I'll root for Minnesota now that the Iowa game is over! Whitewater scored to take the lead & I figured they'd start to pull away, but Oshkosh answered! Oshkosh leads 21-20 with 9 minutes remaining!

Congrats to UST today. Nice win and Parks finished his career with a great game.

Chaos in the West this year.  Selection Sunday will be a thriller.

Chaos ensues. Wartburg might be out now. Or NCC.

The loss to the Cobbers looms large for the Johnnies as Oshkosh knocks off Whitewater 27-20 to claim the WIAC auto-bid and UWW gets thrown into the mic for Pool C.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Wow - what a change this weekend makes for teams in the West in Pool C. It'll be interesting to see in the morning what Pat, Keith, Wally and company put together for a mock bracket tonight.

The final 3 weeks of upsets in the West are monumental. Chaos indeed.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Into the mixing bowl. Wartburg out? Redlands out? Or a team from another region.

Yeah, the Johnnies had a ticket to punch, that's for sure.  But there's no use crying over spilt milk under the bridge.  Gotta beat the team in front of you to move on no matter where you play them.

The Jays have a very good shot to go really deep and make a huge mark this year.  But they gotta play their best every game now.  I'm looking forward to the early Sunday mornings now.

With the exception of mighty Mount, there is a lot more parity in this D3 football conference season. It causes chaos with Pool C, but is good for the sport.

Um Ya Ya loses their last five game of the season by a combined score of 230-41. You hate to see it, after the fast start. New flash to Prez Anderson, dropping UST isn't going to stack the deck in the Oles favor.

It will be interesting-uww will be first C pick-then who replaces them-ncc or wartburg or Redlands? Could have 3 "west" pool c teams and one "north" move Oshkosh to mounts bracket?

While we all wait with baited breath for the d3football predicted brackets, I did some digging on UST's progress through the NCAA D1 committees.  This is the update I found from the October committee meetings.  The Strategy sub-committee minutes start on page 15 and the UST matter is on page 17.

Review of the Reclassification Process.  (Fairness/Well-Being/Operational)

The Strategic Vision and Planning Committee reviewed a request from the NCAA Division  II Membership Committee that it consider whether there should be a pathway for an active Division III member institution to enter the Division I reclassification process without fulfilling the prerequisite of being an active Division II member for five years. An alternative avenue for  a  Division  III  institution  to  pursue  Division  I  membership  may  be appropriate, but additional discussion is needed to determine the associated timeline  and  requirements. It  is  essential  to  create  a  process  that  ensures that an institution seekingto reclassify to Division I is prepared to uphold the Division  I  philosophy  and is able  to  devote  appropriate  financial resources to student-athletes and sport programs.

At one point I saw a schedule of meetings but I couldn't find it again easily.  We may not see our next set of meeting minutes until Feb.

(I don't think these are the same minutes I put out previously but perhaps they are.  In which case someone else can hit Google so see if there's a further update.)

Gonna give a shout out to my Cobbs who salvaged a little something out of this past season by clawing back into a tie for 4th in the conference. The year's highlight is obvious. Lowlight was actually the loss to GAC, as that game had been won with a minute remaining and GAC pulled one out of the hat. In the end, the lack of any hint of a passing game cost the Cobbers dearly this year. Being "run oriented" is one thing, but being run dependent is another. Maybe next year...

Time to pull for the Johnnies now, which is always a bit of a compromising position, but so it is. I'll always say "Go Johnnies". (Most of the time I'll add a destination though  ;D)

Yeah, I really really didn't understand the Cobs philosophy this year. If they didn't have the right talent to run the triple option including the pass as an option (meaning a true dual threat QB and fast tailbacks that can catch a pitch and get the edge), why even run it? Plus, the better defenses in the MIAC figured how to blow up that scheme. They looked OK running out of a more traditional spread/pistol with trips and a tight end at times. Weird season with familiar results of sitting in the 3-5 position in the MIAC.

St John's seniors sit at 40-6 overall for their careers & 28-3 in conference play. With one playoff victory they'll tie last years seniors with a 41-6 overall record (also 28-3 in conference play). Out of curiosity, starting with the youngest class when Gary took the helm, the 2016 seniors finished 37-9 overall (26-6 in conference). The 2017 seniors finished 39-8 overall (28-4 in conference). Hopefully the class (& team) can build on their record & keep the season alive all the way to the Stagg Bowl!
