Concordia has the bye-week this coming Saturday.

Hamline heads down to St. Peter to get beat up by the Gusties. The Pipers have four long weeks ahead of them until they square up with a team they have a chance of winning against.

Carleton hosts Augsburg and the Knights should win this game.

As has already been mentioned, St. Olaf starts going through the grinder this week, as they come up to Bethel to chalk up their first loss of the season.

Game of the week has to be the Johnnie-Tommie game at Allianz Field. The way the Johnnies handled the Royals this past week, I have to believe the Tommies will lose their second game of the season and be knocked out of post-season play.

"And now, for something completely different" - Rocket J. Squirrel

Duff mention that St. Olaf has a heck of a schedule ahead, and I thought I would look at all nine MIAC teams to see what teams they had left to play and to try to predict the records for the final five weeks of the season. Here we go, in alphabetical order:

Augsburg plays Carleton, Gustavus, Bethel and Hamline - record 0 and 4

Bethel plays St. Olaf, Concordia, Hamline, Augsburg and St. Thomas - record 5 and 0

Carleton plays Augsburg, St. Thomas, Gustavus and Concordia - record 1 and 3

Concordia plays Bethel, St. John's, St. Olaf and Carleton - record 2 and 2

Gustavus plays Hamline, Augsburg, Carleton, St. Thomas and St. Olaf - record 4 and 1

Hamline plays Gustavus, Bethel, St. Thomas and Augsburg - record 1 and 3

St. John's plays St. Thomas, St. Olaf, Concordia, Hamline and Rose-Hulman - record 5 and 0

St. Olaf plays Bethel, St. John's, St. Thomas, Concordia and Gustavus - record 0 and 5

St. Thomas plays St. John's, Carleton, St. Olaf, Gustavus and Bethel - record 3 and 2

Seriously! Hopefully in the next frame they realize what they have seen. :)

In all fairness, Dr. D has pretty high expectations (coming from a guy that took calculus from him).  :D

A tradition unrivaled...

Sounds like a great game over the weekend for SJU. It appears they stepped up against a very good Bethel team and are a legit contender on the National seen.

I'll start out my Johnnie/Tommie week behind by at least a TD because I have already been screwed by a Johnnie for this weeks game! My idiot nephew (who I love dearly)was a three year starter at center for Jays between 09-11, decided that this Saturday 10/19/19 would be a good date for his wedding in KC of all places! So I will not be attending the game this week because I'll be attending his wedding in KC. The only thing I can take stock in as that his best man and a number of his groomsmen are former Johnnie football players so, I'm guessing they aren't real pleased with my nephew for not looking at the Johnnie Schedule before setting a fall wedding date either. Going to be an interesting event though in KC as most of the family are Tommies so there will be a lot of Tommies and Johnnies on hand at the reception. Going to be a long night for the losing side listening to the other side gloat!

Jimmy Swoboda (sp?). Ran into a burly looking young man a few years ago wearing a SJU sweatshirt at a BBQ joint in KC. In fact it was the day SJU beat UWP in that playoff nail-biter. We introduced ourselves and had a nice conversation about SJU football. He mentioned he was an O-lineman at SJU.

Speaking of BBQ's in KC any recommendations for good BBQ? I would prefer not a chain (unless it's a smaller local or regional chain with just a few restaurants) Serving of cold beer is my only other prerequisite. I'll be there 3-days so I can try several. Thanks in advance to all responders!

I'll be making Pork Belly Burnt Ends for Saturday's pregame festivities!

I was getting hungry, Hazzben, and that BBQ review pushed me over the edge!

Yup. Sorry to hear about Gates. Had a coworker who used to fly their stuff in. But saving the list. Thanks, HB.

A little boy from Minnesota went to Rome on holiday with his family hoping to see the Pope. A couple of days after they'd arrived, the Pope was doing a tour in his Popemobile. The little lad was a bit worried that the Pope wouldn't be able to pick him out in the crowd, so his mom said "Don't worry, we'll put you on Dad's shoulders and he's bound to pick you out and talk to you."

