God Bless you Brother Dietrich, I was thinking about you at mass Sunday morning.

One of my pleasant memories of Brother Dietrich was sharing a late night meal with him at the Roanoke Waffle House around 1:00am prior to the 2003 Stagg Bowl.  Priceless!

Though I'm hardly a spokesman, I want to thank all non-Johnnies for your kind words. Very nice thoughts from Ralph Turner and others. I guess it's obvious what we thought of the man, who like many good men, passed out of this life too young.

esq, you've captured his essence well. Thank you.

If it is any condolence, "memorable men never die, their lasting impressions on the people around them last forever and are passed on from generation to generation."  Words of comfort that my parish priest, Father O'Conner gave me when my father passed several years ago.

It is really nice to see how the SJU community supports their school other than just in football or other sports.

My condolences to the St Johns community.  Though I don't know a thing about the man it's obvious from the posts here that he was an important figure for all of those who call themselves Johnnies.  It's heart breaking to lose someone like that.   May he rest in peace and his spirit forever grace St Johns.

I echo Snoops sentiments, my father, brother and friends who have passed are with me every day.  God bless to all the SJU people who were touched by this man.

I am neither a Johnnie, nor a Catholic, yet I am a former D3 football player.  With that connection, I am inclined to highlight a great point of the stories I read here after the passing of Brother Dietrich and it is what makes this man and D3 sports so incredible-  At the D3 level, the players are not 'owned' by the respective teams they play for.  Instead, the players come to own the school that they so passionately represent.  That ownership held by each D3 athlete comes from the numerous great people that are involved with at these institutions of higher education.  It seems that Brother Dietrich was just such a man.  A man that loved the university that he called home and a man that gave each student that knew him, whether athlete or not, a reason to be incredibly proud of their school.  In no way detracting from Brother Dietrich, but rather pointing out, that we as D3 athletes are so fortunate that we have the time, at all of our respective schools, to get to embrace our entire school and are able, due to the lack of 100% athletic requirements, to meet such great men and women, and through them, become better humans.  Brother Dietrich embodies all that is right with people, and it is such a fortunate blessing, for those of us that play or have played D3 sports, that we are afforded the time to meet such individuals, so that we too, may hopefully become a reflection of them.

My thoughts and prayers are with Brother Dietrich and those that knew him.  I thank him for helping to produce such great men on the SJU campus.  Godspeed, Brother Dietrich. Best wishes to all of the Johnnie's on this board and around the world.
Out of order, I'll show you out of order! You don't know what out of order is, Mr Task! I'd show you but I'm too old, I'm too tired, and I'm too f----n blind. If I were the man I was 5 years ago, I'd take a FLAMETHROWER to this place. Out of order, who the hell do you think you're talking to?

Retagent re: The Vikings;

Yes, jackson has good stats the last few games, but even his win was a nail biter against second stringers.  So he may have all the athleticism in the world but I don't think he has the presence of a leader. He is surrounded by great talent but opponents don't fear him. When he is in fans and other teams believe the Vikings are very beatable. I think they are percieved as less beatable with Gus behind center.  Unfair?  Oh well.

(PS - 3 and a half hours until mid-night in Oz. Dunno if I'll make it until midnight.)

I have bounced back and forth on Jackson.  The two good things I have seen recently are his arm strength and accuracy on mid-range passes.  The arm strength was always there but the accuracy seems improved.  What I'm not clear on yet is how well he is seeing the field and his anticipation.  Both of these can improve with time and hard-work.  So, right now I'm a slightly positive on his future.  I would give him another year before bailing out.

Is one of your New Year's wishes that Claude Lemieux will move up to San Jose so you can watch him again? ;D

SUMMIT!!!!!

Jackson will never be more than a mediocre NFL quarterback, in my opinion. Which in itself isn't bad... what IS bad is when the coaching staff (especially the head coach) and the media (especially the Senile One and the Round One) attempt to convince fans that he is or will be a cross between Montana/Unitas/Marino/Elway/Tark(without the scramble).

As long as Chilly remains in charge of things, the Vikings will be moderately successful (make the playoffs, lose in first round) to lousy, but will not sink to Detriot-level of putrid.

It still wouldn't shock me if Ziggy drags the team to LA and the hope of a bigger/better bottom line. The Metrodome lease expires in a couple of years, and he has 0 loyalty to the area, infinite loyalty to his pocketbook. (Hmmm...maybe Bill Sexton could lead a consortium of locals to buy the team?)

Happy New Year to all...and belated Christmas wishes...may your 2009 be filled with joy & happiness, and may the MIAC champ win the NCAA title in December!

Just something to point out. I believe that 8 out of the 10 Vikes wins this year have come with Gus at the helm. Is this correct?

That being said I have the utmost confidence in the Vikings and the Purple Faithful to get it done on Sunday afternoon. Go Vikes!
