I've got mixed emotions on this move to U.S. Bank Stadium. On the one hand, I would have loved to see this go down in Collegeville. The rivalry started in St. Paul and it would only be equitable and fitting to end it in the heart of Johnnie territory.

That being said, the incredible logistical hurdle that would have had to be cleared to make the game work in Collegeville would require nothing short of a miracle.  The rivalry now has double the national exposure with the Toms leaving the MIAC. I don't know if it would be possible to bring in enough temporary bleachers into the Natural Bowl to make it work.  Although, part of me thinks it would have at least been worth the attempt.

It looks as if this game will easily surpass the Target Field game (37,355) and has an excellent shot at beating the 2019 Cortaca Jug game at MetLife Stadium (45,161).

Just because I'm not getting my ideal outcome doesn't mean I'm going to sit this one out. I'll be there in Minneapolis to try and will the Johnnies to victory.

Reclaiming our rightful throne atop the attendance records is a bright spot for me, even though I don't like the move....that, and it'll make getting tickets easier

And, despite not being in Collegeville, I expect the atmosphere to be electric, which will be excellent my first time to U.S. Bank Stadium.

On another note, Johnnie-Tommie could be going head-to-head with the Gophers and the Boilermakers (depending on the kickoff time).

Just got the e-mail from alumni relations:

"U.S. Bank Stadium will be an incredible venue to host this historic game," said an intermediary speaking on behalf of the ghost of SJU head football coach Gary Fasching '81. "We want everyone to be able to see this final game in one of the great rivalries in all of college football."

I kid. I kid.

For at least part of the game anyway.  Very unlikely they'll play a night game.  It'll be 11am or 2:30.

Well, it makes it easier to visit some friends in the Cities, I suppose. First lights and now this. I don’t like it. But I don’t don’t like it enough to miss. Almost assuredly the place will be filled to capacity, which is just under 67k.  The Johnnies may fund an entire half of their season, maybe more, with their take from this single game.  I can obviously see the persuasive financial and logistical arguments for this. I can also see that US Stadium wouldn’t have been possible if the tommies hadn’t made the leap to big commercial venues the last two years.  I still wish it was at Collegeville even if the campus can’t handle the crowd and the weather could be ugly in early November.

I'm selfishly hoping SJU gives the relative handful of season ticket holders (compared to US Bank capacity) first crack at tickets.  Seems only fair . . .

The average price of a Vikings ticket last year was $190. I wonder at what discount from that this game will run?  Half?  I imagine the stadium will give SJU a fixed, guaranteed payout and then handle the pricing themselves as SJU people would have no way to judge pricing elasticity in these circumstances.

Well, it will be an utter sea of red. That will be impressive.

Look, if this game finances an improvement in the video broadcast then I can swallow my pride and ride on the money train.

My biggest regret is that we forever lose the argument that the Tommies are greedy money gougers who exploit the Johnnie Army for crass, financial gain. Obviously, the Tommies are and will forever remain empty, soulless voids but this nice argument has been destroyed forever. Although it is pleasing to think that the biggest game, likely the biggest two or maybe even more games, the Tommies ever play will be back against a pissy little D3 school.  The fact that 25 years from now when fresh Tommie recruits are considering the school and looking at the 1500 average attendance with a wistful look on their face when they wonder what it was like back in the old days against the Johnnies will be so, so pleasing.

That is not only a reasonable position, but the only sensible position, in my opinion. People with season tickets are some of the biggest supporters out there. If you don't let them have first crack at tickets, I don't know what to say.

It looks like general ticket sales on Ticketmaster will take place in March, so I would hope the season ticket holders get a week or so head start.

I don't think you can get too crazy. Half the cost of Vikings tickets may be too aggressive for an average. I could see suites and other premium areas going for a ton, but regular seats will need to be lower, especially if you are trying to attract some casual fans to fill the place to capacity.

I know it's been less than six months, but how much were tickets for the game at Allianz?

I'm thinking $40-$60 to sit in the lower bowl, $25-$30 for the upper deck (assuming they are even sell upper deck seats right away).

I paid $20 per at Allianz (maybe a little more after fees) and about $25 per at Target Field. I didn't get the lowest bowl tickets though. I suspect at US Bank, they'll try to fill the lower bowl first and then open up the upper?

Boys of Fall

Maybe I'll bring my laptop up to Collegeville and stream the game from my seats.  Naw......... wouldn't be the same without hearing "open your programs to page......." between seemingly every play.
