Duff- I agree. When was the last time we fans were not concerned with the offense? '03? And I can't remember in the last 10-12 years that we fans were worried about the defense.

I'm curious to know how everything thinks the SJU/Concordia game will go on Saturday? I've watched the Cobbs play twice now, but haven't seen the Johnnies.

Initial thoughts are that it should be a one-score game. Both defenses look solid, and I'm unsure about both offenses. Both teams have been tested early, Concordia with #8 Willamette and SJU rallying to beat 2 strong schools from the top-ranked conference in the country.

The key to this game will be who decides to hang on to the ball the best.  In 2 games, SJU has fumbled 8 times, losing 2, with no INTs. CC's fumbled 8 times, losing 5 of them, and has 1 INT. SJU Defense has forced 4 fumbles, getting 1 of them and has an INT. Cobber Defense has forced 7 fumbles, getting 3, and has 4 INTs.

If both defenses continue to be stingy (which is likely), it could manage to look like last year's 9-6 game. If either team gets sloppy, though, it's a carp shoot.

I'll give the Cobbers the Vegas version of a tie: +3.5 pts.

I'd love to be up there...but made it up for the CC/Willamette game, and don't know if I can swing another trip.
If Concordia can throw efficiently it could be a big game for the Cobbs. 8 different guys caught passes last weekend and they've got 3 or 4 that will be steady all season. The running game is still there, whether people think so or not. Always will be there.

Looking forward to a big day for both teams. The Jake is gonna be rocking.

Someone from Cobberville,

Does the Freshman beanie tradition live on and if so are they still wearing them for the game this Saturday?

It lives on. But they only wear them during orientation week. But you never know, some may make an appearance.

This is an odd poll, since there ultimately be 4 correct answers......

VOJ;

I haven't said it yet this year (very remiss of me), so I'll say it now: this has been a great year in the broadcast booth.  It's tough to talk to something as complex as a football game, but I gotta let you know that I'm visualing really well.  FYI, I'm floating above the field like thos Matrix cameras floating on the wires.

Can I be bold enough to make one request?  If it comes to mind durig a home game, a short discription of how big the crowd is and where they are (particularly the sea of red) would be interesting.  Looking at the photos at johnniefootball.com and a couple shots with crowds in the background sre really full of character.  A short mention of the 12 Johnnie on the field, so to speak.

Thanks again for keeping Johnnie faithful far and wide hip to the Magic(tm).

BDB,
The cobber freshmen are supposed to wear their beanies throughout orientation week until the football team scores the first touchdown at home!  Since they scored 3 Td's versus Williamette there is a chance no one will have a beanie on.  Who knows, I might wear mine!

Does anyone ever get text messages from numbers you don't know and just screw with them by writing a rediculous response?

THere is a good chance I will not be making it to MIck's office this saturday, hopefully I will find some of the johnnie faithful after the game on the field.

My freshman year at Olaf for an entire week I kept getting voice mails on my phone from some guy named Phil who was telling his co-worker Sam that next week's meeting had changed locations.  He obviously didn't think to wonder why he was reaching the voicemail of someone named Paul.  After 5 days of this I finally called him back and told him that whoever Sam was, he wasn't getting the messages about the meeting.
If you don't want to, you don't have to...

Best wrong number response in history?  Watch the first 25 seconds on this Danny Devito clip from Ruthless People.  Warning, may include concepts not suitable for children...

Glad you have enjoyed the broadcasts...I will try to be more descriptive(especially at home) of the Johnnie Nation and where they are and how many there are...hopefully we will have a strong contingent on the road this Saturday.  We had a great crowd at UWRF, so much so they ran out of water and food at the concession stand.

Do me a favor and tell 56321 to lay off on the commercial issue on the in game update board.  What he might fail to understand is, if we didn't have those sponsors, his Saturday would consist of staring at a blank screen and empty speakers or calling the press box every 5 minutes to get an update from someone there...I TRY to get back as soon as possible so we do not miss kickoffs and have asked the MIAC for a MINIMUM of 90 seconds between the exta point and the kickoff, but because the rest of the MIAC does not operate the way SJU does, they will not climb on board with the idea.

They are also still in the dark ages with regards to recruiting conference sponsors.  I remember the WIAC having media timeouts during conference games(one per half, I think) where they would read a few messages from sponsors of the conference to the captive audience/crowd.  There is a chance for revenue to be made and help defray the costs of the various schools for the conference offices and their overhead.  Alas our pleas for advancement have fallen on deaf ears.

For my next soapbox subject...if the Scots can play UST and other MIAC schools, get back in the conference where you belong...this "Notre Dame" mentality(without the network) where they can decide which conference sports they can compete in has gone on long enough, this is not the Big East and you are not stealing millions from NBC so get back in the league and TRY to compete...

MIAC football is better without Macalester.  The opponent's winning percentage would clearly decrease for all of the MIAC schools and therefore lessen the chances at an at-large bid for the 2nd place MIAC team.  If you add MAC do you eliminate a non-conference game?  The Johnnies have definitely benefitted from playing two WIAC schools.

As has Concordia for playing a then top-10 team from the West Region, and a scholarship program.
