WTF...those are football pictures. Nobody cares about that, where's the tailgate pictures?
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

I agree, congrats to both SJU and the Cobbers.  Both teams have a hard non-conference schedule, and both won yesterday.  I think one of the premier games of the year, like usual, will be when they play each other.  I know you Jonnies are looking for payback from last year and Cobbers need to keep a better winning record at home (an area in which they struggled last year).  Both defenses are very impressive, as it was last year.  I predict another low scoring game, best of luck to you SJU you always have a great shot, but us cobbers will be trying to ruin it  ;D

Interesting Conference in terms of history.

Having a family history of many members of the same family playing at one school, or the flip side, having a name that shows up on many rosters, like Beeson at St. John's last year and Beeson at St. Thomas this year.

Having coach Rambler coaching at Carleton and being a former all american at St. Johns.

The rivalry and history is amazing.

I am looking forward to attending a St. John's game this fall.  Which would be the top two or three to attend? It seems like St. Thomas is a must.

I'm not sure it qualifies me to "lawfully wed" couples, but I happen to be the presiding Chaplain at Eagles Aerie #622. One of our bartenders actually paid his $50 to the state and is officially licensed to preside at weddings. He did this so he could marry some friends, and he's gotten several referrals from his 1st gig. Says he can make more in a half hour than a whole night bartending. Of course, (other than me) Eagles patrons are not known as big tippers.
Think I might get me one of them there licenses and would be happy to have my first wedding take place at the tailgate. Any takers?

For those of you that might be interested, Mr. Thumbs himself will be tweeting on Twitter tomorrow. Follow the action on www.twitter.com/finsleft

To sweeten the pot, if the wedding takes place at the tailgate, we will get the exchange of vows on the Johnnies Football radio network...would be great if we could aim for noon on the exchange, regardless we would get it in...

I'll get the pickem graded this long weekend and then post games early next week. Probably Tuesday night, since I'm traveling and have a client meeting Tuesday.

VOJ: I am thinking you and Wooderson along with Carbo and Bryan should be doing ALL the pregame shows from the Johnnie tailgate.  Are there logistical concerns?  Could be a golden opportunity to capture the game day atmosphere for your loyal listeners...

5 Words-

I agree.  Concannon is an absolute TRUCK.  I thankfully never had to absorb a hit from him in practice, but he has a highlight reel that is chock full of demolished ballcarriers.

I was very surprised at how one-sided the game was.  I think Luther came out a little flat and had they played the first half like they did the second half, things might have been closer.

Even when we had our high-powered offense under Coach Meidt and Matt Penz, the Luther game was always very close.  This was definitely the largest margin of victory in recent history.  I give a lot of credit to Coach OJ for getting the guys prepared, and especially a lot of credit to Haberman, he clearly has built on the lessons he learned last year and is a much better QB for it.

Best of luck to the Norse in the rest of the season!

As I'm sure you have noticed, the d3football.com poll is out and the Johnnies are at 11.  Other MIAC teams receiving votes are UST(D) at 20th, Concordia just out of the 25 with 64 votes (and impressively knocking Willamette from 8th to unranked) and Bethel with 8 votes.

Big games this week include:

Bethel hosting #5 Wheaton
SJU hosting UW-EC (with 43 votes)
Auggies at Wartburg (with 19 votes after being dumped from the rankings)

Some pretty stiff interconference matchups.

Sorry everyone for the ball dropping on my part in regards to the pick-em's this year.  Thank you Smedindy for stepping up and taking it over.

Yeah I was quite surprised that Willamette dropped clear off the table and is now behind us in votes. They're still a good team, they just sputtered against the Cobber defense. I wouldn't be surprised to see them win out now.

I visited Cobber Country over the weekend. Watched Chad Worthington (former DB) trying to get CC football updated while also performing his Best Man duties, then ran into Jeremy Hindercks (former FB) at the reception.

As an aside, who gets married on the first Saturday of football season? At least the the guy let us go to Hooters for his final meal as a single man, I guess...

Made we wonder what might have been. Would Pace and I have been the biggest, whitest, slowest starting receivers in the nation if I'd followed Papa Wonka to the frozen tundra? Would SofaKing have jumped on *MY* bandwagon for these boards? Would my wardrobe be all maroon right now? Would TDT still be stalking me? All interesting questions...
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.
