Retired Old Rat

Pretty weak talk coming from the left coast this afternoon.

Hoping for a rematch so we can settle it on the field.

Unfortunately, I'll be missing Fleet Week yet again.  However, the Angels are currently practicing overhead as I type this.

Hmmm ... I wonder if the noise is distracting Tiger and the others over at Harding Park?

Guessing that if SJU wins out and so UWW, SJU has the #2 seed, so Lindfield would have to play at SJU and that would be very, very difficult for Linfield.

Looks like Hamline has a video stream for Saturday's game:

I kind of enjoy listening to the Johnnies broadcast crew call the play on the radio,
and then know exactly what to look for on the video feed.

Well there is a lot of football to be played before all of the discussion about seeding, but the NCAA set a precendent a few years ago by moving Mount Union to the East, and UWW to the north and clearing the way for another highly ranked team to be number 1 seed in the WEST...hopefully they would be willing to do that again as the STRONGEST REGION in the country continues to have a tremendous number of quality teams.

Hey  TDT my man--You may call it a cruise--  I call it a man tour of Canadian Sports bars.  throw in some time at the floating casino and BAM  thats it.

As for our Cats VS SJU  yes we are  0-3 but there are some out here on the left coast that say your buys were a no show in 04.  As for this

year we have to go one at a time with a big game at Willamette.  After that we can talk about putting together the master plan for some

MEGA tailgate action.

See ya down the road my man.  Oh yea and my Dodgers are up 2-0

Another Friday with no football talk...Ok I'll give it my best shot:

CCM v UST:  People can say that UST hasn't beat anyone good (and they haven't), but that doesn't change the fact that they are undefeated and have not had any close calls (except for the Olaf game, but I think Olaf will be a lot like last year, except this time they won't blow it against the Johnnies).  UST will win by 10 or more.  They're D is perfect for stopping CCM's offense, with the best run stopping LBs in the MIAC (OH! did I not annoint Wimmer the best LB in the country??? My bad.)

SJU v Hamline:  This won't be close, maybe for the first half if the Johnnies have a hangover from Saturday night still, but it will be over quickly.  I know Hamline played a lot of teams close last year and return a lot of their players, but in all of those games, teams just played that bad against them.  Johnnie players do have some class (I said players, not fans) so I would expect them to go off the accelerator some and maybe a 40-9 win or so.  But it could be more if they want to.

Carleton v Auggie "to mny weapons for Carlton" Tech:  Auggie Tech's offense is still decent, but not nearly what they were, and their D is just as bad as last year.  Carleton is improving each week, and this is a big game for them.  It's possible they slip and take some steps back, but if their heads are right, there is no reason they don't win this game.  And their O-line is still very good.  Carleton by 10.

Bethel v team that doesn't have the goat:  Actually the game that intrigues me the most.  People keep talking about Bethel and Pool C, but they have to win out and this is a bit of a trap game.  Olaf improved a lot last year right about this time, and after getting dismantled last week, they might have something to prove.  Leon Clark is really that good and if he's healthy now, he can take over a game.  I don't think he gets enough help this week though.  Bethel will pull this one out barely because they have help around Flannery.  Bethel by 4.

One major difference VOJ: Wheaton, a North Region team, is also ranked in the top 4.

I just don't see the committee moving MUC East and UWW North so they could give SJU a number 1 seed and deny Wheaton the same opportunity.

If all four win out, I think it's much more likely that only MUC would move regions.  Just look at the symmetry they would have, provided the Top 4 teams remain the same.
#1-MUC = East
#2-Whitewater = West
#3-UMHB = South
#4-Wheaton = North

I don't disagree that the West would be a brutal region, what with four current teams in the Top 10, but I think the committee is and should be more concerned with making sure the top 4 teams all get #1 seeds.  If they all win out, the committee would have the regional seeding handed to them on a platter.

...not to mention the West currently has Six teams in the top 16.

However, with UW-Lax v. UW-W and UST v. SJU coming up, it probably won't stay that way for the duration of the season.  (Unless the underdogs won both, but even then, at least UST would still choke against Bethel to make a mess of things  ;D)

@ D3Keith (or Pat C.):

Just read Around the Nation and see you side with VOJ on the possible region shake-up.  What do think regarding my hypothesis for Wheaton as North #1, assuming the top 4 all win out?

C'mon now...my Gusties have been bad, but they haven't gone Macalester on us. Where's THAT preview?

GAC's old defensive coordinator will be back in town with Pac Lutheran this weekend. It's the first time GAC will not be 30-point underdogs on homecoming in almost five years. That, my friends, is great scheduling.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Another Friday with no football talk...Ok I'll give it my best shot:

Occidental vs Redlands will probably have the teams wearing long sleeves with 65 degrees forecast for the 7 PM kick-off. It might be tolerable if the afternoon Dodger game is close again. All the towel waving will work much like the propellers in the citrus groves, stirring the air and keeping the chill off.

What's that MIAC looking at?
