SJU up to #4.  Bethel took a dive to #8.  Currently looking grim for the Royals.

None of this stuff makes any sense. I thought I heard that in the coaches national d3 poll SJU is ranked #9 and Bethel #8.

Bethel could end up being the highest ranked team ever to not make the tournament, so they do have that going for them.

Actually it might be North Central, who is ranked 6 right now. We may have 2 top 10 teams not make the field (D3 poll rankings has nothing to do with selection criteria). That's mystifying.

This would be wild if they get left out as a 1 loss team. No MIAC or WIAC team in Pool C. Ouch.

The Tommies are gonna beat the pants off of them on Saturday anyway, so it's not going to matter, but...

Division III gets no respect! That AFCA Coaches Poll is a joke. It's unfortunate that the d3football.com poll does not receive more weight or even consideration when determining the playoff field!

Bummer.

BU over UST is certainly no gimme, but if they do win, the SJU crapping of the bed against Concordia will prove quite unfortunate.

It will be quite a bitter pill for the players to swallow if it works out that way.

I like to think the loss was intentional to screw BU's and U$T's playoff chances.  ;)

The 1-2 combo of UST v UWEC and SJU v CON has seemingly most hurt BU.  Now that's strange.

Bethel is also being hurt by Simpson and River Falls.  If you really want to manipulate the SoS in your favor, play winning teams from bad conferences.  You might get a better game from playing River Falls or Simpson but the NCAA's limited statistics won't give you proper credit.

The non-conference scheduling at all levels of football have always been a bit of a mystery to me. Most teams are scheduled out for 4-6 years in advance, but I have always felt it would be wise if teams would only book games a year in advance. If Bethel had booked a game with St. Scholastica (they had to play 2 NAIA schools in the Dakota's this season to fill their NC schedule) or Martin Luther this season they might be in a much better position today in pool C. The shorter scheduling window could help all teams schedule more favorable games and avoid ones that may well be hurtful to their cause.

Perhaps, but UST could probably have gone winless, as long as BU's only loss was to an undefeated SJU squad...UST's loss is a moot point.
