If you want to hear bad commercials, try listening to the games on WLOL 1330.  It's rough!

From western Colorado I get the program on my Mac and it's a godsend.  :)
What commercials?  ;D

Does anyone know if the Stagg Bowl takes longer to play than it would if it wasn't on televison?

I do have strong feelings on the subject, as TDT notes.

First off, the Johnnies' radio crew is tremendous.  Way more insightful and easy to listen to than just about anyone else in the state.  Ever try to listen to Dave Lee from WCCO call a gopher game?  Painful.  You can never tell if the Gophers just sacked the QB or gave up a 70 yard TD.  Mark and Bryan and the crew do a great job of making you feel a part of the crowd in Collegeville even though you aren't there-- and that is a rare skill.  Are they homers?  Yes.  And they should be.  It's OUR broadcast!!!

I wasn't aware that the MIAC was the sticks in the mud on the radio issue.  I understand why-- and there is no blame to go around then.  But for every action there is a cost, unfortunately, and we listeners pay it there.  But if that is the only black mark on the radio broadcasts-- and in many ways I think it is-- that's  a dang good thing for us.

My beef is with the overcommercialization of the games themselves-- not just the radio coverage.  The programs, the stadium, the PA announcer calls-- even the concessions-- are too "Big Time" for me.  I would prefer they sell scoresheets for a nickel and carmel apples for 50 cents-- just to keep the feel of old-time football going.  Is there a need to make money?  Sure.  But at what cost?  Selling our souls to the dollar instead of honoring our tradition?  So what if Best Buy doesn't buy ads-- I'd rather see the Collegeville Credit Union's sponsorship anyway.  The Johnnies are already big time in the hearts of our fans-- we don't need to pad our ego by getting sponsors like Orville Redenbacher.

Does this poll at the top of the page annoy anyone else as much as me?  Is there a way to get rid of it?  Pat?

Duff, is that better?

I'm surprised that anyone can go in and modify the poll?

VOJ and others:

I think the broadcasts are terrific.  As someone who has depended upon them for the last three years, going on four, I think they are as good if not better than many Division 1 programs.

As a parent whose son played for several years on mostly the kickoff coverage team, I was the one who voiced frustration over missing the kickoff due to commericals.  I understand the issue, and if nothing can be done about it I'll happily settle for what we have now.  Just one question, though - would it not be possible to have slightly shorter commercials for football season (e.g., 25 and 50 second commericals instead of 30 and 60)?

Now, as for the crap in the stadium, it definitely does diminish the experience of attending Johnnie games.  I've talked to a number of people who would gladly donate to have commercial free games.

It's easy to ignore, Duff.  I don't notice it unless someone calls attention to it.

Well that would be a good way to shorten the breaks, but as part of the Johnnies Package the sponsors also get a schedule on the Bear which is satelitte and relies on somewhat precise timing for the commercials as they fill 3 or 4 minute windows.  So while shortening these ads would help in one respect, other issues would be created.

Make sure you tune into Football Weekly tonight, it is streamed on the website, its tonight from the Stonehouse Tavern and Eatery...7pm central time until 8...we will have Mike Trewick and Dominik Haik on from the Js and Sartell head coach Jon Ross on as our high school guest...start with the J's wrap with High School...

Is that the same Sartell coach that used to yell in Duffman's ear hole?  ???

That's what bugs me most.
If it makes you feel better, I do not have the power to modify or create a poll on this page.  I'm able to create polls on other topics here, so either I was banned or don't have enough posts.  Either way, thought you'd be pleased.
