National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.  A classic.  Speaking of that film, NL's CV 2 was on TV here last night.  I refused to watch.  How could it be anything but stupid?  And a stain on the legacy of the Vacation series?  Like Caddyshack II was to Caddyshack.

"Bumbles bounce!" ?

Oz, CV is a tradition in my house, every year after Thanksgiving dinner and many cocktails, my entire family watches it.

CV2 was awful.  Don't waste your time.

Merry Christmas to all.

Any other interesting stories out there about when we were kids? Here is mine. I can't remember exactly how old I was, probably five or younger. I wanted to play fuel delivery man so I got a water hose out and stuck it down the pipe on the outside of our house that led to the fuel tank for the furnace and filled the tank up with water.

A short time after that my parents tried to start the furnance. As one might expect, it did not ignite. A repair man was called and my parents were informed about the water in the fuel tank. After some interrogation, I came clean and confessed. :'(

And the rest is history..... I guess, Johnnie Red a seat on the bench was just meant to be.

Let's get our teams back in the hunt,................. another St. Johns vs. Linfield battle would be great.

Happy Holidays everyone!
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Tuxguy, it would be great to play Linfield again, especially in McMinnville. Keep your fingers crossed for next season.

This morning on KQRS they were talking about an autograph appearance that Paris Hilton was scheduled to do in Hollywood. Evidently it was scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and there were something like 500 people waiting in line to get her autograph. She showed up around 4:15 p.m., signed autographs for about fifteen minutes and then left. :-[ I'm anticipating it might be tough to get her to Collegeville next fall for a tailgate given this experience.

Still think SJU coach John Gagliardi is a one hit wonder?

After winning the 2007 Liberty Mutual Coach of The Year Award for Division III,  it appears as though his fans can't get enought of Coach Gagliardi. Without fanfare and endless promotion, Coach Gagliardi is again a finalist for this year's award.

AO.......I don't know anything about Haugen other than the article you posted, I do know Brownie, and GAC passed on a very good and deserving man.

Still trying to puzzle out this selection. Simply looking at the resumes of the 2 finalists, seems like it should have been Brown. Haugen has limited college coaching experience, coached in a mediocre HS conference,  and more importantly, no proven track record as a college recruiter. Also, compare this hire to the recent HFC hires in the conference at Carleton, Olaf, and Hamline.
That said, I wish him well, and I hope he has the full support of the college president and some help from the admissions department--something I don't think Coach S. necessarily had.

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

To expound on this a bit, all the GAC football alumni I've spoken to since the hire — numbering about 20ish — are baffled by the decision to skip over Brownie for someone with such an unproven collegiate track record. The fact that he's a Bethel grad, when the president had apparently stated his goal was hiring a former Gustie, just adds some fuel to the fire. Frank is especially upset because he might not be able to wear his "Bethel is bad" shirt to any more games.

Here's what a buddy of mine had to say after his father, also a GAC alum, did some digging.

"GAC is forcing brownie out of football in any capacity and relegating him to only a teacher. he made it sound like it wasn't even an option at all for brownie to coach once he didn't get the job. he thinks that Molde hated the offense that we had been running and thats why brownie didn't get the job. also, he's pretty sure that it took so long because the new president thought that we could pull the current wartburg coach after they lost in the playoffs, but obviously that didn't happen."

I'm not sure any of that is true...but it's sure a F'd up situation for Brownie and his family. And I'm disappointed with the way Molde and the president strung along Brownie as long as they did — he was a proven commodity in St. Peter and I'm pretty sure nothing surfaced in the last two weeks to turn the tables one way or the other. If you knew you didn't want him, cut him out of the search immediately rather than crushing his dreams at the end of the process.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

If I am not mistaken, Brownie has been there for about 18 or so years.  The offense they ran certainly had to approved by the head coach.  Brownie made a real impression with me when I visited there with my son, an impression about GAC, and all the good things that coaching is supposed to stand for.  If what you say is true and he has been forced out it would be a real shame and I am sure many alum and players will rethink their loyalities.
