Was looking forward to some teeth grinding, head banging, fist pumping playoff baseball.

Still waiting.

I hate the Cards but I was really hoping they would go up 28-3 in that one.

Sheesh.  ;)

Another interesting tidbit concerning this weekend.

Quote
Saturday's meeting is the first since 2003 in which both teams were ranked in the top 10 nationally.

And that game, as many will recall, was an utter classic which the Johnnies won 29-26 with a last minute or so touchdown to take the lead.  But even more notable was that this game was number 409.  The game where Gagliardi became the winningest coach in college football history (long may his record stand).

EDIT: Interesting to probably only me, but I can't think of that game without this song playing in my head.

From the 409 game -- I flew out to MN to cover that game, and there were a ton of other media there. The St. Paul Pioneer Press had sent two reporters, one from sports and a general assignment reporter. About an hour after the game, after all the interviews and such, that GA reporter asked the assembled media, "What was that song they were playing at the end of the game?"

Never seen so many jaws drop.

Punk kids.  The hardest part of the last 10 years is making references to classic movies, TV shows or music from the 70's and 80's and getting back nothing but blank stares.  Millennials will be the death of me.  409 was a 60's hit, sure, but still.  It's the Beach Boys, for goodness sake.

Already well-known, but still a recent clip guaranteed to be a classic 20 years from now.  A Millennial Job Interview.

(The Oz kids have watched that in prep for interviews for their jobs.  I wanted them to have the chance to look in the mirror...)

That reporter was no kid. About my age I think. She interviewed me after the game while I was buying my John Gagliardi bobble head. The only thing she used was my observation that the bobble head looked more like Steve Allen. Many will need to goggle Steve Allen. If you have a bobble head look at it and tell me l'm wrong.

The writer was Mary Divine. Believe she is still covering Washington County for the PP.

Edit:  I was way off on the age. But not that much that she shouldn't know The Beach Boys.

Two other items of note from the 409 game:

1.  Scott Kirchhof, Bethel qb and current coach, was taken off the field in an ambulance. Ambulance literally drove onto the field. Turned out it was nothing serious but it sure was a scare.

2.  ESPN cut to Clemens Stadium from whatever game they were airing at the time to do a live interview with John.

It was a great game and a memorable day. It was also VERY cold..

So looking at this order, the idea of annually finishing somewhere between 2nd and 4th in football as part of the WIAC didn't appeal to the Tommies. Somehow their quick run towards D-I makes the whole dis-affiliation thing from the MIAC seem... well...orchestrated.

I don't generally expect wise posts from WI, but +K.  ;D

Thank you?

I had no idea what you were talking about and feared you were on the terps (Aussie slang for distilled spirits).  Are you referring to the 1985 playoffs?  We lost to Oxy and then Oxy lost to Central?

I actually had to look that up on Wikipedia to figure out what you were on about.  :D

D O.C.

Was that 2003 T -J game the one the field was mobbed?

Now that you mention it, it is a better likeness of Steve Allen.  :)

1 - Haz can confirm or deny, but I believe it was a fractured Sternum, so sort of serious.  Also, he's not a coach anymore this year.  He took on a full time position at Eagle Brook church.

I remember that hit--I believe it was Jamie Steffensmeier.  That dude could lay the wood!

This Saturday is SJU's Tackle Cancer game.  With the forecast, there will surely be lower attendance than hoped, but please help make this a success.  They'll be selling SJU cups--great for tailgating.

Snow here in western Colorado and headed east for game day.
Looks like I will have sunshine at my reserved seat.  :)

Anyone else think it's cool and neat that they named the Summit League after the street that St Thomas is located on? They've been anticipating our invite for years!
