The Ten Network runs the clock old-school where it runs up, not down, and you don't know the time remaining.  Frustrating.  The run down until there is five minutes left and then run up.

The Seven Network has entered the late 20th century and run down to zero.
Oz,
I sure don't know a thing about Aussie Rules but it must be a rough game. I read a review and it stated that in the 2nd quarter alone, the Saints kicked 4 behinds.   ;D
Even bennie would say that was going too far in hockey ..... considering the skates  :D

At three quarter time the Saints are up by seven.  The rain and awful conditions really limited the effectiveness of the Cats although the had the most of the play in the quarter.  It looks like the last stanza will be a nail biter...

Rain....in The Land of Oz... I thought you guys were experiencing the drought of the century, what gives?

As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Just wrapping up a dinner party.  The last of our friends just left and it's 12:06am.  I swear she's trying to make me miss kickoff...  As if marrying me and pacifying all my manly tendencies isn't enough, she's goota try and steal all my Johnnie glory as well.  If I had any courage, I would say something about it to her.

GO JOHNNIES  ;)

I'm off to a commitment that shouldn't be scheduled during football season.

At the half the Johnnies are beating on the Gusties.  Let's hope they keep it up.  Go Johnnies!

While I have a couple minutes, here's the FoxSports highlights for yesterday's Grand Final.  This should give you a view of the physical contest.  Good win for the Cats.

Nice showing by Hamline today.  Good to see some things never change

GoldandBlueBU

Very solid game for BU today...29-10 W over the cobbs.  Concordia definitely didn't help themselves out...lots of turnovers (I showed up just before the first half ended and saw 2 lost fumbles and 3 interceptions so I'm not sure about the rest of the first half).

Hopefully everyone is healthy and ready to go for SJU.  Should be a fun one.

OleHog74

Oles win but they looked less than impressive.  Only 9 net rushing yards is pathetic, especially against Auggie Tech.  True, Leon didn't play at all, but still.

Their pass defense looks completely anemic at times, and its not just that guys are getting open, but when we DO have them covered, our d-backs can't seem to make a play on the ball!  I fear that better teams will torch us all day long.

That being said, a win is a win...kind of.  All that matters now is kicking the crap outta Carleton.

On another down note for the Oles, starting center Drew Penz went down in the first half with an ankle sprain.  I spoke to him today and he will most likely not play against Carleton, but hopes to be back in time for Bethel.  This is a HUGE loss for the Oles, not only for his blocking ability but for his on-field leadership.  Like many good centers, he was the commander of the O-line and I know they will miss him next week.

Wonka,
Does GAC have a mathematics department? Two cases in point.
First, I arrive with my wife & we pay our admission of $5.00 each for two adult tickets, should be $10.00, right? I give the young lady (I assume GAC student) a $50.00 & she smiles and kinda looks at me like why am I still standing there with my hand out? I say " I gave you a $50.00" she replies, oh, I guess you did, I thought it was a $10.00". Okay, simple mistake. Then we move to the concession area, and the young lad helping me scribbles down my items & looks at the big board and comes up with a total of $7.00, which is actually correct, but I give him a $10.00 and two $1.00's- with a blank stare he says "it's only $7.00, so the $10.00 will cover it." I reply " I gave you the two $1.00's so that you could give me a $5.00 for change", with which I get another blank stare. The priceless part was another worker in the concession stand watching this understood what I was trying to accomplish and just rolled her eyes & shook her head as if to signal that she indeed is surrounded by idiots!

Well, that was a pretty good game for the Johnnies.  Other than the opening Gustie drives of each half, the J's D looked pretty strong (only a couple bad breakdowns in the secondary).  About five 3-and-outs in a row for GAC.  The offense seemed to be a little off from the previous weeks, but Boyle still racked up some good numbers and the running game got it's 195 yards.

So, let's hope both are firing for next week against the Royals.  They'll need to be their best.  It should be a heck of a homecoming.

EDIT: And a big thank you to the Gustie AV department.  I really appreciated the good quality streaming video that let me watch the Johnnies in action.

In particular I would like to complement the guy wearing the white shirt and tie (very snazzy for a Saturday) who ruffled papers incessantly - very important work to do.  And also the guy working the camera in his Gustavus Adolphus sweat shirt.  Good moves there, bud, but you need a bit more practice before you reach Michael Jackson level.

FYI - When the cloud cover comes over, your reflection of the booth window is so clear that you are almost recognizable.
