In other news, I took advantage of not being allowed to leave my house and spend 28 hours this weekend repainting my kitchen cupboards and putting on all new hardware. Saved myself a ton of money by doing it myself. Probably cost myself a ton with impending Chiropractor bill for being bent over cabinet doors as I pained them  :P

That's what it felt like at time Oz

Another great story by Frank on three Johnnies doing some awesome work out here in NYC. Although they kind of make my contribution to the NYC effort -- eating, watching old sports games, working from home -- look a bit underwhelming. Still, thanks for being here, fellas.

Canh Tran was a student in my AP Psych class at Apollo.  Thanks for sharing the link.

Anticipating that there will be D III football this year

I am with you 57Johnnie. And I see the Devils have St. Olaf coming to town on September 5th so as is my want I invite any STO posters that would like to venture into Wiscy for the game to be my guest. Just send me a PM and it'll be my treat.

Having said that I'm not sure we have any regular St. Olaf posters? I know we have Texas Ole but I presume he is in Texas.

Maybe there are more, if so take me up on the offer.  1 hour east of downtown St. Paul.

Thank you for the invite.  As the name suggests I am in Texas.  That is also the dove hunting season opener which feels like an official holiday in the state.  I am planning on heading up for a few games this year for the first time in way too long.  I have a musky fishing trip planned at the end of September and am probably looking for a little steelhead/salmon on the Brule.  I am trying to convince some other Texans that this is a trip worth doing.
The spring steelhead season on the Brule is open right now.  :)
Do you think they are keeping a 6 foot distance?  :D

Always loved the Brule, Great river. The Duluth paper always covered the spring opener well. (Certainly, better than CSS football, at least.)

Trump just said (I think, was only half listening) that he's spoken with the NFL about opening the season and playing with fans in the seats.  Let's hope that is on because if the NFL is playing then so are the Johnnies.  So are the Tommies, I suppose, so it's not all roses but still better than nothing.

The NFL is organising a draft by video conference. It looks like Bartch may have some good news this year. Let's hope his good profile holds up.

And the article mentions the NFL is planning to play the season with a delayed spring training. Fingers crossed.

When do pitchers and catchers usually report for NFL spring training?  ;)
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

Well, it's starting to break down here. People are getting sick of the stay at home measures (and losing their jobs and life savings) when only 48 people in the whole country have died of the virus and the recovery rate is running better than 50:1, for every person who succumbs to pneumonia from this bug, 53 are recovering.  And that, of course, is just for those people sick enough to be tested.  And only 2% of those being tested are coming back with 'rona, the other 98% having some other bug.  So patience is starting to run very short.  The overwhelming majority of infections, over 70%, are directly traceable to international and cruise travellers who entered the country improperly when the govt failed to enforce/follow it's own travel and quarantine rules. The bureaucrats aren't covering themselves in glory.

On the good news side, Denmark, Austria and Norway have announced they are starting to relax stay at home measures to various degrees including reopening schools next week or the week after, depending on the country. Even Italy announced they are looking to reopen now but haven't given timings yet. Australian politicians are particularly stubborn, a$$-covering weaklings so they will stay locked down for two weeks longer than anyone else despite the Australian health system barely being inconvenienced by the bug, the whole purpose of the lockdown in the first place.

The straw that may have broken the camel's back here was when the police pulled over a 16-year-old out practicing driving with her mum and gave the girl a $1600 fine for unnecessarily leaving her house.  The premier soon intervened and dismissed the fine to prevent pitchfork and torch riots but then said they would continue to hand out fines to people learning to drive.  Mindlessness rules the roost at Parliament House and soon must give way to better sense.

Anyways, here's hoping the US soon eases restrictions, particularly outside of NYC so that the rest of the world feels safe to follow and do the same.

A couple of points:

NYC may have already maxed out - the numbers seem to have plateaued or even begun to decline.  But other hot spots are still sky-rocketing - e.g., New Orleans and Detroit are still climbing and may well pass NYC on a per capita basis.  (In Michigan, Governor Whitmer is hopeful that we'll turn the corner in late April/early May, but predictions are still iffy.)

OMG, I sure hope the rest of the world is not looking to the US for leadership on this!  Memos recently leaked from the White House that as early as January they knew how bad it could get, yet they were still down-playing the whole thing well into March - not JUST publicly (which was bad enough), but doing absolutely nothing to get equipment ready.  The result has been dozens of first-responder deaths, due to no protection.  Aside from China's early (and continuing?) cover-up, and Brazil's total dismissal of the whole pandemic, the U.S. has probably had the WORST response of any major country.

I think you should ask the folks in Italy or Spain or China if they agree with you.  I don't think we're in a position yet to judge who had better responses or not, to be honest.

Agreed. Still too early to tell and the size of the US means that different states have vastly different measures and outcomes, although this may just mean that other areas could become hotspots with future waves when preventative measures are eased up on. At this point, it seems safe to say that Spain has been hit hardest unless you ignore the per capita numbers for whatever reasons.

When it's over what we will probably see is the hot spots will have a number of things in common, namely large public transportation networks and direct flights from China in December and January. New Orleans with Mardi Gras and multiple spring break destinations will also be transmission hot spots scattering the virus across the country. One example of many would be the U-W Madison fraternities and sororities that road tripped to Nashville then to Gulf Shores, Alabama and then back to Madison.
Every live is precious and of the approx. 330M in the USA hopefully the loss of life will be small. The University of Washington has downgraded the projected USA loss of life down to 60,500 from the original estimate of 240K. Let's hope the projection keeps going down with every week of new data.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Well, a check in. How's everyone going living like hermits?  57's?

I'm bouncing off the walls.  I'm fortunate to be working from home but my mental stability is taking a battering.  I'm quickly approaching this point.

I'm thinking that the collective work from home productivity is taking a dive and soon will fall off a cliff.

Like I mentioned in the email, I am rereading Worship and Work-3rd edition. I like it better than the first read.  :)
Not looking forward to Holy Week/Easter without church. :'(
