Could someone delete these Sager posts please?  I mean really.  Come on.  Post somewhere else and let us have this place today.  Far out.

Great game and great season SJU.
In my opinion, there is no question the Johnnies are a Stagg Bowl team.
It just happens that 2019 has three Stagg Bowl quality teams.

Four of 'em, not three. Wheaton beat North Central pretty decisively earlier this year, and the Wheaton vs. SJU game was essentially decided on a bonehead celebration penalty that bollixed up the decisive PAT attempt.

Nice way to toss that senior under the bus.  The guy can hardly stand up before another Wheaton supporter backs the truck over him again.

Who're you calling a Wheaton supporter?! >:(

So you're not a Wheaton supporter?  I didn't realise you just enjoyed kicking a kid when he was down.  I guess that's... better?

EDIT: But congratulations on coming here and highjacking our thread not an hour after we finish in the semi's.  It's much appreciated.  I mean, far be it that we enjoy and celebrate our team.  No, much better we spend our time after the victory kicking on Wheaton and watching you high-step around the place.  Top quality contributions to the MIAC thread on the national semi's day.  Great work.

I've hijacked nothing. All I've gotten is a lot of saltiness from SJU fans (and one UW-Stout hanger-on) who apparently weren't happy that I included Wheaton in the mix of four Stagg-worthy teams.

I said that the Wheaton kid who spiked the ball -- whose name I made it a point not to mention -- made a bonehead penalty. And that's exactly what he did. It was a bonehead penalty, no two ways about it. Does that mean he's a bonehead? Certainly not. In fact, given Wheaton's stringent academic standards, the opposite is likely true.

Football's an emotional sport. Things happen in the heat of the moment. Sometimes emotion takes over and a player does something dumb that he instantly regrets. It's part of the game.

You guys just lost a tough game. I get it. I've been there, too. One always runs the risk of setting off upset and angry fans by posting on their board immediately after a loss like that. Guilty as charged. But all I did was state the truth, which is that: a) Wheaton is right there with the two Stagg teams and SJU; and b) the Wheaton kid who scored that final TD made a really bad mental mistake in his moment of triumph. I was the first person to come onto the CCIW board after that game to say that I felt sorry for him. But it doesn't change what happened, and what happened was, again, decisive to the outcome.

Great game.  In fact, as good as any I have seen in person.  I had the pleasure of sitting with my son, who played at UWW and multiple of his teammates; linemen, offensive and defensive from the 09, 10, and 11 teams and you could see the pride in their eyes.   Hats off to SJU, you travel very well and were loud.  Your quarterback is everything you said he is and obviously a great leader.  Even after getting banged up he continued to try to pump up your D and when on the field he made great throws.   This was a shootout.

Ultimately turnovers, as some forecasted, determined the outcome.

Just a great game by two great programs.

I do find it rather curious that I made a statement regarding another poster elevating a team to Stagg Bowl contender status using a "what if" scenario supposing a victory if not for a penalty....and in less than one hour my smite number grows by over 50.  I have posted here for years and have thrown more than a few fire bombs at other posters and questionable teams....And my Karma gets clipped by nearly 27% for that post?  445 prior posts and 27% of my smite comes after I post that.  I want to applaud the weak sauce snowflakes that I offended by questioning the position being pushed by foreign board hijackers.....Pat should be embarrassed by this self appointed board monitor.

Congratulations to Whitewater!

For what it's worth, I didn't smite you. I've never used the smite button before, and I never will.

I also unjustly received -50 karma after defending the MIAC and St John's against the evil WIACwater and North Park hordes (ok that last part is a lie, and the first part is a bit of a stretch) and would appreciate your assistance restoring my karma ratios, for the sake of justice. Although of course karma is also not at all important to me.

A season like this was a magical experience for the Johnnies and one we thought would end in a Stagg victory. It had to! Destiny, just like 2003. It didn't. But also it puts into perspective, as Redtooth mentioned to me earlier, how amazing the runs by Mount and Whitewater were over those years. The Johnnies are an amazing program. Have been for a long, long time. But still, title runs are rare things, fleeting opportunities. The fact Mount and WW year in and year out were winning or getting runnerup remains sort of unfathomable. And while this Whitewater team might not be as overwhelmingly talented as some of those previous ones, it's a great team and would fit in very well with the past champions produced by the Warhawks. Those past players set a standard that's basically impossible to live up to, but credit to Whitewater for getting back to the title game and now being one win away from taking it again.

That last SJU drive could have produced some real magic. Obviously the winning score would have been the greatest part. But Erdmann ended up 28 yards shy of the D3 single-season yardage mark, so that would have fallen on that drive as well (record is 5,068). Alas.

That's a shame. He is one heckuva QB, and he deserves every accolade that comes his way. I've had fun watching him the past few weeks.

Yeah, didn't either till reading the game wrapup on Johnnies' website. A great defensive play prevented that...and maybe a game-winning drive of course too!
