I have one word for the 2019 Stagg Bowl : PALINDROME   ;D

That was my thought as they scored the last TD.  ;D

I was glad to see Rutter get the record.

I was glad to see Rutter getthe record as well.  Nothing against Tanney, but the level of competition that Rutter faced over his career is drastically different than what Tanney saw.  A fitting up to a great career.

Reminded me of 1993 and Jim Ballard.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

That name's not spoken here, Coach.

But good comparison. For Johnnies, this year felt like Linfield in 04 with the dominant QB and I thought it'd have the same ending.

In the podcast they started to talk through the top teams in D3. When I posted earlier about this I did not put out my opinion concerning the final order of the top teams. I'll do that now.

1. North Central
2. Mount Union
3. Whitewater
4. St. John's
5. Wheaton
6. Muhlenberg
7. UMHB
8. Delaware Valley
9. Salisbury

As they mentioned when discussing the options, it will be real interesting to see how all the voters see who beat who and by what degree to bolster their position. It is also my opinion that any of the top 5 could have ended up in the Stagg Bowl, depending on who played who in the playoffs. It's been a great year for D3 football!

BEER and fishing work in all seasons!  :)
Mrs57 and I went to the Horsefly Brewing Co. for lunch last Friday. The had seasonal Zoso IPA made with local hops. It was even better than Six Shooter IPA or Peacemaker double IPA which are served year round. Horsefly does not serve catfish however.  :'(

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL  :)

A little holiday poem for everyone. APOLOGIES to anyone left out of the roll call. Tried thinking of as many folks as possible but obviously will have missed countless more. Merry Christmas and happy new year to all!

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through Post Patterns
Not a poster was stirring, not even the trolls;
The MIAC thread was kept open on the West board with care,
In hopes that Touchdown Tommy soon would be there;

The Tommies were nestled all snug in their beds;
While visions of cake danced in their heads;
And RoR in his SJU 'kerchief, and I in my Johnnies cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter's nap,

When there on the boards arose such a clutter,
I sprang from my bed to see what's all aflutter
Away to the screen I flew like a flash,
Clicked open my tabs and hoped d3 didn't crash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow,
Gave a lustre of midday to my screen below,
When what to my wondering eyes did appear,
But a longtime poster, who rarely came around here,

With a What Would Glenn do? shirt that proved he was a Tommie,
I knew in a moment he must be Touchdown Tommy.
More rapid than SJU receivers the posters they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:

"Now, unnecessarily pessimistic 56321! now overly optimistic JamtoTommie, Rev and MIACMan!
On, hockey gal Bennie! on aussie rules lover Oz! on Roney soldier USTBench and the teacher Robert Zimmerman

Now !! :) !!??! :( LOL Chicago Tommie!, now Maryland repete!, now we-still-have-Devean Old Augie!, now fisherman finsleft!
On Judge Johnnie Red! on lawyer Johnnie_ESq, on doctor Kilted Rat, and all those others who have left

Now feisty SJURube and a second Murphy called Faunch, now S. Johnson fans Royals Fan and GoldandBlueBU
On NYCer sfury and old-timer Retired old Rat, On hazzben, who never danced at the school called BU

Now Army's Sagatag Sam!, now long-post Art!, now developing Dusty!, now Tracy's Stanbob!
On Caps gent Retagent!, on Tommie-tweaker sjusection105!, on miac952 and the cheesehead named BlueDevilBob

Now Mr. Ypsi! now Gustie sowilson! Now Linfield cats bluenote and Wildcat11
On soldier kubiack and Bielat-planter Frank Rickard! On the Whitworth Rat whose karma is about minus three thousand one hundred eleven!

Now longtime Cobber Redtooth!, now Ritz72, and fellow lineman Duffman!
On the bookie AO and the Scot called OAS!, on d3 dback Keith and D3 admin Pat Coleman

Now MIAC writer MIACmaniac! Now longlost Willy Wonka! Now Cali's Tmert! Now muc57 and fellow old 57Johnnie!
On Veek! On Chewey! On Lone Augie Backer and where have you gone Red Hot Bennie!

To the top of the page! To the top of the board!
Now post away! Post away! before D1 talk and backup school chat leaves us bored

And then in a twinkling I saw on my screen
The jabs and taunts that TT typed when he made a scene

As I glanced away from the 03 Stagg DVD,
Onto the board stormed Tommy talking of Caruso's stout D

He was dressed all in purple, from his head to his toes
And he said he'd been scared during SJU's lowest of lows

But now his posts--how they glowed! his sentences, how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, and he smiled like when Keating gave Blake another carry!

