I graduated from Mount Union in 1957 and 57Johnnie graduated from St. John's in 1957. I did not play football and I don't think 57Johnnie did either. We're just old. Welcome to the group.
Go St. John's! Go Bethel! Go Raiders! Oh hell, er, oh heck, sorry Rev., Go Everybody!  ;D

Play football for John back then-hell no. He still believed in hitting in practice. My roommate went out for one day and got a broken nose and concussion. Some of those guys were animals (that was in practice). I'm a slow learner but not that slow.  :)

MUC57/57Johnnie,

Bethel was in the Gopher/Badger Conference in the 1950's....Won the conference in 1958, but lost our three non-conference games >:(
Bethel  6   Hibbing 19
Bethel 13   Northwestern, Wisc. 7*
Bethel 6   Mason City 7
Bethel 6   North Park 26
Bethel 19   Northland 6*
Bethel 33   Milton 6*
Bethel 8   Lakeland 7*
Bethel 19   Platteville Tech. 0*

Former Seahawk's quarterback, Dave Krieg came out of Milton College, which closed its doors in 1982.

"I think I still  have two years of eligibility left."

repete

If you watched Krieg on TV, you'd have thought the name of the school was "Tiny Milton College" as it was always referred to.

BU5758

Absolutely, watched every Seahawk game.  Krieg was an undrafted free agent in 1980. Played 19 years in the NFL.

Milton College closed its doors in May,1982 and that fall, only 135 students were planning to return to campus. Yes, it was "Tiny Milton College".
The last football team took the field in 1981.

On an extra point play at Milton College, (1958) I caught the ball in the left corner of the end zone. My momentum took me just outside the end line and I fell in a burn pile, including broken glass. Was taken to the local clinic and had to have eight stitches.

"Still think I have two years of eligibility left." ☺

Senior Status?

I notice the posts today re older posters..... Can I assume that MU57 and 57Johnnie both played in 1957? Of course, Bethel wasn't in the MIAC at that time, so we wouldn't have played against each other.

I haven't posted much over the years, but my first post in September, 2004 got this response from OneArmedScott......
"Keep in mind BU5758 is a 65 year old retired minister according to his profile. So, while his heart is in the right place, his thought process might be a bit distorted."

The next fall, 2005, I met OneArmedScott at a Pacific Lutheran Game here in Puyallup, WA, and we both had a good laugh over my initial post and his response.

Getting older is great fun!...Will be in the Twin Cities in  two weeks to watch my grandkids play eight soccer games and two football games in two weeks, plus Bethel vs. Carlton at Homecoming.

Finally, nice to see five guys from Washington State playing for Bethel.
Go Bethel.....

You three "out of warranty" dudes are all pretty darn cool.

Unfortunate news for the Johnnie D.  DE Michael Wozniak seems to have smashed his hand in the opening plays of the Stout game.  Had surgery this week and is out four to six weeks, maybe longer.  Perhaps he'll be back against UST, but not certain.  Fortunately, the D looked very solid and seems able to absorb this setback.

That is a tough one. The small positive is he plays in a position where he can play with a club on his hand.

We're into the second week of the AFL finals (Hawthorn unfortunately missing out by one position, finishing 9th) and it's time for the hard nuts to show their stuff.  And one of the hardest nuts in the game is Geelong captain Scott Selwood who led the Cats in victory tonight over the West Coast Eagles.  Here's a pic of Selwood in the interview immediately post game.  The man is not afraid to put his head over the ball.

I does make me laugh, though.  I can't think of another country where they would look to interview a guy with blood streaming down his face and he refusing to clean it up just so people know how tough he is.  Man, that eyebrow is split wide open.

Agreed.  We'll see how this plays out.  Hell, Brinker played a season with torn ACLs in both knees!!!

A tradition unrivaled...

Back from a great trip to MN dropping of my oldest.  Wasn't able to make the Macalaster game, but the wife and daughter drove by Laird in the fourth and took a video.  I know the kids weren't back to school yet but looked like ~400 fans in the stands (maybe less  :o).  It is what it is and the win was most important.

Was able to catch the men's soccer game Sunday vs. Grinnell and enjoyed that.  Wonderful state, town, and college.  Can't wait to get up in October for the Augsburg game.
