekend. This match-up is becoming a rivalry game between two Lutheran schools in different conferences. The Norse are coming off a long road trip loss to Whittier. The Oles should be able to notch another win on the blue playing field down in Decorah.

Did you exclude me on purpose? Did I do something to warrant being booted?  I don't think there was even a MIAC presidents meeting to discuss it.  ;)

I'm on page 262 of the pickems board...I don't think I posted zero, but it's possible.

Definitely excluded you on purpose.  This was the Bethel related suspension that Pat was referencing in quick hits.

It all makes sense now.  I didn't think you were the colluding type.

Ha! I just wish he'd post in English and not Australian. It's annoying to have to run everything through google translate  ;)

As unexpected as St John's performance was Saturday against Stout, I agree with those who have said starting with a respectable opponent is much more beneficial than blowing out a cupcake. Stout certainly highlighted areas where St John's needs to improve & the early-season bye week will allow them to do just that! I'm anxious to see how Gustavus plays against Stout this Saturday & more so how St John's will handle Gustavus after having two weeks of practice to address the areas that Stout exposed!

Stout will be interesting to watch this year, just as they were last year and in '17.  As a program to watch and follow, Stout was never even on my radar, save for my cousin's husband who played a little QB there back in the mid 80's.  My introduction to the WIAC started in 2011 and unless your name was Whitewater, nothing else really mattered.

In 2016 UST smacked them pretty good at home and they went 3-7 that year.  But in '17 Stout turned the tables with a big early season win over UST that got everyone's attention.  They wound up 5-4 that year with respectable losses against the likes of Whitewater and Platteville.  They seemed to be turning the corner?

I was fairly high on them coming into this year as they returned a ton of starters and were in a lot of close games last year.  I'm not surprised they gave SJU a good game, but I certainly expected a wider margin of victory.  We'll see how they do against the WIAC gauntlet, but I expect they post a couple strong wins this year in conference.  I see them beating Gustavus this weekend.

Something new for Bethel fans: https://spark.adobe.com/page/BEmcBK0VBH2ON/

That's some nice work.  Who ever put that together has created a good feature.

#24 is a clean cut guy.  As American as apple pie.  In stark contrast to #77 who looks like he just climbed off a Viking longboat and is ready to do some killin' and pillagin'.  Actually, pretty much any BU player with a lineman's number looks like they are only 20 minutes off a longboat.

EDIT: Also, that long walk the players take over that bridge, past the BBQ and to the field is a nice feature.   I hadn't seen it before.