So, they're in the crowd but the Pope-mobile drives past them and stops a bit further down the street where Francis gets out and speaks to a little boy in a Tommie t-shirt. Our story's lad is distraught and starts crying. His mom says "Don't worry, the Pope's driving around tomorrow as well, so we'll get you a Tommie t-shirt and then he's bound to see you."

The next day arrives and the boy's got on his new UST t-shirt. The Popemobile stops right by him, Francis gets out, bends down and says to the lad "I thought I told you to f*** off yesterday!"

I had Gates a couple years ago and it was pretty decent, not the best I've ever eaten, but not "bad".

Yes to Jack Stack.

Also I'd recommend if you are looking for a break from BBQ, a place called Stroud's.  Great down home cooking, fried chicken (specialty of the house), catfish, steaks and chops, great sides.  You get so much dang food, you won't believe it!  I've only been to the east side location, Oak Ridge Manor, in a very cool historic house, not that easy to find but you can get there.  Guess there's also a place in Overland Park. I'd highly recommend it if you like fried chicken and "down home" cooking.

I have to laugh at this image.  Amazing catch by Alston, yet the guys in the background don't look impressed at all.  :o  Maybe most of them are BU fans, but Dr. Dumonceaux is in the group, and he's about as big of a Johnnie fan as you'll find!

HA!! I was actually standing 3 feet to the left of that group when the catch was made. Great catch. And yes, a bunch of older BU fans, so understandably not jumping for joy on the reception.

SJU corner made an incredible play on the ball in the second half on a sure TD to Carlson on that skinny post. Totally laid out, really nice play by him.

That was a sick play, for sure!  I believe it was Chris Harris (#9).

Yep, it was #9. On a day when lots of great plays were made, that might have been the most impressive I saw. He had a great game. Unusually long and athletic DB for D3.

I literally almost added them to the list. Stroud's is a great place and the pan fried chicken is awesome. All you can eat sides and a caramel role included. Both locations are top notch. Overland Park has a bit more space and shorter waits if you're on the KS side.

A Tommie coed went to the health center. "I have a cold in my head," she told the nurse. "Well, that's better than nothing," the nurse replied.

OzJohnnie

Tommies on the left, Johnnies on the right.

This will be a clash of strength on strength.  The Tommies are slightly run heavy, the Johnnie D best against the run.  The Johnnies pass heavy, the Tommies D best against the pass.  Statistically, it's the toughest competition for both teams.

The biggest differentiator I can find between the teams is strength of schedule so far on Massey.  The Jays have played the 35th toughest schedule to date while the Tommies have played the 97th.  Have the Tommies engaged in some stats padding?  (BU has played the 20th toughest schedule, by the way).

I think the game is pretty predictable in terms of how it will be played.  The Tommies will be blitz crazy, trying to put Erdmann off.  They will have learned from last year, however, so I doubt they will send more than one man very often.  If the Johnnie passing game takes off again then the Tommies will be challenged.  LIkewise, the Tommie offence will try to dominate the LoS and run Parks for a lot of yards.  It will be interesting to see how JW goes against the big Tommie linemen.  He did a good job against Bethel of plugging up the middle and not letting the run go straight ahead too often.  He's a new look for the Jays and could have an influence.

It will be a tense first few drives until we see how the game is shaking out.  And then one side will really be hating life and hoping for that half-time break to adjust.

Excellent addition MRF! Stroud's is a definite! I will be there for at least one meal. We are staying in Overland Park, which is also where the wedding is. I will have to pick one or two of the BBQ joints. Again, Muchos Gracias!

It's not the same big strong Tommie O-Line we've seen in the past. As I had mentioned in some previous posts I don't think they have the horses they have had in the past. However, IMO, there is a wildcard or glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel if you look at the Cobber's game with the Gusties which appears to have been a dead even match-up. If those two teams are truly equal as the game between them indicates, based on the Tommie/Cobber game and the Johnnie/Gustie, Bethel/Gustie games this may indicate that the Tommies may have a better chance than most of us are willing to give them (myself included) Throw in the rivalry factor and this does have the makings of a pretty good game. FWIW, this is what I'm hanging my hopes on! (Duff)
