d3football.com rankings are out.  Johnnies remain at #6.  Tommies move up to #17.  Cobbers drop out and only get a few votes.  Bethel also receiving just a few votes.

I knew we'd drop out of the top-25 but I didn't think that far. A top-25 team losing to a top-10 team usually doesn't result in that much of a change. Oh well, rankings don't play the game.

I reckon the Cobbers are the only team with a shot of being #2 out of the conference into the post season.  Cobbers win out and they are in.  No one else will win out as they still have to play the Johnnies... :)  If Bethel win everything but their game against the Johnnies, then they are unlikely to make it as a two loss team - but maybe.  The Tommies will lose at least three this year (J's, Royals and Cobbers) so they are missing the extra time most certainly.

Exactly--if the Cobbers win every game the rest of the year, they'll be national champions.  If they don't, they won't be.  That's the nice thing about D3.

Has Deadspin seen the Cobbers 2009 Football "poster" in CobberFvr's signature yet?  Because I think they'd love it as part of their Awful Team Photos collection.  I'm not saying it's awful, I just think that they'd think that most people think it is.

It would have been nice to see the Twins sweep the Tigers today, but they really needed to take at least 2 of 3, then go on the road and take care of business.  I'm headed to Chicago for the three games this week.  I really hope I don't see the season die.

I'll be by mid-afternoon tomorrow for brats and brews, Zip.  And if the Twins lose, we'll have a ready-made excuse:  Kofoed!!!

Is anyone else getting a little bit excited about this St. John's offense?  2008 must have really scarred us!  I still think the defense is going to step up and win a big game for SJU this year.  Going to Concordia and pulling away from the Cobbers in the second half is a pretty impressive performance for a team essentially starting a high school secondary and missing a half dozen running backs.

*****

Clark, you know Jahvid Best personally?  Would it have killed you to put in a plug for St. John's?  I'm not saying he would be an every-down back or clear starter in Collegeville, but I think we could have used him a bit this week with everyone injured.

*****

The Johnnies' vanquished foes didn't do much to uphold the honor of St. John's this week.  UW-Eau Claire needed two OTs to beat Hope and UW-River Falls only beat Northwestern by 3 points.  Northwestern lost to IIAC also-ran Simpson by 4 TDs the week before and Hope won 3 games in 2008 and is 0-3 already this year.  I expected both UW school to roll in those games.

When the official participation report rolls out later this week for the game at Gustavus, expect TC to be listed as "questionable".

TC-bring your rain gear to Chicago, brats, beer and rain. I hope the Twins sweep. BTW, the Cubs have a nice outfielder you guys can pick up in the off season and he has experience in the American league. Who is this "Kofoed" guy? :)

I take it from the team picture that it has something to do with corn but just what is a "Cobber" anyway?

So, I think the real question is, how was hoopla Mick's Office?  As I was listening to the game, doing yard work, and enjoying my fair share of brews, I was daydreaming about the $3 pitchers  ;)

I texted with Leon Clark after the game on Sat.  He hurt his ankle and went in for X-rays today.  I haven't heard what the results were, hopefully just a foul sprain that won't keep him down long!

My hats off to the Tommy D-line.  I have spoke with several people who were at the game and they said that the LOS was firmly controlled by UST.  They must be much improved over last year.

Now on to Auggie Tech!

I think both were suffering from from the malady I like to call "Johnnies hangover"  you get up for the J's and the next week its tougher to focus on the job at hand.  That or the J's showed Hope to to exploit the UWEC D and Northwestern is a little better than we think they are?

Anyone know when the UMAC will get an automatic berth into the NCAA tourney?  Is it next year? Or 2011?

cobbernation

Going back to the Johnnie/Cobber game on sat.  Did anyone find it odd that only 2 penalty flags were thrown all game?

Freebird,
Are you going to be around this weekend in Arden Hills?  Should be a good game with bu.  By the way, is Flannery working on his Ph D at Bethel?  He has been a running back there since 1985 when the bears won the superbowl!

They are who we thought they were!  The 2008 Northwestern squad was possibly better as they beat the Falcons at River Falls last year.  A pool B bid is probably out of the question, but I don't think any of the other pool B contenders are playing someone the caliber of the Tommies the last game of the regular season.

It's 2011 for the AQ.

Odd?  Not really...two well coached teams playing good hard clean football, yes the hit on Boyle was late while he was out of bounds, but I think it was a case where the cobber player did not realize where he and Boyle were at the time.

Pool B for Northwestern?  Not when you lose to UWRF anywhere, and I have to think since you are higher on last year's team, the 41-0 monkey stomp you took from the Tommies shows EVERYONE you are not ready for primetime, much less the NCAA playoffs, this year next year, possibly anytime before the next millenium.
