Terrible stuff. When I was a kid I met a survivor of the Hinckley fire, which was not far from where my family farmed. Still remember the look in his eyes as he talked about it.

I see that Drudge is linking to the PM's characterization of the arsonists as 'terrorists' and he's also linking to a crazy mullah's call to set forest fires.  Drudge's implication being that we're overrun with jihadis and that the PM is calling them out.  Very sensational and also very untrue.  We have plenty of the traditional firebugs here that we don't need to invent any.  The charity of the community in dealing with this tragedy (166 dead as I wake this morning) belies Drudge's characterization of Aussies as a gaggle of bigots looking for the closest excuse to hatch our evil discriminations.

And that's what I have to say about that.

I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Nice blog, WW.

We seem to have a number of members with medical issues.  Prayers and best wishes to Adam and to the rest of you (you know who you are).

Well wishes to Adam.

Some pics from Melbourne that I found interesting, including one that Mrs. Oz suggested I post.  Now there is a first: Mrs. Oz suggesting I write something to my "Johnnie friends."

There was a house yesterday that is was hard to believe made it through the fire.  How about this one?

And how hot was the fire?

And, lastly, from Mrs. Oz.

That's easily the saddest photo I've ever seen. Such a tragedy.

What a heartbreaking photo.  All my thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies go out to you, Oz, and your fellow countrymen.  Hoping that this tragedy ends soon!

Why is the guy giving the big rat a drink of water?
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

My sides haven't hurt that bad from laughing since I was a 12-year-old watching my cousin pee on an electric fence.

In a follow-up to the photo, the manager of the animal shelter that is caring for this particular rat says it will live, along with a large number of other burned wildlife.  All of which is good news.  But that wasn't the most interesting fact to come from the interview.  The woman's name is Colleen Wood.  And, yes, her family are Collingwood Magpie supporters.  Talk about animal cruelty.

Mrs. Oz sends me a further link on the Koala here.  There is a video of the event where the fireman, apparently a really dinky-die country Aussie, is talking as he gives the Koala water.  I can't watch the video at work, but Mrs. Oz tells me she had tears rolling down her face as she watched it.  So, click if you dare.

(And I told her of your comment, flash, and she said,  "shame on him."  You never heard a woman say that before, have you?)

A friend sent this to me and this board seemed an appropriate place to share it! ;) ;D
