Another hypothetical for you Wonka,

Would GAC have made it to the 'ship had you gone "Up Nort"?

OR

Would GAC have won the 'ship had you been a Cobber?
If you don't want to, you don't have to...

Or did I just make a mistake referencing the sport played with the round ball of which we do not speak on the football PP?

QuoteI wouldn't be surprised to see them win out now.

I would.

I voted for them to be the team most likely to lose Saturday.

Oh, it's so nice to be able to talk football again. Welcome new Cobber posters! Thanks for a few inside scoops from Moorhead. The Cobber football webpage wasn't as detailed with camp developments this year...probably for the best. I wanted to revisit a couple issues that have been raised on the past few pages.

How's the Cobber offense after replacing all the so-called "skilled" players? Apparently good enough to eat it up as much as needed against a tough Willamette D. I think a lot of people forget that Concordia does maintain a JV schedule. "New" seniors to the starting squad DO have game experience with the intricacies of the offense. I'm sure the hardest piece was QB, since Larson was playing D-Back for the past couple of years. It appears he will be fine.

Who will score? I'd like to say with the O-Line, anyone who gets his hands on the ball. I'm sure the "go-to" guy will emerge, perhaps as early as next week. It may be Larson himself. When you live and die by the option, it may even be beneficial to have a more balanced attack (I'm talking among the offensive backfield...not likely to be run/pass balanced...ever). I think this offense keeps the opposing defense on its heels more if there is more balance in the running scheme.

Well, "hi" to all the tried and true posters. Be true to your school! Looking forward to another classic SJU/Cobber showdown just around the corner.
If the human brain were so simple that we could fully understand it...we would be so simple that we couldn't.

So, the big questions are: will the D get swinging and was the O's performance an accurate picture (at 28 points)?

My beloved Hawks have all the talent in the world and are defending champs but missed the play-offs due to a "She'll be right, mate" attitude.  By the time the got hungry it was too late and they were too far behind.  Gunderson's statements after the game comfort me but I think the team needs and absolute blistering game on D without the mental mistakes.  There isn't a lot of time to gel and other teams aren't standing still.  I reckon the boys are up to it, butwe'll see.

On offense, it was really exciting to see long scoring plays and the performance under great pressure.  I hope that is the standard on the offensive side of the ball this year, but I remember our game against UW-RF last year where we looked like the country's premier running attack.  A similar performance against UW-EC will be a much more indicative benchmark of the team's standing.  Although Boyle tossed a great game of almost 300 yards, he did it against an undersized WIAC team and under a lot of pressure.  I expect that EC will offer a much higher standard and will be a better test of our Johnnies.

So, I guess I am thinking that I'm pretty hopeful, but remain cautious in my hyperventalating (unless Tommies, Royals, Gusties or Oles are involved, of course).  And with that... Go Johnnies!

I'll get the pickem graded this long weekend and then post games early next week. Probably Tuesday night, since I'm traveling and have a client meeting Tuesday.

Sorry everyone for the ball dropping on my part in regards to the pick-em's this year.  Thank you Smedindy for stepping up and taking it over.

Not a problem. It's fun.

I just posted week two. Some close spreads. And I totally guessed at how good Valley City State is (sounds like their graduates then work at Value City Furniture??)

Oz,
They'll be fine. The first couple of games always freak me out too, but John has been doing this since before you or I (and everyone else, except '57) were born.
After a film (yes Pat C. I said FILM, not video  :D) session, they'll get the kinks worked out and things will improve every week.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

They'll need to play better.  No offense to River Falls but EauClaire figures to be a better team.

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Funny start to an editorial n today's Australian Financial Review:

The guy across the street from me is building a huge brick wall in front of his house, which is fine by me because the house is one of the ugliest pieces of architecture I've ever seen.  And in Sydney, that's saying a lot.  Sometimes you think the city's architects were people who couldn't get work unloading the convict ships and they've kept the jobs in the family.

Tuned in the Johnnie game towards the end of the first quarter while tooling around the lake in the pontoon with a cooler of beer  ;D  I almost shut it off at the half.  Wow, it sounded ugly.  Thankfully, I stuck with it.  Sounds like some good half-time adjustments were made.  Hopefully, the rust has been shaken off and they'll look more solid from here on out.

Another radio-listening week for me versus Eau Claire.  VOJ, how's the North Shore radio coverage?  I think I have listened from up there before, so I should be fine.
