Hey TMerton, I am going to be in your neck of the woods in November.  Can I stay at your house?

Sure - as long as you don't bring your dog. 8)

Anyone believe the Tommies will actually match up to the hype?

If anyone wants to spot me 7 points, I'll take St. Thomas to beat St. John's this year.

I'll spot you seven.  Beer and pride at stake.  If I see the Johnnies lose to the Tommies by 7 or more, I'll come back to Oz and eat a wichetty grub.

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Greetings from the Iowa side of the border!

I'm taking a long weekend to the Land of the Sky Blue Waters starting tomorrow, and have a trip to Collegeville to check out the SJU campus planned for Saturday.  Any Johnnie alums or locals have suggestions on things to do in Collegeville or on the trip there?  I'm definitely planning on stopping by the football stadium, and maybe finding a gift shop/bookstore to buy a souvenier to prove I was there, but other than that, my day is pretty wide open.

Thanks in advance.

I can't believe that nobody suggested driving into St. Joseph for lunch at Bo Diddley's.  My favorite is the combo sub w/ everything.
Back on campus I would recommend picking up loaf of Johnnie-Bread @ the Great Hall and just taking time to walk around the campus.

The SJU football kickoff love-fest was enjoyable yesterday.  I gotta believe we're the only DIII program to have such an event.  It was great to hear that Coach Fasching and D were out on the recruiting trail last spring.  I made sure to let Fasching know that his visit to Hopkins High was noticed and appreciated.  With Haugen and Fashching in charge of the defense I'm confident that the Johnnies will have a fighting chance in every game.
The offense has a lot of holes...I think I heard they have only 2 senior starters returning.  The offensive line is the biggest variable in the Johnnie-football equation.  I believe the backfield has the talent and there always is plenty of  guys that can catch the ball.
It needs one or two players to step up as a play-maker and lead them both on the field and the sidelines.  The best Johnnie offensive teams have had players that are able to make "adjustments" on the field and have earned the confidence of the coaches to audible and call their own plays.  Their going to need to keep the defense off the field and score more points than last year.

If it had been a question and answer format the question of the of the day would have been asked of the Johnnie offensive coordinator.  He stated (I'm paraphrasing here) "that back in 2003 the team had a lot of holes to fill too." I watched virtually every game that year and a number the year before and am left to wonder;  Exactly what holes did the Johnnies need to fill?  They had recently installed Field Turf so he couldn't have been talking about divots on the field? Maybe TC was right and they were concerned about the 5th string scout QB?
