If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

It's as embiggenable as it can get, I'm afraid.  A Google image search on the lass's name, however, may make your eyes pop out.  Best to wear some safety goggles if you attempt such a search.

SECURITY ALERT

Security in downtown St. Paul will be at the highest level since the RNC as the President and the Mayor meet for some fast-paced hockey action. Joining us for pre-game bevvies in the undisclosed bunker will be Lbean. In the event of a security breach, Lbean will be in charge until order is restored and the proper chain of command can resume. If Lbean takes a hit, then Flash will take charge.

Security provided by Lbean was tighter than Niklas Backstrom's net-minding, as the Prez and Yourstruly were able to enjoy the game unbothered by any molotov cocktail wielding Tommies, Royals, Scots or other Ramsey County ne'er-do-wells. Very nice accomodations in the Presidential Suite!

What we have here, is a failure to communicate.

How can monks under a vow of silence perform Handel's Messiah?

Haven't checked these boards for awhile, but just wanted to drop a line to say I've started blogging about MIAC sports. I'm out of work for 6-8 weeks after surgery, so the posts have been a little long for those not following the basketball scene.

But I'd suggest checking this out if you want to get a good laugh at former GAC legend (in his own mind) Ryan Hoag.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Look, I know the weather thing well cooked, but today was special.  It got up to 47.9C (118.2F).  40 minutes later?  30.6C (87.1F) and still falling.  It will be down to 23C (68F) in about another 30 minutes.  Crazy.

Not as crazy as Les Freres de St Francis de la Sissies, however.

EDIT: In case you're wondering how this can happen, it's actually a pretty common occurrence (although today was extreme - it's the highest temperature ever recorded in Melbourne).  What happens is that a high pressure cell will camp over Melbourne and another high pressure cell is up floating over the middle of the Red Centre and the hot desert air gets pushed onto us and we cook.  Then a low pressure cell coming up from the Antarctic eventually breaks through the high pressure wall of hot air and in flows coolness like switching on the air con.

On another note, last week the wife took our dog (a long haired collie cross - hair normally about 4 inches long...) to the dog barbers and asked for a trim.  We get her a trim in the summer, primarily shaving her stomach, to help her keep cool on the really hot days.

Well, they shaved her alright.  I was so made I almost spit.  Now I only walk her after dark because I'm afraid folks will get a good look at her.  Poor girl.

You were made alright.  But shouldn't you do that a little earlier in the summer anyway?

OzJohnnie

Yes, it was a bit late. Not sure why.  And I was spitting mad, not spitting "made".

Devastating tragedy in Melbourne last night and today.

The weather yesterday, and the dramatic cool change I mentioned has lead to the greatest natural disaster in Victorian history.  Currently 84 are dead numbers are rising fast.  The hot spell caused a number of arson lit fires to flare to an amazing temperature, barely controllable by the country fire brigades. Then the cool change came, and with it fierce and sudden high winds.  Sheets of fire took off faster than firemen could drive to keep up or than emergency services could phone ahead and tell people to run.  Entire country towns have been burned to the ground and police and army have circled them allowing no one in.  Estimates are for well over 100 dead, but everyone is pretty scared right now for an unimaginable disaster.

My wife and I are sitting here watching the news in disbelief.  Crazy indeed.