He ripped off his Tommie gear to show Johnnie red
And he again expressed glee that UST's reign was now dead

A John G bobblehead he grasped tightly in his hand
As he fondly recalled when Pat C said he was banned

He had a broad face and asked Duff about his favored beers
And reaffirmed he was ready to give the Johnnies his cheers

He was funny and caustic, his right old Johnnie self
And I laughed when I read him, in spite of myself

A wink of an emoji and a taunt of his pal Bench
And I knew right then he'd rid himself of that UST stench

He spoke not a word but went straight to his work,
And filled the postings with the occasional words of a jerk

And hitting the key to type his message in all caps
He promised to return to hand out some written slaps

But I saw him type before he went out of sight
PLUS-K TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!

So I didn't have time to do a proper sequel to last year's missive so just churned this out. It's much more Johnnie centric, apologies to the rest of the board, and less creative, apologies to all. But still, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year again!

DEAR SFURY: I am 38 years old.
Some of my Tommie and Cobber and Royal and Piper and Auggie and Gustie and Knights and Ole country club friends say there is no Johnnie Magic.
Retired Old Rat says, 'If you see it on YouTube it's so.'
Please tell me the truth; is there Johnnie Magic?
    TOUCHDOWN TOMMY.
2115 SUMMIT AVENUE, ST. PAUL, MN 55105

TOMMY, your jealous little MIAC friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age and recency bias due to the loss against Whitewater. They do not believe except they most recently see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little privately educated minds. All minds, TOMMY, whether they be Tommies or Royals, are little. On this great board of ours man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him (or even compared to bennie), as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, TOMMY, there is Johnnie Magic. It exists as certainly as Tommie arrogance and Hamline haplessness and Bethel consistency exist, and you know that it abounds and gives to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there was no Johnnie Magic? It would be as dreary as if there were no TOMMIES. Sorry, make that TOMMYS. There would be no childlike faith in the calls of Heckendorf, no poetry like a Jackson Erdmann bomb, no romance like that first trip to Collegeville to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in Tommie defeats and slights. The eternal light with which Johnnie Nation fills the world would be extinguished.

Not believe in Johnnie Magic! You might as well not believe in 57Johnnie's ability to link up his iPAd to a Stretch feed! You might get Retired Old Rat to hire men to watch the playoffs for some Johnnie Magic, but even if they did not see Johnnie Magic in the final game, what would that prove? Nobody sees Johnnie Magic, but that is no sign that there is no Johnnie Magic. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see Concordia try a forward pass? Of course not, but that's no proof that they haven't. Have you ever seen Bethel get over the 2003 SJU loss? Certainly not. Have you ever seen Augsburg win a game that didn't rely on a faulty scoreboard glitch at St. John's homecoming? No! Have you seen Hamline score a point against St. John's since 1994? Please. Did you see St. Olaf force the rest of the MIAC to vote out the Tommies or they'd drop out of the conference and bring a bunch of buddies with? Certainly not. Did we see Carleton come within one Johnnie drive of winning the MIAC 11 years ago? Of course not. Has any speedy former Gustie receiver ever bragged about his virginity on a national TV show? Absurd! Did the Tommies celebrate an MIAC title in a season where their season also ended 1 second after the clock struck zero in the title-clinching game? Don't be ridiculous.

Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the MIAC world.

You may tear apart Dave Lee's mic and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not Ben Bartch, nor even the united strength of all the Johnnie linemen who ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, TOMMY, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

No Johnnie Magic! Thank Gagliardi! It lives, and it lives forever. A thousand years from now, TOMMY, nay, ten times ten thousand years from now, it will continue to make glad the heart of Johnnie-hood.

WOW! A veritable literary masterpiece! This certainly deserves its place among the classics. Should be on prominent, permanent display at the Library of Congress. Let children everywhere be immersed in its knowledge. Let it serve as a guide to wayfarers in every land. Fathers shall pass it down to their children-and to THEIR children -and to all generations.

And a thousand years from now, nay, ten times ten thousand  years from now, this reading will still bring joy to the hearts of gentle people everywhere.

Well, anyway, I liked it! 🏆  ;D
