Sigh.  Less than an hour after SJU had been eliminated, a UWW poster graciously made an off-hand comment that there were three Stagg worthy teams meaning that the victory over SJU was a thread-bare thing.  A simple, gracious comment made in victory to the losers.  Oh, no, we can't have any time to come down and let people who were just hyping about a big game have their moment to discuss it.  No, no, no!  We need to hijack the narrative or some other bulls**t.  Well, stick your narrative up your clacker.

And now we sit 24 hours later continuing a huge discourse over when teams are to be included as Stagg worthy.  It's a valid conversation.  But not here and not then.  We just suffered a frickin' heartbreaking loss.  Give us a damned hour, eh?  Let us settle a little, make our comments about the heroic efforts of the teams, etc. Compliment seniors and all that.  And then start this who gets to be Stagg worthy discussion.

Right -- and we're now 30-plus hours later, but you still seem to be complaining about it.

Mighty gracious of your there, Pat.  When you put yourself on a pedestal is it fun looking down at all us little numpties?

I do nothing but compliment you and support your site.  The fact that you feel the need to put the boots in is rather revealing.  And in an unflattering way.

Someone posts a fact.
People jump all over him, including accusing him of something that is mathematically impossible.

Like I said, if I had seen this last night as it was happening, I would have just locked the board, because that reaction was just unfathomable. Understand hurting, but man ... deal with it better than that.

Sorry Oz, but you don't get to decide who posts, when they can post or what those posts are about on this board. Contrary to your belief, this is not 'your' board (and yes, you made a comment about this being your board not too many days ago). You do understand there are people other than SJU fans that can post on this 'public' board, right?

Pretty ballsy calling out a moderator like that, don't you think? You are the one trying to tell people when and what they can comment about. SMH

The only bulls**t is you coming back a day later and trying to justify the actions of a drunken Johnnies mob. Someone made a comment that didn't worship your team in the middle of your pity party and your group blitzed him with ignorance. Rather than just letting it be or manning up and apologizing, you come back and double-down in justifying the comments. That is the real bulls**t.

Being in the very odd position of an outsider looking in, I have decided that I will do what a few other teams fans have done over the years.  IF NCC beats UWW by more than a TD (which I really don't think will happen) then I have decided to claim UMU the #2 team in all of D3 football!  Yah.....I thought it was silly when folks claimed this is past years and it's silly now.   ::) ;D

This is powerful stuff, coming on the heels of the Johnnie criticism of the Wheaton coach postgame interviews.

And if we are talking about degrees of separation of being Stagg worthy we should remember there are 2 pool C's in the Stagg that have each lost a game this season. By that account alone the number of teams that "could have" made it is lengthy (at least 6-8). The reality is that they didn't though. The two left closed out games and earned there place. For a University that prides themselves on championships (even 4 team playoff NAIA Vietnam War era ones) I don't get the handwringing over achieving the title of "Stagg-worthy." Is Josten's creating a ring for that? What happened to pride in that 1 in the SJU logo? Ricky Bobby said it best!

It would be a stretch if it were an 8- or 10-point game, but Keith discusses this very possibility in the second half of today's podcast.

Congrats to UWW and NCC on making it to the Stagg Bowl! You are the best teams peaking at the right moment. It should be a great Stagg Bowl. A lot has to happen to win a National Title and both of you seem to be getting it done. Whoever wins it will be well deserved.

My fellow MIAC comrades and Johnnie fans, you guys had a great team. That team may have been the best Johnnie team I have ever seen (including 2003) but as I stated, a lot has to happen to win a national title. Like somebody said earlier, it just wasn't meant to be. It was a great run by your seniors lead by Erdmann (4 straight playoff appearances). From a competition standpoint, I am glad to see them graduate especially Erdmann and that O-line.

I think what is happening is not a changing of the guard but more of an even distribution of wealth. It is going to be increasingly tougher to do what UMU and UWW had done for so long because there are several more very good teams to get by. It is no longer just a tough semi-final and your in. A Good number of teams have stepped up their games creating a gauntlet of tough matchup just to get the semis: NCC, SJU, Wheaton, UWO, JCC, UST, Bethel, you could probably go 3-4 deep in the WIAC and nobody would want to play any of those teams in the 1st or 2nd rounds. Anyway, the road to the Stagg is getting much tougher and I don't see these teams going away. It sure does make it fun!

In the words of the immortal MUC57 "Go Everybody!"

There were a couple posts that I made that I regret and have removed.

I appreciate that. I don't remember when I called you a hanger-on, but I apologize because we should all be able to feel a part of any segment of the Division III community!

I suspect some are attributing a greater administrator status to Mr Sager than is accurate, and thus reading more into him as an official representative of this site.

I also suspect that Mr Sager's history and reputation (on this board and others) factored into how some of the folks here interpreted his comments, coupled with alcohol consumption and sadness over the end to a solid season.

Pat Coleman

Oh -- gotcha.

No, Hall of Famers are not considered moderators, folks. They're just regular posters who have a couple of administrative privileges, like the ability to clean up post formatting for those posts where the nested quotes get messy.
