The top 25 is out.  https://www.d3football.com/top25/2019/week2

The Johnnies remain in 4th.
The Tommies remain in 6th.
The Royals move up to 9th.

The Gusties received six votes.
The Cobbers's cupboard is empty but I reckon they are just a couple forward passes away from a top 20 spot.

The MIAC will be a bloodbath.

This has to be the toughest conference in the country. You guys are fun to follow. I think I'll do that. I may even follow the OAC. Go MIAC!  8-)  ;D

I'm now thoroughly nervous about the GAC game, but I have faith that the Johnnies will make some big strides this week.

They were looking well past that game last week.  A hard Stout squad came ready to play.  We'll see if the Johnnies come to play GAC.

I must admit I'm doubtful.  I fear that GAC will jump on the Jays early and then the Johnnies offence will panic and start playing hero ball trying to win on single plays and individual effort.

GAC has been close for several years now. I was quick to write off the UST result last year to UST overlooking them and being a bit down. I think it's also looking more and more like GAC is just good. And when they've got a qb Haugen is dangerous.

They've had good quarterbacks in the past.  What has been changing (too slowly for my tastes) has been scheme.  They have a few wrinkles on offense with their heavy package (and not just for short yardage) and some major changes in defense (more 4-3 less 3-4) plus paying more attention to clock management.

The MIAC will be a bloodbath.

It certainly feels that way after 2 weeks.  Interested to see if that pans out, or if GAC again isn't able to hold up against the MIAC top 3.  Also, as tough as it is to see your team start with 2 losses, if I'm a cobber fan, I would have a difficult time not feeling pretty encouraged based on my squad's results against UWW, and against what appears to be a pretty good UWL team.

Agreed on the Cobbers. A loss is a loss. But those aren't confidence shaking losses as much as they are 'keep grinding we are close' losses.

Week 3

So, after two weeks of play, the MIAC sets with a record of 12 and 4 with two non-conference games left to play later in the year. What was most surprising this past week was to see Augsburg lose, and be the first MIAC team this year to lay a goose egg. Bethel has the bye this week.

We begin conference play this week with St. Thomas playing at Hamline. The Pipers may be the second MIAC team to post a goose egg, just three weeks into the season.

The second game is Augsburg travelling up to Concordia where the Cobbers will most likely get their first win of the season. They have played two very tough WIAC schools and are ready to win. Hopefully, Augsburg figures out how to score this week, so they don't get a second goose egg already this season.

The Goat Trophy is up for grabs in our third game this week, as Carleton travels across Northfield to St. Olaf. Both teams are 2 and 0 and looking good in their respective non-conference wins. The Knights have their work cut out for them, but I suspect the Oles will win at home in a close game.

The game of the week has to be Gustavus at St. John's. Both of these squads have traveled over the St. Croix to take on the Blue Devils at Stout already this season. While both squads came away with victories, the Gusties looked better in week 2. Is that because of an extra week of practice, or does it give us an indication of how these teams will do against each other? Probably some of both. I am not confident that the Johnnies win is in the bag, but that they do have the edge, especially playing at home.

Bummed the game is at SJU. With Bethel off this would have been a perfect week to watch that game but I'm not gonna pay to stream it.

I was remembering the time GAC beat the Johnnies in OT down there, and it seemed like just yesterday.  Looking at the schedules it was 2013!!  Wow.  Well, let's hope Fasching was holding a few things back vs. Stout.  Time to crank it up.

A pretty fine crop of experience QBs should make this a very interesting year ... and we don't even fully know yet what Dolan will bring to the mix.

Near the end of the summer the SJU J-Club announced our first full class for the Hall of Honor. 12 individuals and 1 team will join charter members John Gagliardi and Jim Smith.

There's a lot of catching up to do for honoring over 100 years of athletics. This should be a great night to honor our inaugural class and I'm hoping you Johnnie posters and lurkers can join us.

SJUrube:

Certainly will be a great event.  Who are the other inductees?  There is one person, who is an alum, former SJU athlete, huge supporter and contributor over recent years to SJU athletics, who, IMO, should be on that list.

Full list of inductees below. We certainly know there are additional athletes and coaches that are deserving. New Hall of Honor classes will be inducted each year.

• John McDowell '64 – Football
• John "Johnny Blood" McNally '24 – Football
• 1963 Football Team
