From what I've been seeing on Twitter, SJU's Ben Bartch is performing well at practices for  the Reese's Senior Bowl.

QuoteI think we can officially drop the level of competition concerns with St. John's (MN) OL Ben Bartch.  More than held his own at left tackle against top SEC pass rushers like Terrell Lewis of Alabama and Jabari Zuniga of Florida in the first Senior Bowl practice.

QuoteBEN BARTCH (St John's) was IMO the best offensive lineman on the South Team at Tuesday's @seniorbowl practice.  Poised, technical and smooth.  Proud of him as we trained together ... and no, that's not the reason for my high opinion of his his performance.

Love seeing the DIII guys doing well when given the chance!

Indeed!  I always find myself pulling for them when they have a chance at the next level.

When was the last time a D3 O-lineman was on an active roster?  We tend to hear more about the skills players, when it comes to TV coverage...

Matt Gono of Wesley was a starter for the Falcons this season until he went on IR late in the year.

Mount Union announced Geoff Dartt as Vince Kehres' replacement.
Keeping it in the family.

Well, MUC is in the Appalachian region of Ohio so I guess in the family is the way to go.

This clip is hilarious. I call it "getting to know Ben Bartch." Watch through his second go-round.

Imagine if he had seen Bartch's name on the front of the helmet.

Does the MIAC have any plans regarding adding a team to the league for football? Logistically speaking MAC returning makes sense. Logically it would be a nightmare as SJU, GAC, Bethel and Concordia would piss pound them. Maybe the league should expand travel rosters so that teams can travel 5 or 6 deep at all positions. A major problem with that would be travel expenses...how many busses would that require.

Outside of adding a team to the league will there be issues with scheduling a third non-conference game for every team? It's common knowledge that SJU has had difficulty scheduling non-conference games....I mean what middle level or lower D3 team wants to play them?
I'm sure that Bethel, SJU, Concordia and a resurgent GAC could pick up games w/ WIAC teams.
But SJU bringing in Aurora and traveling there the following year will get expensive...I doubt many MIAC schools want to have two trips like that a season.

I'll hang up and listen....

Oz Oz Oz....sigh.  Every time I brag to my wife that I have this "cool friend" from Australia you pull one of your "Oz being Oz moves."

1.  GD is LK's SON-IN-LAW so all is legal in the world that is "Ozland".
2.  Appalachia is at least 15-20 miles away from Alliance Ohio so I think the "Harvard of Appalachia" would be more appropriate.
3.  Mount will now continue/take the next step in their football dominance.  Welcome/never left/will still be..."WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!"

Ha!  Now that was a good chuckle.  We need more chuckles this off-season.

+k sidekick. Especially like the "Harvard of Appalachia.

In the 70's the SJU president liked to refer to the university as the "Harvard of the Pines."  Didn't stick, thank goodness.

Surprising the "experts". If Ben shows well in the game he could be a middle round pick. That is amazing and he's a humble kid from a great family.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

How come nobody ever talks about Northwestern (Roseville) joining the MIAC? They seem to me like the best potential fit. They have a great little campus with very nice facilities. Athletics seem to be one of several priorities. It seems like they should get a formal invite.

If the UMAC schools with smaller budgets can manage to make 2 or more trips to/from Illinois and Missouri in a season, I think the MIAC can figure it out.  I can certainly understand wanting to schedule closer games if it's possible, but I don't think it's a budget breaker.

Thanks for the attention, but I don't see this happening unless there are more dominoes to fall besides St. Thomas.

It's true the focus has been on St. Scholastica in talks around here but Northwestern has improved a bunch of outdoor facilities in the past five years and would be a decent add from that perspective. Plus, they have won NCAA postseason games in men's basketball and in volleyball (perhaps others, but those come to mind).

Agreed that bus travel from MN to Chicagoland shouldn't be considered a big barrier.
