Uff-da.

I guess if anyone was wondering if OleHog74 was the real deal or not, that question has just been answered.  :)

Oz, was it lager that created the level 3 or more likely terp and grog?
I'm liking this Aussie lingo!

Edit: pig's ass I don't get.

I've been Down Under since Dec 26, 1993.  Long enough to pick up a bit o' slang.

And right now I am fair dinkum (genuinely) rooted (f'ed).  I've been flat out like a lizard drinking this past week (flat out = busy, like a lizard drinking = really busy) and I cut loose on a Thursday night.  Bad idea.  I felt like I was oozing piss (beer, it took me a while to get comfortable saying "I was on the piss") as I rode the lift (elevator) this morning.  Thank goodness that my 8:30 client meeting this morning was a phone call and not face-to-face.  I'm sitting at my desk and just want to crawl under it like George Costanza and go to sleep.

Pig's ass...  I'm not sure where it comes from, but I think it might be a vulgarity added to slang for emphasis.  A "porkie" is a lie.  Porkie is slang for "pork pie" which is rhyming slang for "lie."  Anyway, that's the usage.

One last thought on Aussie lingo.  Watch this raw news footage to see a Sydney girl that has become a bit of a sensation over the last week.  She's describing a shooting up at King's Cross (very red light district in Sydney) on Monday.

Best bit is that she also does accents.

HJR,

Let me guess, you sentenced him to four more years in Northfield! ;D
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

That would be cruel and unusual!  Might as well give him the chair.

OleHog74, welcome to the board. We will have to get you up to Collegeville on October 24 when the Oles come to town so you can partake in the Stiftungsfestivities.

Speaking of Oles, I just had an Ole grad in front of me in criminal court for sentencing. :-\

This feels a little bit like piling on but the coincidence is just too much as it's apparently a bad week for Oles in the criminal courts.  I had to help a client this week respond to a subpoena in a criminal matter involving a charge against St. Olaf's grad who wanted a woman he met in a bar that very night to do a bit more than she pleased.  Guess he was in a hurry.

Welcome to the board, OleHog.  I am puzzled, though, as no one has brought up the Florida pipeline yet. 8)

Anyone see the story on the d3football front page about USTD's spring football game?  They're doing a "foreign" trip - to Cananda! - which allows them to have 10 spring practices in full pads, including a spring game.  Quite a deal for them.  Looks like Caruso is intent on stealing everyone's candy next season.

OleHog74

To me, that just seems like an unnecessary injury risk.  Will 10 full pad practices and a inter-squad scrimmage in the spring REALLY make your team that much better in the fall?

Plus, from my perspective, St. Thomas hasn't had a problem with physical talent, their downfall has been in football technique, which is something that can be worked on without going balls to the wall in spring practices.

Anyone see this physician interview on CNN?

Q: Doctor, I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true?
A: Your  heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it.  Don't waste them on exercise.  Everything wears out eventually.  Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend  the life of your car by driving it faster.  Want to live longer?  Take a nap.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies.  What does a cow eat?  Hay and corn.  And what are these?  Vegetables.  So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system.   Need grain?  Eat chicken.  Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable).  And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable  products.

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?
A:  No, not at all.  Wine is made from fruit.  Brandy is distilled wine, that means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain.  Bottoms up!

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?
A: Can't think of a single one, sorry.  My philosophy is: No Pain. Good!

Q:  Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A:  YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!! .....  Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil.  In fact, they're permeated in it.  How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?

Q:  Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?
A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be  doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.

Q:  Is chocolate bad for me?
A:  Are you crazy? HELLO - Cocoa beans! Another vegetable!!! It's the best feel-good food around!

Q:  Is swimming good for your figure?
A:  If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.

Q:  Is getting in shape important for my lifestyle?
A:  Hey! 'Round' is a shape!

[Interviewer, turning to camera] Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about  food and diets.

And remember:

'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved  body, but rather  to skid in sideways - chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a  Ride'

And for those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies.

1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
5. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

CONCLUSION:  Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

Hmmm ... Sounds like OleHog is channeling John Gagliardi.  ;)

What was the name of that Doctor?    Dr J?  Dr Vinnie Boombatz? Doctor Denton?

Thanks tmert, it's the 8-week anniversary of a surprise angioplasty and stent so I'm swapping that Memorial Day grilled salmon for a ribeye.

I'll probably share with this with the oldsters in my cardio rehab crew, but don't know how they'll deal with it. They don't see the joke when the workout music is Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky" or wonder if the Stones' "Start Me Up" has to do with the defibrillator on the wall .. .

OleHog74

Just got back from watching the Twins pound the Brewers, good lord they show some signs of being great.  All they need is consistency and its another WS ring for MN!

BTW...Cuddy-Bear is BACK!!!!!

Well, I'm not a doctor, and I don't even play one in the Navy (he's either too busy enjoying San Diego to spend time on the board or else his wife took away his posting privileges), but I like to do my bit for anyone in rehab. ;)  Hope you're doing well; bet that ribeye tastes good.

Have a good weekend, all. 8)
