Interesting.  I wonder how many more of these types of non-local,  non-conference games we'll see cancelled?

Any inkling if it will be made up by another non-conference game? It wouldn't need to be, but it sure will look odd to see the Johnnies "down a game". But who knows, maybe many of the MIAC teams will have "short schedules" this year.

Yeah, I'm not sure. Was the cancellation initiated by Whitworth, SJU, or both? I wonder if some of this is owing to how hard the NW has been hit by COVID or as you wonder, if we'll see a similar contraction of non-con games across the board.

The North Star Athletic Association (NAIA) cancelled all its NC games which left 4 WIAC schools (Stout, EC, SP and LaX) looking for games on Sept. 19th. Don't know if there could be any schedule rearranging but a WIAC team would be a good way for SJU to fill out its schedule.

Johnnies and BlueDevils are less than 150 miles apart.
I doubt BDB would have a problem with that game.  :)

I can tell you that is likely to happen at other conferences as well (as noted in the above post per palum. Our MIAA's tentative plan for coronavirus safety protocols and gradual return to full team practices encompasses a five week period. If approved (possibly that jas already been decided at last week's league meeting, although no official announcement has yet been made), that takes us past the season opening games of Labor Day (Thursday night) and Saturday. Those games will be cancelled and not rescheduled.  Hope's first game is @ Anderson College, which likely will not happen.

There is so a rumor that the league is considering limiting the number of players who can dress for both home and away games i.e. adapting NCAA limits for playoff roster sizes. If that happens, there will be a lot of very unhappy people, including both players and parents.🙄☹️

Somewhere in the range of 100%, give or take.

So, Pat, do you know something that the NCAA is promoting concerning long distance games? Or are the individual schools making these decisions without input from that direction?

Only that many?

I wonder if BU's game vs. North Park is in Jeopardy?  Or if they get super conservative, the game against Plateville too?

I'm talking about games that involve flights with that 100% number -- I don't know about bus trips, but I do think many conferences are going to end up only playing conference games, if any, this fall.

Yeah, was wondering about the NC schedule. Aurora@SJU  is a bus so fingers crossed. I had been planning to spend as much of the fall as I could working from the cabin so I could hit Collegeville on Saturdays. But like everything else, it's iffy.

And a possible road season opener in Moorhead if the Aurora game is nixed.

Retired Old Rat

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that the MIAC will cancel all fall sports. There were 50,000 new cases today. I don't think I'm going out to far on that limb.

The OAC (Mount Union, et al) will play a conference only schedule in football, soccer and volleyball. That means football will play 9 games. Play begins 9/19. Cross country, golf and tennis will play  outside competition. FWIW. 🏈 ⚽️ 🏐  ::)  ;D

Yeah, putting the odds of a season somewhere south of me kicking a 50-yard FG.
