St. Thomas is recruiting coaches. Former UWW All American Brady Grayvold sees opportunity:

"When they want you to come learn from them and help build something, there aren't too many opportunities like this," Grayvold said. "I think this is a top 15 school in the country that's transitioning from Division III to Division I. I told the kids I wasn't just leaving for a college coaching job, this is a special place to be."

Two things from VOJ's interview with Gary during halftime last night:

1) Some league coach said something about SJU "dropping back to the pack. Who?

2) Erdmann had the "Tua" ankle surgery last week to fix the Chapman game injury that slowed him a bit vs. Wheaton and UWW.

This part is interesting:
QuoteThe Blackhawks were 0-18 during Grayvold's two years as head coach and have lost 19 consecutive games.

Based on the recruiting SJU has done and the kinds of dudes they have been getting, this coach is off his rocker.

Ha. Perhaps Brady was referred by a SJU alum.

Already making D1 offers?

I guess the people over on Cretin Ave are fairly confident the NCAA will give them the green light.

From the time the D3 to D1 issue hit the NCAA's docket last June or so (right after the whole TomToss issue was publicized), I assumed it was a done deal. Those "big deal" type changes don't hit the formal discussion docket unless there's a great chance of it passing a vote. My opinion only of course.

It had been vetted, but at the time of the announcement, inside sources say they felt the shot was closer to 50/50. Since that time, based on further investigation, vetting, conversations with the conference folks (MIAC and Summit), etc, those folks say the odds have improved considerably - maybe closer to 90% now?

While this is a student-athlete announcing the "offer," something like this is usually based on fact. On the one hand, it could be as simple and innocent as:
UST: "Hey, come play for us."
Kid: "Cool. I will do that."
UST: "That's awesome. Oh, by the way, we expect we will be going D1 while you are a student."
Kid: *thinks to self "Hell yeah! I just got a D1 offer!" *opens up smart phone and tweets he "got a D1 offer"*

On the other hand if UST is recruiting kids and saying "we want you to come play, and oh by the way we are going D1 in a few years, and once we do you will be getting an athletic scholarship for your sophomore, junior, and senior seasons," I think that is cause for concern because UST has not officially departed D3 and are still subject to the D3 rule not using athletic scholarships as inducement for recruiting.

Although, "offer" does not equal "scholarship."

My guess would be the conversation goes similar this: "I can't promise you a scholarship, but I can offer you the chance to play division 1 football" "We are one of only two D1 programs in the State of Minnesota"

Kid's these days are announcing "offers" to play at the D3 level, which I'm fine with. Great to see they are proud and excited to continue to play. Playing college sports is an enormous commitment at any level.

Apparently, you're not conceding that it's a done deal? My gut tells me UST knows more than they have been publicly discussing.

MIAC MAN- Remember last year when your nephew got married on the Johnnie-Tommie game? Well, today we received a "save the date" from one of our nieces......November 7,2020. Not only is the the last Johnnie-Tommie football game but, it's also deer hunting opener  :'(

OMG (Gosh)! The kicker was my nephew was a Johnnie football player! Please don't tell me she is a Bennie and/or he is a Johnnie? The deer opener is a deal breaker for me. Hopefully it's not your Goddaughter or something like that.
Not my Goddaughter and she's a proud MN State Mankato grad. He's not a Johnnie (or a deer hunter). 3 other uncles & 6 cousins who are hard core deer hunters I'm pretty sure will not attend. It's in Alexandria, so maybe (fingers crossed) is a late afternoon event.  :-\

105

Can I get your tickets in section 105 for the game if I promise to wear red?  ;D
