John was on fire at the luncheon yesterday - a video of his remarks can still be seen if you go to the story on the Daily Planet website.  I wonder if his reference to STU "still" giving athletic scholarships will hit any nerves down at the end of Summit Avenue, but it certainly is interesting how they managed to give that fantastically talented quarterback a full ride.  Even better was when he explained that he tells the team that when they are playing STU all they have to do is keep it close and the Tommies will find a way to screw it up at the end.  Last year, he said, was just a classic example of this.  "Most of them are Irish," he said, "they just get excited."

   Honestly I think that's a joke. Yes the kid got a scholarship, but obviously it's not athletic, you think UST (Not STU) would let him talk about a completely illegal scholarship to a reporter? Really? St. Thomas for years has been trying "diversify" it's campus and they actually have a scholarship geared towards minority students that pays for tuition and room & board. I think if you took a look at past award winners, you'd see that only a small percentage of them are athletes. Also if you want to point fingers...how many kids at SJU pay the full $34,000 or whatever it is to go to school there? I'd have to imagine that there are a good amount of athletes there who can't afford that and do what they can to get the price knocked down.
    I think it's kind of ignorant to say that the kid doesn't deserve the scholarship he got because he's an athlete. Something tells me if you look at Morse's grades, it's not like he's a dumb athlete stealing a spot from someone who deserves it more, it's more like he's a good kid who gets a chance to go to a good school.
   Finally, I can't even believe John would say the stuff he's saying about UST in front of a room full of people, even the oldest coaches understand that it's better to be coy, then to give a team bulletin board material...kind of shocked he took the Lane Kiffin route.

**Side note: I love Lane Kiffin, so I guess I'm not really mad, just more surprised about Gagliardi's comments than anything.**

John's been giving other teams bulletin board material for years; look where it's gotten them.  Did you miss the part where he reminds his incoming freshmen that STU/UST/whatever hasn't beaten the Johnnies since the kids were in first grade?

The great thing John did was plant that nagging thought in the minds of all Tommies - How are we going to screw up this year?

The Tommies will be good this year; heck, they should be given their size, location and other advantages - like full-ride "diversity" scholarships (spin that however you please).  They might even get fans to show up for a game other than the one with SJU.

BTW, Lane Kiffin is an idiot.  Figures a Tommie would like him.

The image of Sam the koala holding hands with Country Fire Authority (CFA) firefighter David Tree and sipping from his water bottle in the aftermath of the Black Saturday bushfires was beamed around the world as a symbol of hope in the days following the disaster.

Sam's bushfire injuries had healed but the four-year-old animal was put down on Thursday during major surgery to remove cysts associated with chlamydia, a life-threatening disease that causes cervical infection and has ravaged Victoria's koala population.

The poor little under-evolved rodent.  Gonna make me cry.

And just to point out the sorry state of our world... The death of this animal and the stuffing plans were announced at a press conference called by the friggin' state Premier.  The ******* governor, for God's sake.  Good golly.

no I'm still over here in the cesspool.  I have a feeling this is going to be my home away from home for quite a while.  On the plus side I get 84 days of vacation a year and about 75-100K of frequent flyer miles.  Bonus... I will be back in the states before the first games kick off on the 5th... yea.

A Scottish soldier in full dress marches into a pharmacy to speak to the druggist. The Scot opens his sporran and pulls out a neatly folded cotton bandanna, opens it to reveal a smaller silk square which he unfolds to reveal a condom. The condom has a number of patches on it.

He holds it up. "How much to repair it?" the Scot asks the pharmacist.

"Six pence," says the pharmacist.

"How much for a new one?"

"Ten pence."

The Scot folds the condom into the silk square and the cotton bandanna, places it in his sporran and marches down the aisle and out the door of the pharmacy. A moment or two later a great shout goes up, followed by an even greater shout. The Scot walks into the pharmacy again and back to the pharmacist.

"The regiment has taken a vote,"the Scot says. "We'll have a new one!"
