Fins......sounds great.  Was the water rough?  the Pacific side can be a nightmare some days.  Where did you stay?  I havn't been there in 20 years and I understand it has been built up quite a bit.  We used to stay at the Solimar and the Finnestera which are now probably two of the oldest places there.  Were you on a private charter or a hotel charter?  Hope you had a great time, I am jealous.

Next fall I will have my boat in La Paz, and we will be fishing the Sea of Cortez.  I hear it is unbelievable, we will see.

Just found this (it's also reportedly featured in the current Newsweek) - a place in LA for the MIAC crowd.  Please note the dress code. 8)

That dress code would pretty much knock my wardrobe down to the one suit I have to wear to weddings and funerals.

Water was pretty calm. I own a couple of condos right on the marina with a group of Minnesotans (which we rent out when we're not there  ;) ;) ). If you haven't been to Cabo in 20 years you might not recognize it. Hell, in the year since my last visit, a lot has changed. It's not the sleepy little fishing village it used to be.

Is the ice off lakes north of the Twin Cities?

OFF?? Their putting extensions on 3 foot augers just to get through the ice up here. Cars & trucks still driving on the lakes on a daily basis. Last night was one of the few nights we have had where we weren't making new ice.
I fly any cargo that you can pay to run
The bush league pilots, they just can't get the job done
You've got to fly down the canyon, don't never see the sun
There's no such thing as an easy run

Fins ...you provide the condos, I provide the boat and fishing gear, beer is cheap, sounds like heaven. ;)

Last night SJU Interim President Dan Whalen and his wife presented a "Heritage Edition" of the Saint John's Bible, which retails for a cool $145,000, to the Diocese of Oakland.  The presentation took place at the Saturday evening mass at the new Cathedral of Christ the Light.  Abbot John Klassen and two other SJU monks were also present and participated.  Afterwards there was a SJU reception afterwards.  A very nice evning.

Why Oakland?  The Whalens are Oakland residents.

Anyone read the story in the new SJU alumni magazine about Denis McDonough? He's one of Obama's top foreign policy adviser's and a 1992 grad. He's in charge of strategic communications for the Natonal Security Council.

He was a "hard-hitting safety" on the football team from 89-91, teams that went 28-4-1 during that time. He credits Dietrich Reinhart for sparking his curiousity in the world at large and Gagliardi for "firing his sense of competition."

I don't think the magazine's online but check out the story if you get it.

One of the big minuscule issues I have living in Oz is spelling.  See, they tend to follow the British lead for English spelling, but not always.  IT tends to be dominated by American spelling, but other business areas, and general usage, tend to use the British spellings.

I bring this up because I'm currently providing services to a large chocolates and candy manufacturer that has a couple different lines of business.  The candy business is referred to as "confectionery" and my tendency is to spell that word "confentionary."  Senseless to raise, I know, but I found it interesting.

Not all is difficult with the British spellings, however.  They also tend to use an "s" where Americans use a "z" such as in "organisation."  The advantage here is in touch typing.  Trying to get your left pinky finger to bend down and accurately hit that "z" key can be frustrating while using the ring finger on the "s" is much easier.

Now for the real thing that lead me to posting today: congratulations to Minga Batsukh on winning the national championship at 141 lbs.  He's only a sophomore.  Novak may be building quite a team.  Also, congrats to the Bennies on making the final 16 in the hoops.

How much longer do we have to wait for the so-and-so said they would attend the such-and-such MIAC school?  The grid iron doldrums are starting to drive me batty.

In other news Mrs. Oz and I managed to get out and see a movie.  We viewed Gran Turino (correct spelling).  I found that despite the predictable storyline that the characters were engaging and the use of the young priest as an effective plot device in adding depth to Eastwood's character was engaging.  Heavy movie, but enjoyable.

So how desperate do I appear to drum up some sort of conversation?
